The Route planner discussion thread

How the hell you guys sell something at 3k per ton?, max profit I found is 1.2k per ton, and that is palladium, :( what Im doing wrong here.

you are doing nothing wrong, its just fast ships do trips faster.

My 500 cargo ship is slow, but my profits high. The more trips the more profit. I used to make 6 round trips in my 236 ton clipper, now I do 4 1/2 in my 500 ton T9. which makes more money....

If I can make 500k profit minimum one way and the same back I am happy.

Trade Route Navigation

I see people posting these trade routes online, and I picked up a few to try out...

But the distances between the planets they plot are crazy far (or so it seems). I'm using my route plotter and have maybe a 10LY range or so, but some of these routes require like 10-15 jumps, and sometimes the galaxy map isn't able to connect the dots at all.

It feels like I'm doing something wrong. Either there is a trick to go from begin-point directly to end-point without making a ton of jumps in between, or there is a FSD upgrade I need to buy that will let me go further than 10LY skips.

Short answer:
Buy a better FSD.

Longer answer: The heavier your ship, heavy equipment, more cargo you have in the hold, the shorter your jump range. Buy a better FSD to remedy that.

Also, route calculation in the galaxy map is currently limited to 100 Ly and is painfully slow (both will change in 1.1.) If you have to do 15 jumps, I think you are looking at rare trading, perhaps you should do that when you have (again) a better FSD. And a fuel scoop. And a big cargo hold. Stick to "normal" missions and trading until you have the modules.

Also, the navigation panel has a "fastest" and "economical" route planning. Economical tries to get you there on the least fuel used - and it means many, many small jumps as they have better fuel economy. Fastest gives you the smallest number of jumps.

Edit: and no, long routes are not unusual particularly if doing rares. I think my normal rares route back in the day was 12 jumps in the longest leg - I did 6, refueled, and did 6 more. It's actually not that slow at all - it's supercruising to stations that is slow, jumping from star to star to star is actually pretty quick.

OK, thanks. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something obvious.
Wish there was a way we could avoid stopping at each star and just jump to the endpoint.

Route Planner still inoperable in gallactic core area

I'm currently at MYRIESLY MX-I C10-933 sys in heavy star-populated area and route plotting above 50ly is useless. If I'm trying to plot above 50ly (not to mention 500 or 999ly) FPS drops to 0,4 (!) and calculation fails and map freezes. It's coming to senses again on quitting the map (FPS back to ~80). Well, I've been trying to stay very positive till now but must say it's SO dissapointing to me as I've been waiting particulary for the route planner to improve in 1.1. I know it works fine arround inhabited region, tested it in beta 1,2,3 but didn't someone of FDevs bothered to test it also in denser regions?
Is it just me or some of us explorers can confirm this? I'm also AMD user - maybe it have something to do with this as I know AMD gives them hard time in some cases?
Can someone confirm?

Man I hope some hotfix will resolve this...

Can i Ask ? - Route planning; the long haul.

Hi, ..

I've been playing now for a month or so (Dec 31st) - I have gained most funds from bounty hunting on 'Resource Collection Points' at various systems along the route that have planets with asteroid belts. I mark them in my notepad and move along to cash in on Exploration Data . I have an Adder, with upgraded weapons, Bounty scanner, Auto-repair, Point defenses etc + many internal (jump related) upgrades. So that's me , headed out into the black beyond .

So, Can i Ask :

1] Of those of you who have left the Sector; which sector are you in ? if you dont mind divulging :~}

2] In planning the Long Haul, heading for the end of the Milky Ways 'arms' seems to be an outward spiral without objective, so should i plan to jump the Abyss or circle inward?

3] Are the Name Tags of 1st discoverers applied immediately to Solar Systems or at hotfixes and patches? (how soon can i tell if it's 'mine'!?)

4] When i am Destroyed , do i keep my ship, cash, upgrades, and purchased ship - as long as i have cash to support it - no matter how many times i die?

And Finally, -for now - How far does the Federation reach ? throughout the milky way, a few sectors at least ? - or is that to be discovered ?

Answers or theories even, to all or any one of the above will be very much appreciated , read and digested over another night of Elite riddled dreams(!! :)) )

Many Thanks ,

Cmdr Lenny the Limitless (i know , my RN was taken! )

can answer one Q.... yes you keep your ship and upgrades... just make sure you have enough for the insurance...(right screen status...) you lose cargo and any bounties and missions usually fail if you are destroyed....

