The Pioneer Thread

Firstly what alpha build are you using? The latest Alpha (10 at the time of writing this) has a lot of fixes. Also are you using ATI graphics? There has been some reports on the SSC about this. Pirate AI is still being worked on too.

Yes I have the latest Alpha version, as I only downloaded it last week ;-)
I have Nvidia 8800 GTX graphics card.
I know there are police about, because I tried shooting a space station, lol
I did it just to see if there was anybody else out there, but I just don't understand why Saturn has no rings. If it is suppose to have in the game, then it requires investigating further....:)

An Nivdia card? And your using Alpha 10?
This is puzzling, most problems about gas giant rings were centred around ATI drivers :S

There is two things you could do. It would help the devs enormously if you could report the issue either by git hub,

https://github.com/pioneerspacesim/pioneer

or in this thread at the SSC http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=35&t=2080

Try to gather as much info on your system as you can as it can help track the problem down :)

The other thing you could do is wait for Alpha 11 and try that, due out tomorrow ;)

Thar Be Rings!

Hi,
I just wondered why Saturn has no rings around it in pioneer.....

Ok, I have looked into this and now have a solution for you :)

For people (like me :eek: ) who need a full explanation, here is what you do. Just copy/paste the entry below over the entry in Pioneer-alpha11\data\systems\p00p00\00_sol
I used Notepad 2 to amend the entry. On this, it is line 246. You can get Notepad 2 here http://www.flos-freeware.ch/notepad2.html.

Although you could just add the line :seed(13) below the first entry for Saturn. That will work too. Now you can enjoy Saturn as it should be, thanks Gernot! :cool: Always back up the file 00_sol before modifying it just to be safe!

local saturn = CustomSBody:new('Saturn', 'PLANET_GAS_GIANT')
:seed(13)
:radius(f(9,1))
:mass(f(95152,1000))
:temp(134)
:semi_major_axis(f(9582,1000))
:eccentricity(f(557,10000))
:inclination(math.deg2rad(2.485))
:rotation_period(f(4,10))
:axial_tilt(math.fixed.deg2rad(f(2673,100)))

@tvrobyn

Try to gather as much info as you can on the problem and report it at the SSC. There is a thread for this and the devs need to hear about these problems so that they can fix it for future releases. In the meantime try one of the earlier versions and see how you get on :)

Here is a link to the thread http://www.spacesimcentral.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=35&t=1987

Part of the problem is my samsung 505 doesn't have a direct x graphics card.

Yep, that definitely wouldn't help tvrobyn, even my old rig that has an Nvidia 9500GT card can struggle a bit at times with it too, mmmmmm I wonder if you could get it running on an old Xbox? :rolleyes: It does have joystick support you know, but still uses a mouse alot too. Perhaps I could suggest it to the devs if in the future, a Xbox friendly version could be done?

EDIT: The answer is yes................maybe!

ive got the inside track on that "other" xbox we discussed, its being prepped for me personally.im going to find out if i could transfer it over to it. would i need pcsxbox or dosxbox? the old xbox DOES have direct x capability, - directx-box remember?
heres a thing.
Will FFD3D run on it?

Well that is good news! :) As for Dos box I am not sure, I would need to dig mine out and check, but FFE should run on it. Controlling it however might be a bit difficult. It might be possible to setup an alternative config for the Xbox's joypad. With the miggy emulator it was fairly easy to do with Frontier. Maybe you could get the guy to set it up for you? It would save you a bit of time.

Hello.

Fyi: FFED3D -> DirectX
Pioneer -> OpenGL (Not DX)

So probably depending on what shaders it uses.
Pioneer, probably not as I dont see an xbox supporting OpenGL but you never know, I dont know much about that platform.

Remember if Pioneer doesn't run right, turn *off* the shaders.

And if she still won't play ball after that, please log the issue on the issues tracker or pop into the forums at SSC.
Issues tracker: https://github.com/pioneerspacesim/pioneer/issues?direction=desc&page=1&sort=created&state=open

Cheers.

I just tried out Alpha 10 on my net book, which has no graphic card and only 1gb of memory along with an Atom processor.
The game works although it can be a bit slow and everything has to be on the lower settings, so anything better than a net book should be able to run the game.

Language Update For Pioneer

A little pre-release news, Pioneer is getting a German translation. Also the devs are looking for anyone who would like to convert the game into other languages.

Lucky 13?

Hi folks! :)
Pioneer has now reached Alpha 13. Tons and tons of fixes and improvements have been done. The devs really did a massive amount of work for this one. Anyways enough of my ramblings, here is the links.

For details of the new alpha and the download itself have a look here http://pioneerspacesim.net/download

Go get! ;)

Bugs!

Unfortunately, there seems to be a bug related to the save games which prevent them from loading, but I am sure the dev team will have it fixed soon.
