Before I left the bubble for exploring some months ago I was trading on a 4 stop trading route to get the money for the exploration equipment. This route was exclusively between wealthy high populated stations, so I could do this trade run in my 80t cargo ASP the whole day long without changing the prices. No changing prices = no altering revenues of other traders = no PvP even in this regard.
I could have looked for a trade route with more revenue - maybe by including stations with less supplies and thus possibly greater margins (for a short period of time) - but I was not in a hurry. I'm playing a game to relax and have some fun. Some may find this "space trucking" in solo boring, I found it enjoyable - and jumping from system to system and detail scanning any celestial body my scanner detects when honking is much to my liking as well. I don't want to be better than anyone else (how is being good at playing Elite defined, anyway?), I don't have to achieve anything - I just want to build my little castles in the sand.
Please show me where I look down on pve? I spent several hours last night farming conflict areas because I want a vulture. I have never said anything other than I don't think you should get your very own server.

So you are telling me that it makes a difference because you don't know "who" beat you to it? You still end up with a cargo hold full of lower value commodity and a loss of the last two hours..

There are no discrete servers for the different modes - the three game modes are simply different settings on the game's matchmaking system (with respect to which players you can meet). This means that no additional servers would be required to implement an Open-PvE mode.
If you want to make modifications to how the core mechanics of the game work, there would be a high likelihood that you would need a separate server or game mode selection from the launcher.

Creating rules where players were to be kicked from the group automatically on attacking / destroying another player (and the attacked / destroyed player was fully reimbursed rather than face an insurance screen) does not (on the surface) seem so hard. We already have a number of Private Groups that is only limited by the number of players that we have (we can each create one). Of course there would need to be another game mode selection on the launcher - that would be a trivial change.
Got it. I thought the push was for some sort of magic shields or something of the sorts. The autokick function .... I do have to tell you... Would do nothing to help. You would see nothing but throwaway commanders in suicide sidewinders. It would do nothing but further the gap between play styles.

If the mode restriction was linked to a game account, it would be rather expensive for those engaging in such practices.
.... and the play styles only grudgingly co-exist in Open due to there being no official alternative (and the fact that Private Groups are not advertised in the launcher).

How about you look at your own posts.. especially when you referred to PVE and PVErs as "Special Needs" and "anti-content" ANd it is funny how when someone has their own server they don't like others getting their own as well.. rather selfish. I was willing to believe your "explanation" of how you use carebear, yet after your newer insults realized that you were just blowing smoke up people's pant legs and the intent was there all along.
So spare me the "I'm just a player" You have made your intentions in the thread loud and clear, PVP and requested PVP is good, PVE and anything requested towards PVE is and anti-content and unnecessary as the game is as good "As it is".
You really need to knock off the personal attachment to being insulted. Special needs didn't refer to the type you are insinuating. It's a special need for you to not be able to be shot, so the legit point stands. I don't have my own server... WE have A server to be played how the game was designed. You want to be special and somehow translate this into me being an ass. Stop trying to smack yourself in the face with my posts, brother.

It was a poor choice of phrase as it has a specific meaning other than the one that you used it for.
An Open-PvE mode would not make players immune to being shot at - there are plenty of NPCs after all.
Is the desire, of some players, not to be shot at by other players any more or less reasonable than the desire, of some players, to have fun at another players expense?

Elite uses much more than one server, and they don't work in ways completely intuitive to many people used to "online gaming".
There is no fully-client-independent arbitrator. Each player hosts their own session. Sessions are joined with other players into instances. Instances are controlled by islands, which again are player hosted and use a fall-back routine to create new islands in case the original owner goes offline or beyond island ranges for whatever reason.
FD's servers are usually contacted only in case of transactions (buy/sell/explore etc), or events (hyperspace, killed etc) but they do not serve player interactions at all, nor do they arbitrate them. Basically, the servers are backend stuff they players normally never need to concern themselves with. Players need only concern themselves with the other players in their instance, and hope that their actions or proximity don't cause the instance to do anything unpleasant, or completely saturate the island owners connection so that it throws a fit and dumps everyone out.

Yes and no. Yes, Private Groups can provide a PvE mode for players - if they can find out about them. No, there is no PvE analog to the existing Open mode.
FOr one thing, I am not making it out towards me... when you insult you do so against every PVEr. And being an American you are well aware of what "special needs" means, to insinuate that you don't and you meant something else is purse asinine..
The game is advertised "Play your way" and you are telling me that the ability not to get shot while playing with others does not fall into the category whatsoever and that it and those who want to play that way are somehow "special"?
WE don't have a server.. those who enjoy PVP and PVP actions like you have a server, those who do not like PVP do not and have to create their own.. which sometimes gets invaded by those who feel that everyone should be subject to pvp..
Where is my PvE Multiplayer mode ?

Because the 2 multiplayer modes there, are both PvP enabled.

You'll have peeps screaming that such a mode would obliterate Open to such a degree that they'd have nobody to shoot at, that the game is empty and meaningless, and that Elite will die because "l33t Pew-Pew Cru" can't find enough baby seals.
Hmmnn, I have to disagree on your first point... Fair, would be for all entering the game to have the chance to make an informed choice with that option in the start menu. As it stands at present, and as I pointed out, new players don't have that information (as you well know).
Secondly, I do hope you weren't making an insult with your comment "no special needs". You should have added "In my opinion", as you definitely don't speak for everyone.. My wife teaches these children, so if you did make that reference deliberately, shame on you. I have my own personal reasons for being offended when that term comes up as a flippant remark in speech.
