The SCB (Shield Cell Bank) Thread

How is there no hope with my suggestion? You can use three charges just as quickly as you can at the moment with my suggestion? With the new mechanics coming into play in V1.5, you may only be able to use ONE charge (ie: Your current SCB only has 1 charge left, even though you've got another (currently turned off) with 3 in)?

Your suggestions is the same thing with a different flavor. Currently if you go into a fight with partially used banks you are at a "disadvantage", you could switch them off and others on before you go into the fight, but it's your choice. With your suggestion the economy is time based, so you end up in the same situation, unless you wait it out. I prefer the first scenario, where I get to decide how to outfit my ship and how to use what I've equipped, rather than the candy crush scenario where I have to wait 10 minutes before I get to play again.

When will you show some nerve and stop pandering to nerfers, FD?I guess never.

We can only hope.

This not a nerf to SCBs, it is a buff to tactical gameplay. If timing your SCBs and heat sinks seems like asking too much in the heat of battle, guess what? Co-pilots are coming soon. ;)

I had high hopes for this game. I have supported FD with what I consider a lot of money. I eagerly awaited it's release. Every update brings less fun than the last. Let's recap. I might have missed some.

:BEGINGRIND
RARES TRADING ... NERF ... LESS FUN
MISSILES ... NERF ... LESS FUN
PYTHON ... NERF ... LESS FUN
CAPITAL SHIPS ... NERF ... LESS FUN
GALAXY MAP DRAW... NERF ... LESS FUN
POWER PLAY ... [DEAD] ... NO FUN
CQC ... [DEAD] ... NO FUN
INTERDICTION ... NERF ... LESS FUN
SLAVE TRADING ... NERF ... LESS FUN
SMUGGLING MISSIONS ... NERF ... LESS FUN
:SOON
SCB ... NERF ... LESS FUN
:CONTINUEGRIND

Every incremental improvement is overshadowed by the reversal of fun someplace else. I barely play now. I spend more time looking at these boards hoping for a miracle than playing.
Each time a advantage is lamented by the fanbois community and nerf'd, more grind and less fun is the result. People want a reward for the time they spend on an activity and adding more grind is not the answer.

The game has become much less of a grind fest and you can pretty much play and do what you enjoy 99% of the time now.

I don't understand why some people are mad with the SCB changes, you still get to keep your precious SCB but probably wont be able to stack them in combat, I imagine you have to regroup before you fire the next one or else die. I know what I am going to be doing Beta servers now, SCB testing.

If they want to counter SCBs, have another module called "weapons capacitor booster" where if you engage it, it gives a giant jolt of power to the weapons system so they both can fire significantly longer (for a limited time) and bleed off heat faster. People want to SCB? Boost your weapons and break their shields before their shields recharge...

And then, after it is added into the game, everyone will see how pointless this entire exercise is and accept that SCBs and boosters should just be removed, entirely.

A slight concern I have had is that depending on the increase in heat generation, this may make SCB's unviable for some hot running ships ( Fdl springs to mind.)

Do you really believe that Frontier reads all those posts from all those forums and then decide the changes they do based on those posts? Really? Has it not occurred to you that Frontier has all the data they want about how things are going in the galaxy and that they would use tangible numbers to make changes as opposed to using random posts from random schmocks on the internet?

Throw in some hull reinforcement testing too. This could be an interesting swing of power towards ships like the FDS and FGS. It could also make the top 3 tier ships much more interesting. When weapon changes are considered too later in 2.0.

You did do a mic drop after this, didn't you?

my thoughts as well.

combat-type ships will suffer from heat build up more then multirole;
and ships like the FDL, that require good power managment will suffer from the SCB reboot timer on top (many builds activate scb when weapons retracted, i.e.)...

EDIT: generally speaking, I'm all in for this change, but I hope they're able to balance it well

Not sure this is going to make that much of a difference to be honest, ships will just high wake out like they have always done.

The buff to hulls is great news though.

