PvP The PvP Subforum's Purpose

This one for a start. That's pretty ironic really.
Not really an advice thread, more a discussion on the subforum's purpose.

Reason I'm asking is, I will stay out of advice threads, since I don't feel I'm in a position to give advice. Result is that I wasn't familiar with them. I have been reading 5 or 6 today and what I have noticed is:
- It is true that the people here give good advice and are willing to spent time and effort helping another CMDR.
- I'm not seeing many disruptive posts. This might very well be because I was lucky enough to have read a couple that weren't being disrupted.

Let me ask just straight up, Do Ziggy, Riverside or Globusdiablo have any PVP experience in Elite: Dangerous?

No. I've been lying this whole time.[wacky] /sarcasm

Do you?

Edit: And what does this line of questioning have to do with the topic of this thread? Stop derailing.

Not derailing, Just asking a simple question. I have never even heard of you before. What group do you fly with? I have been actively PVPing for 2 years and have never seen a CMDR Globusdiablo. Do you have a youtube or something we can check?

Reason why I am asking is because if you don't pvp then you don't belong in the PVP subforum. I honestly think if someone doesn't engage in PVP at all and just PVE's, they shouldn't be acting like their opinion of PVP is absolute. Or portray to do so. I don't waltz into the explorer subforum and start giving opinions on FSD jump range and Lightweight Exploration builds because I am not a Explorer! The same should be said about these PVE pilots

I'm not quite sure how to answer. But here goes. How I play my game is actually none of your business. That you for some reason think that I have to live up to some kind of standard set by you is disturbing, and suggests issues I can't get into as this is a game forum.

You are now in "the PvP subforum's Purpose" thread, where those who care to (and that means ANYONE who cares to) can comment on what they consider the purpose of the PvP subforum to be.

Why not create your own thread called "I accuse" where you can call out anyone who you don't believe plays PvP in a manour satisfactory to you? Doesn't this sound like a good idea?

I will not comment on this matter further, but will stick to the topic of the purpose of the PvP subforum.

So I posted one earlier in #126. That has someone talking about how to improve modes, rather than accept that the mode choice is Open and how to survive it.

I think all discussion about modes including PvP is undermined, there is no point to Open Trading, PvE is superior to PvP for affecting the BGS etc etc, should be insta-deleted.

The PvP section is for PvP, we all accept the limitations of Open and the equality of the modes. (or at least we should, best case obviously)

I'm against locking the section or having it as members only, it needs to be able to be posted in by anyone, but when the advice coming in is "play in solo/PG" that should be removed.

No I don't. Which is why you will never see me posting in advice threads, or threads about weapon payouts. Still, if I go by repped posts, in this very thread I have made a contribution which was appreciated by a couple of PvPers. And this is not an isolated occurrence.

Regardless, I do come here and post, since I have had good discussions with a couple of PvPers here and I like discussing stuff. If the general consensus is you guys would rather not have me post here, I'll happily sod off :)

Find me one post I made where I state or even imply this.

Not trying to bash anyone on here. Just needed to hear from the other side of the fence.

No one is anything in ED. You don't chose a career when you start. The moment you fire a scanner you are an explorer. Does not mean you are an expert, but you have done exploration.
The same goes for PvP. As soon as you shoot or get shot at by another player, you are doing PvP. It does not make you an expert on wing tactics or FdL outfitting, but you are still part of PvP.

This is the PvP subforum, not the PvP group member subforum. It's relevant to to all players that use Open.

I'm probably involved in PvP a couple of times a year in ED. Usually they end with me leaving the fight, because I'm in an inferior build. As I can't be bothered to dock, send for a PvP ship and then start looking for my opponent, nothing more happens. I feel this is poor game design for PvP and express my opinion about it, in the relevant subforum.

That's how the forum works, isn't it?

Perfectly understandable. But you do admit that if someone does choose a specific style of gameplay (PVP, Exploration or Mining) that that specific individual may know a thing or two more about said topic than another individual who has not chosen the same path in game?

