PvP The PvP Subforum's Purpose

If I look at the first page, the majority of threads are indeed about relevant PvP topics.

The trouble is, the other kind of thread may be occurring less often but gets way more traction because there are opposing sides and controversy which attracts all the lowlifes.

Pretty much. It's used as a dumping ground for threads that the mods want to sweep under the rug, despite them not belonging in this subforum.

The main thing I have against the plethora of complaint threads in here is that the OP's don't bother looking what subforum they're in. This is the PvP subforum, player vs player. If they complain about "getting griefed" or ganked, people here are going to tell them to take responsibility for their own survival and give advice on how to beat the other players in the scenarios they're describing, whether that's by highwaking+surviving or outright beating them in combat. Coming here just to whine about C&P, PvP being bad, open being "empty", and other such drivel should be cracked down on by moderators.

If such threads are started and/or cultivated on here then the moderators should handle it, and if such threads are moved here from other parts of the forum, then that's just bad moderating.

I nominate Rinzler to be the PVP Subforum Moderator

Let's make a start by not accepting complaining threads here. Let's all agree to report such threads to mods for movement elsewhere.

More like a request for proper curation.

More like a portion of the forum trying to control the flow of conversation. Expecting to be handled differently than any other Sub-Forum.

Sub-Forums are divisions of the Forum based on a given subject matter. Not little pieces of territory staked out for the benefit of advocates.

You're just agitating in the hopes of getting the thread locked.

Na, I'm just shedding some light on the subject. I weary of the 'poor put-upon PvPers' shtick that goes on. This thread is intended to discuss "The PvP Subforum's Purpose". My view is the PvP Sub-Forum is to discuss PvP. Not just promote a certain way of addressing the subject, but addressing it in total.

Having PvP positive moderation is just as bad as having PvP negative moderation. (Disclaimer: Don't take that statement as an acknowledgement that any moderation has been PvP negative.) Each subject matter has to take it's praise along with it's detractions. That's just how open forums work.

By acting as if the mods should do their job?

LOL...

Sounds like a direct contradiction to me.
As opposed to giving PVErs a safe haven for off topic whining?
That's how it stands now.

Why should this section have proper curation?

None of the other ones have.

That doesn't mean this forum should be where those threads are sent.
Send the PVE whiners to the exploration forum or something...
Would make as much if not more sense.

You have the opportunity and mechanism to challenge Moderation around here. That's the proper way to control that aspect of the Forums, in general.

There is no contradiction in that statement at all. That Off-Topic haven is safe for your whining too.

If the overall subject of a thread is the Modes, off it goes to the Modes Sub-Forum. If the overall subject of a thread is PvP, off it goes to the PvP Sub-Forum. It's not about the attitude, or the author of a thread, it's about the subject matter that dictates where it should be discussed.

What is this forum's purpose?:

From the top of this sub-forum:

Forum: PvP
Player vs Player discussions go here. Absolutely no witch-hunting, and/or naming and shaming.

As for calls for specific moderation and/or moderators:

Moderator selection is not vote by community. We have a internal means on when it comes to selecting moderators for our forums.

Some of the users that we had on our list got blown out the window due to...
1) moderation history, be it infractions or bans,
2) post content,
3) cannot be trusted,
4) part of a clique of users, having bias.

Which is why I've had a difficult time finding users suitable for the role, especially as a moderator for this forum.

If you have issues with moderation the proper course of action is to contact Brett about it.

Let’s chill everyone.

This thread had me thinking earlier today: what would be good threads to pin here?

Rinzler’s famous video is a no brainer. Was also thinking something to preempt ‘complainer’ threads.

Thoughts?

Perhaps the same thing Alec has done.

https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/404657-Alec-s-best-of-the-forum-(and-elsewhere)-v2

One thread with links to the most informative/fun/useful threads plus general tips & tricks.

The advantage being, it can be maintained by someone you guys deem worthy to speak here, instead of them meddling plebs.

From Bretts post in that recently locked thread.

He would need to find a PVP player that hasn't received infractions or suffered a ban for upsetting a PVE player.

So well... I think that rules everyone who is an actual PVP player out.

Every time I post the git gud Gide it has a 50% chance of being mod wiped because it has a couple naughty words in it.

I think it's a great idea to sticky it, just would have to make sure the mods agree

You cannot challenge a lack of something, and I didn't bring it up.

Please don't change the subject.
I was referring to PVErs whining in here, or expecting their opinions to be taken seriously.
It dilutes the resource for players looking for valid info.
It's just noise.

Do you think that's how it's actually playing out?

I don't.

I suppose in an ideal world this sub would be for advice, build information and the like but like all forums, Frontier's are far from an 'ideal world'.

The kind of things that some are agitating to 'keep off their lawn' in this sub are self inflicted wounds to be honest. If your true desire is to limit this sub to advice and information sharing then steer clear of provocative threads and postings yourself. Let's be honest here, if you are posting using terms like 'carebear', 'forumdad' or 'coward', (and many more besides), you are trying, to a greater or lesser degree, to illicit a response from those you are wishing to keep away from this sub. The same goes for some of the suggestions, if you are suggesting taking areas of the game away from a portion of the playerbase you really shouldn't be surprised when some of those folks ride in here and go 'hold on a bloody minute'.

Of course the insults roll both ways, so again, if someone rolls in here calling 'griefer' or 'psycho' then the post should be reported if it indeed warrants such action, what usually happens instead though is a mudslinging match is formed and those that some think shouldn't post here are almost invited/tempted back in.

As for the pinning of some threads, I think that is a great idea, the problem with many of the more informative videos and the like though is their suitability under current forum rules. Maybe some of the video makers could create 'clean' versions of said videos that would/could be possible to pin here.
