Dropship is not the space combat ship. It is designed to transport marines and would be mainly used on planets (that's how I see it).

Class 7 Shield Generator Location?

Been looking everywhere, including high tech systems. Can't find them. Does anyone have specific port that they've seen them at? Preferably in the Empire as that's where I'm currently at.

Asp with Class 3 shield generator as space trucker

Morning all :)

I'm about to upgrade from a Type 6 to an Asp (I've been using the excellent http://www.edshipyard.com/ tip of the cap to whoever made this) but I plan to set it up initially as a trade lugger to make use of the potential 16tn extra cargo space over my Type 6. To do this I'd have to down grade from a Class 5 to Class 3 shield generator, will this actually work? I'm not planning on getting in any aggro with it, basically just want some light shielding to protect me from rushed landings or the odd brushing against the docking bay door. Will a class 3 shield actually work on an Asp or is the Asp too big? To run at 120tn cargo capacity will I basically have to run sans shields?

My plan is to use the extra space to earn some cash to upgrade it to a bit of an all rounder beast, obviously then I'll go back to a class 5 or 6 shield unit.

Yes class 3 shields will work. I do this with my ASP and it is fine. The class 3 (A) shields have helped me survive minor collisions and even the odd NPC interdiction without gettin hull damage. Just be advised that the Class 3 A shields are weaker than the Cobra's best shields (see http://i.imgur.com/omzijnI.png ) , so in a real fight you would be at a severe disadvantage.

This is pretty much how I roll. The shield is only there to absorb docking mistakes, and light pirate activity. But if you get anything Cobra sized and up, run!

It will work. But don't expect much protection from this small shield.

The Elite Shipyard does not display shield generators which you cannot mount on the ship.
If you check the higher class compartment you will see that you can install shield generator ranging from class 5 to class 3.

Edit: Ninja'd :)

Thanks. I don't plan on getting in much of a fight, i usually evade interdictions when I'm in a trading set up. I have a combat equipped Viper for pew-pew parked at one end of my trader run, I'm just playing both styles as I want a very well equipped Asp as my general all rounder ship so I need plenty of credits as the Asp's options list is rather pricey!

Longer term I've very much got my eye on a Vulture which I predict will need Asp-like levels of investment before we even start on those C3 hardpoints! :)

Class 3 actually still gives more raw shield than a Cobra shield still. While your ship is bigger, it is plenty for lesser pirates along with the bigger power distributor and more slots.

Basically the same for me. If that is your mindset the Class3 shields will serve you well during grind..erm.. trading.... until you can afford to fully outfit your ASP. Just maybe stay away from griefer infested areas, I imagine a couple of dumbfires would destroy the trading outfit in milliseconds :)

I use a D3 shield on my ASP and all works well. If you got some weapons you can easily defend yourself against harmless-competent npcs (had no problems against a clipper). But if you meet a master or elite NPC in an eagle and above you should either know exactly what to do or run. They can strip weak shields in a few seconds.

I've been figuring this out after trading from Type6 to Asp last night. I'm running a class 3 shield and you really don't want a pirate to get through it - happened last night and was about 38,000Cr worth of hull damage repair ( was down to about 84%) but the extra 32t of cargo will allow you to keep trading at more of a profit with those palladium runs. Was quite surprised at the hull bulkhead upgrade costs, so need to do a lot of trucking to get that sorted :)

I went up against a Cobra with my A3 shields on the ASP. Barely got some Hull damage mainly because I was too sleepy to kill him fast...

SCB in different fire groups = dedicated button fire all on once
SCB in "enable/disable" in modules = dedicated button fire only "enable" SCB

But: I have SCB in different fire groups and mapped for "second fire". For me? Ideal solution :D
