Might as well get this in early;

<snip>

Happy Birthday, hope you & your young-un had a great day.

Thanks for the tech info & Roybe too, you both confirmed what I thought, sure I had read it before somewhere on the forum before.

Page 666 on the default layout....

I did predict somewhere around the halfway mark this thread would end on 666 (someone did say this forum would only support 10k posts, it wasn't a guess, it was a comment I made around post 5k), apparently some sod keeps posting walls of text and messed it up for everyone :D.

If it had ended on 666 we could call it the devil thread & used it as a new meme to abuse each other, you have proved why we cant have nice things, with the overuse of facts, a couple less dev quotes and it would have all been fine!

PS WTH, I went to eat my dinner & 10 pages appeared, I can't believe after reading every post in the previous thread you went and started without me :(:).

no mercy ;)

This still doesn't answer why anyone should trade.
They can go BH... or exploring.
Or they could go terrorist and chase away the few remaining traders...

They should trade for the same reason they do anything, because they want to. I was just offering that traders aren't entirely powerless in this equation. They can "evolve" and bite the predator back.

I love it how nobody actually adressed my issue of invalidating my game play because I'm not as skilled as I once was...but still paid for a game I like, therefore my play should be just as valid as theirs.

Why should players playing at a higher skill level earn less reward because of trying to make things equal for the lower skilled players?

I'm quite happy for you to play in solo or group and we both understand there's a big skill gap in the game. It's the equivalent of saying that Sunday morning football players should be paid the same as premiership players because they both want to enjoy the same game and shouldn't be penalized for their age or lack of skill.

I used to love trading even without the pirating. My enjoyment of it was killed with wings where everyone was using the beacon exploit so it felt like I was working my ass off for nothing. I then switched to piracy. I enjoyed all the professions except mining.

That's the point...
They trade because they want to... without interruption.
They don't want to grow teeth, they dont want to bite back, they wont "evolve".
As much as you want them to... they don't enjoy it.
Sure... they COULD do to your likings, but they just won't.

People with a pure "trader" mindset will not do what you want them to do.
Never. As much as you want them to they won't.
You can't force them into it.
It will not happen.
Never.

Clear enough?

Well that's not offered, even in solo. Npcs interrupt you same as open players do.

on that one we can agree.
but we both know what i'm talking about.
getting interrupted just because you're a player.

by the way... i havent been interdicted by NPC for almost three weeks now....
maybe something is broken.

Some obviously and they'll be staying in group or solo. If you're trading in open you have to move out of the trade ships to multirole to stay protected.

even though i'm playing solo, i'm not trading in kamikaze setups.
i don't fear the NPC... but i don't want to get used to ships i wouldn't fly in open. just in case i want to switch some day ;)

That's the problem with the current game mechanics, you can't pirate npcs effectively as you can't bargain, hatch breakers are junk and they don't carry decent cargo.

When I was trading it got to the point (when I was allied with empire) that I didn't get interdicted by an npc for about a month in Empire space.

I'm actually of the opinion that professional sports players should get paid as much as they did when they were playing the game in their youth. And by youth, I mean under age 18....which is to say, nothing at all. When teams became "franchises" the spirit of the game got buried by greed.

Why should there be ANY gap in reward because of skill level? By dint of balance, your skill is EFFECTIVELY the same as mine. You are better, therefore you play against those of equivalent (or even greater)skill, whereas I fight against opponents of equivalent (or greater) skill. Just because your opponents are players and mine are NPC's is of no relevance. Again, it boils down to you not having as many targets to shoot at....which I have no sympathy for, nor am I willing to give any ground for that invalid argument.

Still a circular argument, I see.

To everyone in favor of "incentivizing" open play by adding a bonus to CG's in open play....the only reaction that will garner is my not participating in community goals any more. Why should I get less rewards/contributions for playing a mode that favors my personal skill level?

*note*

I am in a (mostly) A-specced Vulture. An Elite rated NPC in a sidewinder will send me packing. I play solo because I'm an aging gamer. There is literally NO WAY I can compete with younger, faster players. So...I do what I can to compete. Which is.....wait for it.....PLAY IN SOLO. At least there I can contribute to a community goal. Oh, and my contributions should be in no way, shape or form any lesser than yours.

Edit:

Then how about you taking your turn at getting blown to smithereens for no good reason, hmm?

I'm betting your reply will be "Because I don't find it fun."

So what makes it fun for your(the general use, to imply ANY "pirate"...not singling you out.)victims, hmm?

Hey Mercy I'm right there with ya mate. 65 and getting better at everything, but way past my gaming prime. If I hear just one of you SOB's call me grandpa, I'll have a knuckle sandwich for ya. (jesting)

i never said that piracy isn't completely broken.
i just say that PvP piracy will never work... the foodchain can't be established.

Player C is the bounty hunter and the food chain is complete :)

I used to love being pirated when I was trading, it really got the blood pumping.

I think this is really where we differ. I've never once had a video game get my blood pumping. Maybe it is because I've been in real combat, I don't know, but I get no physical excitement gaming. A lot of time pleasurably spent, but nothing I'd call excitement.

Instead, I get a sense of dread. Not fear, but dread. I can even place the feeling. It's 100% identical to the feeling I get when I walk into the yard and see that the garden gate is open. I'm not afraid, I'm not excited, but I know the dogs have created unnecessary work for me. My mood just sours as I walk back in to the house to change into jeans and I'm dreading the next couple of hours I'm going to spend fixing things.

That's exactly how I feel playing open. I'm either the dog about to create unnecessary work for another player, or I see time on my knees scooping dirt. Neither are appealing.

Jockey is going to disagree with this(I got into an argument with him in a different thread), but I've never seen npcs interdict each other. They only target players as well.

Or perhaps he just decided to play the game as a 'baddie' and was carrying on in that role in a perfectly plausible manner. The Game calls for pirates, its a legitimate mode of gameplay, get over it.

sure, it does!
but it doesn't call for players being victims... get over it.

Of course it does, pirates prey on traders, its a perfectly legitimate mode of gameplay.

If player A is a trader and player B is a pirate then its pefectly reasonable and within the spirit of the game for player B to attack player A. Thats fundamentally what its all about.

No where does it say the "victim" has to be a human player. You can "Pirate" NPC's all day, and no one would care. Your preference to pirate human traders in no way obliges human traders to be your victim.

This is why players are the prey of choice.
