I cannot comprehend what I'm saying.

There, I fixed that for you.

Just point me to where you explained why anyone should be required to live up to your ideals. Show me where you gave a direct answer as to why the whole should have to succumb to the will of the few. I'm sure you cannot.

This thread needs renaming to Open vs Everyone else. Ive been playing Mobius all week since I joined. Its nice seeing CMDRs without having to worry about them. Instead I can be sociable. To my mind Group play is the essence of what this game is about. PVP players assume that every CMDR is a target or wants to be a target. They do not. Some do yes but not all. The reason we are all in group or solo is that we just don't like PVP and after encountering open and a minority of its inhabitants have decided that they are not fit to share the same galaxy and should be isolated in the open naughty step. When you attack and grief people don't be surprised when you are suddenly all alone in your galaxy surrounded by equally minded people.

If I want PvP I play BF4 and Im v good at it so combat is not something I am entirely afraid of. I have an excellent collection of dog tags. This is a different kind of game. I play it to dream.

I wouldn't go that far.. Open only vs everyone else.

I don't know, I go to bed for all of 5 hours and look at what happens.
We have, just 1 post apart open advocates claiming open is a wasteland while another mockingly states open has more players and Mobius is a farce.

Is open busy or not?
Can we please figure out this one thing as I'm getting dizzy over open having more risk due to the players that don't play it! :eek:

@ Iian. Dude, "Handbaggery dial" - LOL, that is an amazing expression - this thread needs renaming to "The Solo vs Open vs Groups Thread - The Handbaggery Files" :D
Also, someone on the naughty step?? I'm impressed, that takes some effort in this thread :p

I'm still confused ;)

I think FD are mainly appealing to Xbox players there. PC players tend to be more fickle and want PvP with a purpose in my personal experience. I also believe Xbox players will eventually want more purpose to their PvP too.

World of Tanks / Warships / Warplanes
Robocraft
Battlefield Series
Call of Duty Series
Planetside Series

Shall I go on?
All PvP without much of a purpose;

pew pew, buy something new;
pew pew pew, buy something new;
pew pew pew pew, buy something new

And so on until you're at nothing left to buy and just pew pew for the sake of pew pew.

The "purpose" is to entertain those who like it, for as long as they want to be entertained by it (and get them to spend money for those with in game shops).
I've played all but the COD range of games, they are great for killing time and taking my mind off whatever I've been doing all day.

Yeah, because in that arena they cant think: "woah! I *d him!! He lost his 10m cr insurance and cargo woaaaaahhhhh"

This is the thing that messes with the whole "buff open due to risk" argument, CQC has absolutely no risk and you can earn cash to buy an A rated Anaconda for Open mode.
If I get killed in Solo, I have insurance to pay out, but if I get killed in CQC it does not cost me a penny and I can go on to earn more cash to spend elsewhere.

So I can grind out cash in CQC, buy an Anaconda in Open out of that cash and go on a player killing spree with it - which is fine apparently, due to no complaints about it here.
But what I earn in Solo or in Groups must be locked out of Open as it's not fair due to less risk??????????????????

I can actually feel the resentment through my monitor.
I'm not allowed fun my way (PvE) but their way (PvP) can have a second even less risky mode and that's fine, no problems there.

we don't know what the rewards will be like in cqc. What if it takes 2000 hours to get even a base anaconda by doing cqc alone? That'd be more than 20x longer than it would take in solo. Even with the no risk it wouldn't be worth it for that little reward.

Judging by FDs history of profession balance it won't be worth it over just grinding a trade route or res in solo.

If the profits are insane however, I'll be the first to say it needs balancing.

That may be true, but it could go a long way to satisfying those on the Open-only side. As an Ironman mode hasn't been described yet, it's scope could be adjusted to be more satisfying. Not every call has been as draconian as you make out.

An ironman mode has been described, though not implemented. As described, it would not satisfy open-only advocates, since it would allow the same mode switching we have now. The only difference would be the matchmaking engine would only match you with others who chose ironman mode.
I think it hasn't been implemented yet because it would make open seam even more of a wasteland, since ironman would only see ironman, and non-ironman wouldn't see the ironman players.

At a guess, to be a "valid career path" - it will need to pay more than a smuggler / scavenger but less than a Trader or RES grinder.
But even if it is the lowest paid profession in game, it is still at no cost or risk to those taking part with a reward useable in Open.

And you say something is not worth the effort put it, but the answer to the risk/reward argument applies here as well, for you it may not be worth it.
But to those who want arena pew pew, they won't notice the cash while they are having fun with pew pew, until it is time to spend it.
At which point they could have accumulated quite the sum - quite the bonus for an explorer out in the black with nothing else to do.

And lets face it, nothing beats trading - I feel there are too many traders working at FD ;)

In relation to the modes however, it is another mode being added - so people in this topic are screaming for 1 mode to rule them all and FD go and add another.
Personally I'd feel a little insulted, but that is just me I suppose.

Speaking as a mode switcher, I am looking forward to CQC - though more out of curiosity, to see how much like World of Warplanes it is ;)

I think nothing beats trading because fd got a perfect balance with this profession. What need a buff are the other game modes (mining, combat, etc) because they dont sacle with your ship (while trading does).

But this has nothing to do with solo/open modes.

And i wonder: why should be any risk? This is a game, isnt it? Perhaps a little risk (not loosing hours of your gameplay), but its true that traders who play in open are full exposed to griefers, who only purpose is to f*k traders (it seems).

Not just traders.

Explorers get it as well, as they were more likely to be unarmed - someone went to Sag A* in a combat ship and start ganking anyone who turned up.
For some people, months of work was lost.

You must admit though, the player who did that does deserve a little bit of respect for the sheer effort put into that endeavor.
I mean, really, try taking a fully equipped gank setup ship anywhere - and you'll soon see, it must have took ages to get it out there.
That is some serious dedication to "griefing" others there. Even made Galnet if I recall correctly.

(I put griefing in quotes, as technically it actually isn't griefing and allowable in game... it's not a nice thing to do, but it is not griefing)
