I've just found what I'd like to put forward as the official theme song for this thread;

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pmUKmW4BYXM

Providing others agree, I think this needs adding to all S.O.G. Megathreads in their opening posts.

:D

ROFL, you have got my vote.

I actually think it should play every time you enter the thread. It should be like the "I agree" box on an EULA lol.

Can we get a Cody version, maybe the Cody dubstep remix version?

Ps how are you doing with the SOG support group?

!!!

But....

!!!

Dude.....

!!!

???

What the ???

It's the opening section of the Wall of Information !!!

I apologise , I have read the full wall several times, and I believe I looked at every link, I will have to blame old age and poor memory.

After ten minutes on the naughty step I will make a note to reread the great wall, it used to be easy, now it is more like war & peace lol, those devs giving us more info, what's the world coming to.

Oh yeah... a new word for the list: cancerous! That's got class - oodles of it!

"Avoid"? That's what the problem is?! And I thought I was being pedantic.

What's the official, non-offensive, word to use then? Block? Bar? Prevent? Cut off?

Surely a reasonable person could deduce from the context of my comments that I was not trying to be offensive? For clarity, in my previous comments, "avoid" = "choose not to encounter in the current gaming session for whatever reason(s) they choose without the need to justify said reason(s) to anyone else."

Why does there have to be a word? There are a myriad of reasons why people play in solo, why do some people have to view solo as not a mode of gameplay but as mechanic to "avoid, hide, undermine, or other insult/accusation" open? That speaks volumes on the Open player's mindset instead of the Solo player.

I will admit.. I am a broken person. Many things I found enjoyable in my youth I can't do anymore. I used to enjoy FPS games, now only if it is co-op or single player. I avoid Open like the plague because I cannot take the chance of PVP. I used to play EVE avidly, yet no matter how I tried I could not avoid PVP and in the end I lost it.. It has taken years to play another space sim. Some games I can disassociate.. sadly most times I can't.. I learned that with Battlefield Bad Company 2. I played with friends and made it a couple days before I started having issues.. I don't want to be in the hospital again. For me it is a mental issue so yes I have service connected mental illness. I play Mobius because I do like social interaction yet some have even invaded there to laugh and pvp people. They don't care that if I had been their target that their actions could put me in a mental hospital, all they care about is their domination of others even if it is against the rules of the group.

I have always tried to keep things fair for PVPers, yet it is PVPers who have not been reciprocal. Some feel that because I cannot play in Open that I shouldn't have the right to actually enjoy the game and contribute. I should be shadowbanned, penalized, forced into Open, unable to mode switch or other actions that would force me into a literal second class citizen status within the game. Because despite all the Dev's had said or done, to some Open is the real game and deserves special treatment and the rest of us are almost playing the game only by their sufferance.

Some claim that I am aggressive and hostile, I laugh at this because I'm not the one trying to penalize others for not playing a certain way. To me that is aggressive and hostile.

I'm thinking the Mods don't want to bring us new friends to play with :(
We'll be gentle Mods, honest!

After all, they are the ones who want EVERYONE all lumped together, no exceptions.
So lump them together, with us, in this very nice and comfy thread.

I've got just the welcoming post for them.....

Oh I hope they merge rather than close, I need something to read on the bus tomorrow, and surely it is better to indoctrinate the OP into the re-education program, and not risk recurrences.

We also work for free ;):p:D

Is there an invisible wall that prevents XBox threads being merged into this section? If so, we'll have to decamp to the XBox forum!

I don't know, it must be like the BGS - we know they are there, but cannot play with them properly.

Well, something about a mountain and it not coming to me, bla bla, inspirational rubbish quote by a lama or nelson or someone....

/off to post wall in XB1 S.O.G. Thread

There certainly seems to be something preventing a merge. Not to worry though, it seems the xbox crowd are quite rabidly pro Solo, at least from the posts I saw...

