The Planetary landing and planetside missions discussion Thread

Will planetary landings make black holes dangerous?

Only reason I ask is because currently if you fly close to either, you hit "Body exclusion zone hit" or something like that.

Because this will be removed for planets, will it be removed for black holes, and they can now severely damage your ship / throw you to another part of the galaxy?

Thoughts?

everything but airless planets will be the same after the update, including blackholes -_-

Bear in mind that you will still drop out of SC when you get too close to a planet with an atmosphere so I don't see why a black hole would suddenly be allowed.

Even with the exclusion zone, you can get close enough to most black holes prior to drop out to then fly right through them in normal space. This results in some amusing behavior from the lensing effect, but is otherwise entirely harmless. So the biggest risk from most black holes right now is taking damage from the emergency drop if flying too close too fast. Except Sag A. Don't mess around with Sag A.

Probably not as black holes killing ships was "fixed" in response to the whining that the game was to dangerous

I think black holes should crush your ship mercilessly as soon as you cross the Schwarzschild radius.

After all this is not Elite: Wusses.

i want to be sucked into a black hole only to materialise in the Thargoid homeworld......."Cmon on then you alien ba......." crackling from coms....the odd twisted agonising scream from commander moon follows, followed by what sounds like paul daniels going "thats magic!"

Black holes just cooked you like a star does, which didn't make a whole lot of sense without at least an accretion disk to emit radiation. They should be properly hazardous.

Planetary landings, easy, hard or random difficulty

In regards to planetary landings should they be easy with most of the details handled automatically and we the pilot just steering towards a target or should they be difficult with a real chance of crashing, or random and dependant on planetary atmospheric conditions.

The difficulty I'd imagine would be based around the terrain at your chosen landing site and the size of your ship. That's how it's seemed in the streams thus far. I think it's funny they had to fly to 3 different planets just to land the Corvette. :)

Chance of crashing has already been confirmed. But that's likely much like planting your ship into a station wall. You gotta go for it.
Landing is likely similar to the normal procedure on pads - except you have to search for a suitable spot, which has already been demonstrated on stream.
Just deploy your gear and gently descent.
