Single Player / Multiplayer

Hi,

I was wondering if there are any plans to merge single player with multiplayer?

For example our current multiplayer profile (ship, credits) can this be used in single player?

Will we be able to switch between single player and multiplayer but using the assests we obtain in both?

Or will single player be completely seperate and anything earnt only applies to single player mode?

There will single player offline; this will be completely separate from the online game...There will be Single Player:Online, this is just a single person private group and hence will part of the multiplayer reality with assets shared across all instances of the multiplayer reality.

Now, if you don't agree with the grouping mechanics and the sharing of assets across all instances of the multiplayer reality....go and find one of the existing threads. You will find people both to and for; it gets heated. Just remember to be polite, see the other person's point of view and don't expect them to have a 'Road to Damascus' moment...it aint happening!!

Thanks for the response.

I wasn't voicing an opinion, just asking the question really.
However I was actually hoping that assets ARE shared, so judging by what you said it sounds like SinglePlayer:Multiplayer is the option I'm looking for.

Going between full Multi Player and SinglePlayer:Multiplayer whenever I feel like it, and sharing the assets between those 2 realms is what I wanted / was hoping for.

Basically you can turn this Massively Multiplayer Online Space Opera Epic (MMOSOE) into a Massively Singleplayer Online Space Opera Epic (MSOSOE) at the push of a button.

I think it will be able to use.

Does that mean everything that is available to multi-player and/or the online single version, will be available to the offline version of single player? Of course I know anything that is specific to interaction between human players won't be there, but any other limitations?

The Galaxy will be stagnant, basically the online modes will continue to change and evolve due to events, lets say an independent Frontier system in between Empire and Federal space suddenly finds with an abundance of rare ore, you can bet both the Empire and the Federation will be trying to do everything they can (perhaps short of all out war) to secure the system in their name.

If one faction wins and secures control of the system it will likely change allegiance to one or the other faction, therefore the system will now be lets say, an Empire world.

In offline single player, the world will never change from its original state as it was seeded. this was just one example, I think unexplored could go to explored, Frontier to being part of faction, or maybe even a strong independent world, but only in the online version.

Hope that made sense.

I think I understand, but not sure:)

So whatever allegiance a system has at the start of the game will remain the same throughout a single player game?

I plan to mostly play single player so that is why I am so interested in the single player experience and hoping it contains enough material to satisfy someone who will only play this way.

Single player online:

As far as I understand it, this will be very similar to going invisible on an Instant Messenger chat system. You'll see friends come and go, but they won't see you and you're only going to play by yourself with NPCS.

Changes to the galaxy will still be shared, so in my example any allegiance changes will still be noticed in this mode.

Single player offline:

Will work without an Internet connection (barring I think an initial authentication), just like pulling cord, your galaxy will exist in a stagnant state. Not sure how NPC's will be generated, but either way any changes to the galaxy will not be shared as there will be no way for it to do so.

So, in this mode any allegiance changes as per my example will not be noticed nor change as it simply won't be able to get this data.

It's probably because the SP missions were created first and haven't been added to for a while.

But come the 29th, you'll be able to dock.

Not long guys. :D

The way I understand it, Standard Beta will feature single player with everything that is currently in multiplayer.

Standard beta just builds on what has been seen before so in alpha 1 you had single player, alpha 2 it was single player plus multiplayer area etc so in standard beta you will get everything you have seen in premium beta plus whatever extras FD decide like more systems etc (if you remember PB got the single player scenarios first to practice piloting which is the same for SB).
So short answer, yes but with fewer bugs and various improvements etc