Possibly, we'll have to see how it plays out, it may mean that heat susceptible ships (which happen to be fast ships) like the FdL and Clipper (in my limited experience) are going to need to use some of the speed to get a rest from shooting to use an SCB without overheating a little, that or it may just mean you can't chain spam them and using one under load won't be that much worse than now unless your handing out PA shots like candy at a parade, it'll all depend on how much the increase is.

To all the people that always cry about something simple because someone better than you kill you, Thank you for making Elite worse. Every ship as it is has a purpose and they are well balance within its role. Now that SCB are nerf who will put a $400 mil conda in a wing fight when you are gonna be the target and cannot withstand the fire of 4 ships cause of the nerf of the SCB and cannot maneouver. I will hate to see the vultures killing the condas and the phytons simple beacuse they cannot recharge the shields quick enough while she is firing at your six. The SCB already take long enough to take effect to make them worse. Now that everythings changes move on and find something else to complain the next time someone kill you. If you would invest the same time practicing that you do complaining you will think diffrent

You are very welcome.

Welcome to more combat logging that you have ever seen, those who ask for nerf again, please do not cry for less PvP encounter in the future, you deserve it...

note: names will remember for next time when you start nerf crusade from reddit to ED forum don't forget you are 5% of ED community.

I really don't see why SCBs are wanted to get a further nerf... and this is coming from someone who does PvP in a Viper already because flying my Anaconda for PvP is already stupid. I've got ~1bil in my Anaconda, and it is totally useless for PvP, certainly way too risky to fly it, since you are target #1, and it's already the case that SCB cooldown is too long and you will still lose shields, even A7, if you are up against decent fitted pilots.
Heat damage is not negligible in comparison to losing hull. It's a big deal. Heat damage will stop you in your tracks nowadays very quickly, it doesn't take much at all to totally break you down. You can probably damage the rest of your SCBs, have your engines and FSD dead... you will just sit there in your big ship as smaller ships continue to eat you alive.

I like my Anaconda for PvE, but there's no question...little ships rule in every respect for PvP unless you want to lose a lot of money.
I can take on most FDLs and below, and win 50% of the time, in my Viper, which costs me 130k to replace. That's the only ship I bother PvP with, and it's a whole lot of fun.

Nerfing SCBs just continues to devalue the big (annies and pys) ships for any sort of PvP at all. Their only value already is either to support in a wing, or to mindlessly blow up NPCs, what a bore.
I hope this isn't taken as a complaint, but rather an attack at the logic. I actually quite like cheap combat, and will continue to do it either way. A Viper, over 100 times cheaper than, say, an FDL, or hundreds of times cheaper than a Python, is a worthy adversary to both of them. Very backwards. I've killed FDLs, Pythons, and Clippers in my baby Viper about 50% of the time, and now it'll be even easier, while I risk 130k and the bigger ships are risking loss of millions. If anything, this will improve my odds of winning and make this even more absurd.

Making combat death in ED for the larger ships easier to happen doesn't make much sense at all. It's the big ships that benefit most from SCB use, and these big ships also already suck for PvP, they can't chase anyone down, but they can run from a losing battle. That's already fair. The big ships are really the only ones that can make use of popping multiple SCB at a time. I can take on 3 A's at a time in my Anaconda. I am able to evade MOST fights, but a wing of 4 has still killed me in my Anaconda popping 3 A's at a time. It really doesn't take long to remove A7 Shields with rail guns already, shorter time than SCB cooldown.

Now you just made it even more of a risk to fly about in any nice ship. Pretty silly IMO.

Sadly true.

One guy said that SCBs were not crutches, and the other guy replied that an old fart who played the 1984 version needed SCBs. I thought he meant crutches!

Ah .. my bad. Well personally I never liked SCBs but since the NPC patch (1.3 and 1.4) I find I have to use them to survive. NPCs tend to kick my rear, more so with the little ships using them lightning guns (with infinite ammo it feels like )

It will be interesting to see how it pans out all the same during the Beta. I hope people try it in PvP combat (although the game shouldn't be balanced around that IMO) and I will certainly try some PvE. Maybe it will create some more diverse action - people may need to run earlier to toggle their SCBs which will create more interesting combat.

Not so silly since they are buffing armor. 95% of that argument goes out of the window.