{Sir Richard of Rolling}

My wife thinks he is lip syncing, as that isn't the voice of a scrawny white guy.

Go figure :p

This is certainly not what anyone back then thought he looked like if you heard the song first. It's a Barry White's voice coming out of a Howdy Doody marionette kind of dissonance.

This is from another thread that is in danger of getting merged even though it started on the subject of Horizons and balancing. I thought it a worthy addition to the discussion.

And FD's response to those complaints and whines has been absolutely deafening in it's absence. This game was supposed to have an Offline mode, they didn't go that way so they gave us Solo instead, so you could avoid the gankers and griefers and still play the full game.

I happen to be a PvP gamer, Elite Dangerous and the Witcher games are the only non-PvP games I've bought in a very long time. I did NOT get Elite Dangerous for the PvP, I researched the game before I got it so I knew what I was getting, after all, it's been a long time since I played the original and I wanted to see what was changed, beyond the graphics of course, with the actual game. And what I found was...
NOTHING was changed from that original single player game, they simply made it an online game instead of offline. PvP is NOT prohibited, but that's the extent of the PvP design in Elite Dangerous. Failure to see that or understand that is not MY problem nor is it FD's problem. FD has stated themselves, PvP should be a rare and MEANINGFUL thing, it's not mean to happen a lot or even be somewhat commonplace.

Look at the ship designs, the total lack of lateral choices in ships unless you simply want to go from combat to utility, all upgrades are vertical upgrades, you need to get a BIGGER ship to get a better ship. We don't have multiple ships per size that are combat oriented with slight differences in speed/agility/armor/shields/weapons. The only options laterally are combat or utility, guns or cargo, that's it. You want better combat options or utility options, you have to go UP in ship size, that's the only possible option. This is a PvE design basis, very common in single player games, like all the previous Elite games were, you also see it in purely PvE MMOs, upgrades are vertical, lateral options are few or nonexistent.

FD decided that if you play in Open or Group, PvP is NOT prohibited, that's it, that's the beginning and end of their PvP design choices, it's NOT prohibited. The game isn't balanced around PvP, it doesn't cater to PvP from it's weapon and ship choices to the networking used, nor are there any titles, awards or credits paid out for PvP combat, matter of fact, you usually get PUNISHED for engaging in PvP unless your target has a bounty on their head before you fire on them. We're also supposed to have the law and order system from the previous Elite games, and that would make PvP anywhere but Low security or Anarchy systems a very bad thing to engage in unless the target is wanted in that system, otherwise, system authority in Elite tends to deal with all breakers of the law with a very simple method - destruction of the law breaker.

Sorry, no, Elite Dangerous wasn't design for or around PvP, it's simply not prohibited, this is a single player game that we play online, we CAN play with others if we so desire, but that's optional. All the game design decisions clearly reflect this as well, people ignoring them, that's their problem. CQC is FD's only catering to the PvP crowd, and even it suffers from the general total lack of PvP consideration in the basic core design. We have the Condor, Sidewinder and Eagle in CQC currently, 2 combat ships and 1 general purpose ship, guess which ships do better overall? The ships aren't equal and it shows, but there's artificial balancing taking place so it's still fun to play CQC, the imbalance is there, but it's still fun despite that...or maybe because of it...I'm not sure yet, it is fun though.

And I'm not salty or a carebear, I'm a PvP gamer, I've been engaged by other players more than a few times and won every encounter in Elite so far, I've not enjoyed most of them in spite of winning them however, as this game isn't set up for PvP and it's usually a very one sided encounter. The so called 'PvP gamers' in Elite are..well..lets just say, my opinion of them, not favorable, as someone who's done PvP gaming online for 20 years and even made money doing it, I can't even post what I think of those folks. CQC, as I said, different story, fun, imbalanced but fun. Main game, if you are a 'PvP gamer', well...even Hello Kitty Online is a bit much for some folks I understand.

How on Earth could open play put you in a mental hospital? I don't understand... it is a videogame...
