i dont understand why any commander would want to be a "mule" for any of these text driven boring factions.....
why work to make a certain power come out on top?.....surely we should be making our own factions,crews?......and taking systems for our own,and even renaming them.

Merit formula as described in manual (or any other proposed formula) doesn't work for me.
Here's my numbers:
1st week (didn't have exact numbers for the first week actual merits because of earlier reset and FD awarding merits to account directly): ~2800
1st week carry over: 2569
2nd week: 7434
2nd week carry over: 8720

I think the poll was usefull for Frontier to show that the majority of the players who voted didn´t liked the way PowerPlay is right now.
Improving and changing things for the better is always a good thing and every Beta showed that Frontier used a lot of feedback from the community and listened to us.
This is very essential for the long life of ED and I really wish it runs for the next 10 years.

From my numbers I reverse engineered the formula to be:
this week = last week (earned) + week before (earned)/2 + ?
Based on your numbers:
7434 + (2569/2) = 7434 + 1284 = 8718
Hmm, off by 2. That formula gave exact figures for me. But still, close enough for jazz.

For the 1st to 2nd week there was an exceptionally high carry-over value (I don't remember how much, and I can't find the post explaining this, sorry). The devs made it this way because they realised no one was expecting the power play cycle to end on a Thursday. This may be why.
I think as a casual player you can still benefit a lot from PP, without pledging. Pledging and following the goals of the powers will take a lot of time of course, but a lot of bonuses are there for everyone. Think Li Yong's 15% outfitting bonus, or Lavigny-Duval's 20% bounty bonus, the trade bonuses of various powers etc. Especially if you don't have a lot of time - these bonuses really help with your progression!

powerplay propaganda, just musing
firstly i powerplay because i like the idea i fancy arissa think aisling is cute but went for zamina for business reasons she fits my style of play
but cynically i wonder how many would have joined the alliance if they had a (excuse terminology but im going to say it) fit bird fronting them instead of that guy out of blakes 7 yeah blakey that him lolol ive partly answered this question before i start but not every one thinks that much if i fought for arissa id let her down because i cant shoot straight

ha ha BLAKES 7 WAS A 70S BBC SCI FI DRAMMA it had a federation in it too youd prolly be able to see some on you tube i loved it

I'm pleased to announce a new website that provides tracking for the various metrics powerplay: The Powerplay Report. you can find it at http://www.powerplayreport.com.
The website provides a comparative overview of the powers along with detailed information for each power. I'm planning on updating the data weekly, or as and when FD make changes to the information available.
I welcome any suggestions for additional charts to add, and of course if you find any problems then please drop me a PM or reply to this thread and I'll do what I can to take care of them.
Please note that this doesn't provide per-system metrics as it would take too much time for me to manually gather the data each week.