No worries. I was not offended nor experienced a bashing sensation.

Although you should, as you clearly are not welcome here:

...Reason why I am asking is because if you don't pvp then you don't belong in the PVP subforum...

So to stay on topic, I'll argue that anyone who feels so inclined should feel welcome to contribute to the PvP subforum. PvP or no. If only they:

Absolutely. That's part of the reason to post here. It's where relevant feedback is available.

Ok thats just pure heresy. I hope frontier gonna go CCP way and don`t surrender to carebears

Yo, hold up.

The PvP forum is for everyone, especially PvE bros who want to learn a few things before they jump into PvP. However, I will agree that they are better off just reading, or asking questions sometimes. Keeps things from getting super cluttered with back and forth quote fests... which I am now participating in. GG everybody lol. Oh well, it's not an advice thread or anything, so it's whatever.

Just to be clear: I'm not saying the PvP crowd has absolute knowledge, and everyone's opinion is 100% fact because they PvP, either. Plenty of misinformation out there, especially on other social platforms(Oh, the madness on Facebook), but most of us here tend to know our stuff.

One last thing.

If you see a post that looks like it might only exist to stir the pot, consider overlooking it. Clogging up a thread is not a one sided issue, it takes at least two participants. Remember that.

The PvP side should be as accommodating as possible to anyone who shows some interest in learning the ropes. Hostility or bickering does not win hearts, my dudes.

No Mods are banned from modding the PvP section, we have tiers of moderators i.e. Global, International, Platform etc which precludes some from modding certain areas of the forum but they're not banned.

As Rootsy stated there is no bias on play styles I try to treat each post & poster as fairly as I can and how they play the game does not come into it.

I really couldn't give a flying monkeys how someone plays the game as long as they stick to the forum rules.

But we do seem to keep coming back to these subject on a regular basis for some reason.

of course there's bias in the mod team, let's not paint you guys as pretty perfect angels because you have "tiers", shall we.

I actually really like seeing so many people posting from the PvE side asking questions and contributing. I suspect that Replicant thinks so, too, but posted a bit in frustration and didn't nuance his point like I'm sure he would have upon reflection. I share his frustrations somewhat because this forum has been subjected to a pretty concentrated assault by a few people who's only interest in PvP has been to subvert threads whenever possible, and no help from the curators to keep it straight.

With that said, the best conversations on the entire forum are taking place here, and I think it's the most fun place to hang out, even if not terribly constructive at all times. With a little help from the mods, maybe it will become more constructive in the future.

What Jason said^^^

No they don't, they are solo players.

What I figured.... Nuff said

No they don't, they are solo players.

That's a good description for me, I'm not a team player, although I have friends I've made in the game. I do semi-organised PvP in an FDL with random friendlys when I feel like it (and they agree), I only tend to fight people I can trust (ie friends), My in-game name is different from here, 'Riverside' was taken unfortunately. I don't hide it but I don't make a big deal about giving it out, if anyone wants to know they can put the effort in & read my posts for clues.

I FA-off in combat but I'm not good enough to consistently dock for example, I can used fixed weapons but generally stick to gimballed because it's easier. I use a T-16000FCS controller and I think using kb/m for FA-off with fixed is as weak as menu-logging, it masks the 'true' skill of the pilot (which of course might still be very high). I am self-taught, and believe it's a better way to play the game to work things out for yourself. That way you don't get bored and complain that it's all too easy.

I can also confirm that Globusdiablo is an annoying griefer and someone who has given me good advice and support, and Ziggy is generally as annoying to me as to you but occasionally our opinions align.

I also don't grief if I can avoid it, I'm generally just trying to find solutions to challenging problems, which is one of the reasons why I like this game, and the main reason I post in this forum. Like Ziggy described, I don't give technical advice, but I don't ask for it either.

Also, it doesn't matter, but it is interesting that the 'true PvPer' community is apparently so small that you all know each other. Makes me wonder why FDev would bother to lift a finger at all with such a niche group.