Hello. I thought this was the personal ads section.
I see now that I am at the wrong place. Unless "Lenny" is short for "Leonora" or "Len...nifer" or something.

Well, nevermind. I might try to answer a few questions while here:

1. I wouldn't know. My ship AI, Astra, does all the calculations and planning. Also, she determines what trades are better for me. Come to think of it, I don't do much except pay for it all and ... No, that's it. Pay for it all.
2. Again, you'd have to ask the computer. I don't know any of those, Milky Way or Long Haul. I did know a "Tall Paul" once though?
3. Yeah... Ehm, I'd say "perhaps" at this point...?
4. Hah! This I know. Yes, yes. You keep everything. Make sure to always keep insurance money. Never, never spend more 90%. Or of course, you could be frisky about it, risk everything, die a horrible death and lose all. Twice. Like I did. And spend hours giving silly advice to people on a forum that you THOUGHT was a personal ad for the Woman Of Your Dreams!

I am now in Leesti system at the George lucas station. two close resource sites for bounty hunting and its a high tech hub. Ive jumped all the way from liaeden and saw many resource extraction hunting opportunities in between but Lave area seems to be a Dud so far. Have run into PLENTY of Anacondas and Python pirates with 100K bounties at Nav beacons and promptly had my Hiney handed back to me. Might be moving on soon to Imperial or federal systems, Anarchy is too much of a hassle to go around cashing bounties outside of systems. All factions are fairly close by however

1) I have left many sectors, but currently back in human occupied space.
2) You may have trouble jumping the abyss depending on your jump distance and if you can find an available bridge of stars.
4) Yes, but you lose cargo, any data or bounties collected and any faith you have accumulated in your own indestructibility.

The entire human occupied sphere only reaches about 500 LY across, scroll out on the galaxy map with it set to show allegiance and you'll see how pitiful we are.

Thanks guys n gals , ....

@ all who answered the 'death' thing ... thanks , and i guess i'm still working out the 'loan' part, also why we do not keep any Geo data other than that in our heads ....

@ Kirrasdad - that's the sort of info that's very useful to a feral bounty hunter like myself , ... i shall look up your locale as soon as the Hotfix is applied :) --- and to reciprocate: I am currently hotfooting it out of the sector at 11.4ly max in my adder , but have spent time at 2 spots for Top Resource Point Bounty Sniping, the Trella system has only a couple of points and a very local Fed station for cashing in. I had 4 x 150k + bounties from Anacondas , but in greed i lost one whilst trying to stack more small tickets on top in my usual mistake of accidentally hitting a fed ship in the crossfire , this time i didn't manage the leap before i was toasted! - Also the Ananke System has Masses of Bounty (truly!;)).

@ Feldspar Thanks so much for the Zoom out Top Tip of the Day! .. its these seemingly obvious to the idiot type operations that are so missable in this incarnation of Elite when you are so focused on ones own triumphs and overwhelming feelings of smallness! (yet ignoring our own indestructibility as you say) - must use filters more!!

@ Cmdr Franc Shofranco - Nice Coat - & may Astra fulfil all your dreams :~}

again , I thank you ..

All and any Sector info exchanges a v.welcome :)

LtL is FTL !

What happened to my trade route?

Since 1.1 a station that forms part of a very well worn trade route has decided it no longer wants to even stock imperial slaves.
What gives? Is this a change as part of the 1.1 update???

Seems like there's a few trading issues being reported, spotted something similar to yours here already. Mine is that the entire dynamic side has disappeared, the prices don't fluctuate the more you grind them out.

exactly the same thing happened to my station as well. no imp slaves to be found anywhere at all now....

galaxy seed has been slightly changed. many stations are different, gone, moved, changed names, changed commodities, stock, even changing entire economies, and it wouldn't surprise me if some systems had changed allegiance

I don't want to jump the gun here, because this may be one of the million bugs that have escaped the test. But if this an intentional change then I'm gonna get upset pretty darn quick.

We're all working very hard to create our own micro universes out there, but if the rug's going to be constantly pulled from under our feet in the name of diversity and change, then I'm gonna claim my first stake and slam it into the ground that is the Elite Dangerous world of idontknowmybuttfrommyelbow.

Be careful, cause if you speak out against Elite here the as intended, use your imagination, you don't know how to play, your just hating for hating sake, you're SC fanboy aren't you... Crew will pounce all over you and try and make you out to be a fool for noticing any holes in the games.
