I wonder how many of the people who cry "griefers everywhere in open" actually played a single minute in open...

If it weren't for the npcs, one could play in open in a shieldless and weaponless sidewinder for months before being killed a single time by another player.

Yet everyday someone repeats the fabled "griefers everywhere"...

Ya that would be funny...and we would likely be killed by another Sidewinder or "griefed" by someone in a Cobra. Man..that would be rough.

Or crashed into the mail-slot and reported the station to FD as a cheating griefer.

I need to modify my previous statement if we include death by station.....about 40-50% of my deaths account for this and griefers are literally in every system that is inhabited...I mean...when my BAC is as high as it is sometimes the mail slot should be bigger or FD should have at least given me a BAC module doesn't let my ship leave the pad.

I mean something...I shouldn't ever have to take responsibility for my ship blowing up...right!?

I have zero interest in solo play. I spent the last 30 years playing solo space games. I'm tired of AI. I want to play versus people. Unfortunately, open has been pretty dead every time I log into the game for the last few weeks so... I hardly play any more. It makes me sad because this game is great. :(

I think there is seriously something screwed up with instancing these days.

HAHA this is priceless. Yet sadly its the truth about everyone who makes these claims. People just aren't happy unless the game plays itself these days. (auto aim in GTA, Assisted steering / braking in forza) like get real

Yep. And I know it frustrates you, but we have the right to not care about PvP. Which means that we don't have to participate in it. If there was no Solo/Mobius, I wouldn't be there in open for you to gank. I'd be playing SOSE, STO, any of a large number of other games I've got. I like this one, but not enough to play the victim for the entertainment of bands of roving cyber-bullies.

+2

(One for the post, one for SOSE. Good choice!)

Ironman Mode, should it ever turn up - would be voluntary self locking into a special mode that is still on the current BGS.
Most of the suggestions made on this topic are far from voluntary and normally end up with human traders being cannon fodder.

Like many of the things mentioned by FD I hope we get Ironman mode too, but I would want the 3 saves they mentioned first.

Ironman is the one thing I would start a new CMDR for, no friday night playing of that alt :)

That post hits so many nails on so many heads you could use it to build a shed. The disconnect between David Braben's pre-launch speeches about what the game should be and how antisocial behaviour would be moderated, and the ridiculous free-for-all we got in December 2014, was staggering. Some of us warned FD that the vision was perhaps a touch naive, and that such controls would be difficult to implement, but we at least expected them to try. In the end they did nothing except fire-fight the emerging exploits one at a time with ridiculous gameplay tweaks, damaging the game for other players in the process and ensuring that the previously dismissed cries of "everyone will flee to Solo or Group" became an eventual self-fulfilling prophecy. Very disappointing.

I should also have added that they kept the 'flashing blue light' rather than the transponder more players preferred (in polls), so that CMDRs are still selectively attacked by gankers, so called PVPers and pretend pirates. Pretend pirates because they also neglected to add the proposed 'proper piracy', complete with rankings, formal stand and deliver from PCs and NPCs, and so on. So given the lack of consequences for murder, only a minority of pirates role played piracy 'properly', and the others just attacked on sight.

A very obvious, predictable (and predicted by many) self fulfilling prophecy.

I'm gonna play Open drunk I think.
See how that goes....

Open has always been pretty lively for me. I arrive at stations and always see a couple commanders there in most inhabited systems. Always say hi and ask how people are doing. I was in SC earlier today and saw 5 commanders in my instance. People are definitely there.

I wouldn't say that it is dead. I would say that some people (including myself) are becoming disillusioned with open play and are instead playing in solo mode.
This could be due to.....

1 - Cheating. Some players use the ED cheat tool & hacked xml script.
2 - Mechanics. If you are a single player you have got no chance against a wing.
3 - Other reasons maybe.

I am just here to give you negative waves. That is all.

I'm sorry but I'm lost and confused.

In one thread, open players want more rewards because open is so risky due to players,
but in this thread open is dead and no one is playing it.

What???

It clearly cannot be both - so what one is it, empty of players or overly risky because of players ?

Why am I thinking Immovable object Vs Unstoppable force ?

Open is inherently more risky due to the presence, regardless of how rare, of ganking players. Because of this additional risk, without additional reward, more and more people are moving to solo/group play and abandoning Open play. Open play is losing population (the reason to play open) because of this.

It's not Immovable Object vs. Unstoppable Force. It's Cause and Effect.

I really don't know but it's the kinda thing a Space Banana will look at because we study you Humans.
I've done two runs with no noticeable interaction so it's been cool so far.
I have seen two Humans, friendlies so some of it is working, one even communicated so yeah, cool enough.
2 runs is pretty minimal in a game this size so I will continue.
This is my first time.

I play open all the time. I see plenty of folks and never get "griefed" as some call it. I get interdicted.

A fight ensues, fun is had, ships implode, credits are lost. That's kind of the point of open.

If people want to play in solo or groups that's absolutely fine. There are still plenty of folks in open, you just can't always expect 10 people to appear in some backwater system.

exactly what i think, even me who was 100% in open, i'm now 100% in private group

this is a true problem that will eventually needs frontier's attention

I admit I would like multiple saves, mainly because while I love exploring, I can't just do it days on end. I'd like to have a little variety which you really can't do if you are out in deep space. I have great respect for those who can just explore for weeks on end.
