Modes The Solo vs Open vs Groups Thread - Part the Second [Now With Added Platforms].

Ok folks, if you feel there should be some equity between the modes, here's a locked thread you can contribute to:

https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=130872&p=2003663&viewfull=1#post2003663

The way this thread works is you formulate your post, and report yourself to the mods. Your report is the body of your text and they will put your opinion within the Vox Populi post.

They also suggest placing the post here, in the Private vs thread, and once it is in the thread report the post (use the link in the lower left corner) and they will copy past it into the thread.

The Vox Populi thread is one that is created for the express purpose of convincing the Lead Developer, Sandro, that there is an inequity within the modes and something should be done. Be as eloquent as you like, just keep the dialog respectful, for maximum impact.

You will only get one chance at your points..so write away and send the mods your points.

Understandable.

In my opinion, it is unfortunate they will not experience the rush of fighting another player, or being interdicted by Pirates. Real Life gets in the way of farrrr too many things these days.

For you that is a rush, but for others it is a completely different feeling. Case in point me in Eve.. loved the game.. others destroyed it for me.. for them it was a rush, it was funny to screw up what other people were doing.

Not for me. I joined Mobius so I can get the interaction with others that I do like, but not have to worry when I go anywhere about getting jumped by a gank squad of PKers. Have enough issues with trying to avoid NPC cops after I graze a clean target while firing on a wanted one to add the additional worry of fighting multiple interdictions by player characters who happend upon me while trying to get to a station and pay my fine.

I play enough PvP in other, PvP-only games, easily as much as I play PvE games; I truly love PvP when everyone is there by choice, when the fight is evenly balanced and victory isn't defined until the end.

In games similar to ED, though, I don't do it anymore, and I doubt I ever again will. I never could find anything enjoyable, at all, in one-sided, non-consensual PvP, so I not only don't engage in it, I will do whatever it takes — up to and including leaving the game altogether — to remove that awful experience from my gameplay.

So, no. Unless a way to play in Open without ever being attacked by another player against my will is implemented, don't expect me to ever fly in Open.

I remember someone saying, either in this thread or its predecessor, that by changing the screenshot folder to a slow device and taking a 4K screenshot it was possible to hang the client for a small while, dropping from the game (AKA doing a combat logoff) on command, and that this was the true reason high definition screenshots were only enabled in Solo.

Taking a 4k screenie will cause the game to 'hang' for a good 15-30 seconds...this would cause havoc in the open area...either, as you say, it could cause a combat log...but more importantly it will increase the lag for other players as the server tries to maintain contact with your computer.

Which does nothing to detract from my argument and as I've already explained; I care not.

so ur view is the right and dev-DB's view is wrong ....

From memory, it was more that the delay caused by rendering very high resolution "screenshots" created a form of invulnerability exploit.

Yup, the game basically halted until the file write had completed. Peeps were using slow USB sticks to make the pause as long as possible, and when the game re-synced it was impossible to know what would happen. Sometimes it utterly broke instances.

Because you potentially affect CG and PP in open. It's only fair.

And you blatantly ignore that what Open does affects the CG and PP in Solo a heck of a lot more. It is a numbers game, a single player in solo cannot do enough missions in a day to overwhelm CG and PP wise what a team of people doing missions and such in Open are doing. Open has more of an effect on Solo than solo has on Open.. the ONLY gripe that is had is that you can't attack the person in solo to stop them from doing the missions, but as it has been stated numerous times.... you can't attack everyone who is in Open as well. There are numerous factors that come into play for you to even see them.

So in truth your argument about what is "only fair" is wrong.

I would need statistics to establish whether solo or open play affects CG and PP more or less, which I do not. The point, as you correctly said, is that solo players can accomplish CG and PP without the danger of PVP. Unfortunately, your point about me not being able to attack all people at all times is specious. The point is that there is the possibility of others, not necessarily me, being able to intervene in your work and the fact that both CG and PP are consigned to particular regions of space increases that possiblity to the extent that it is likely.

Or I can discuss it on the forum irrespective of whether or not it will accomplish anthing.

If people like you get their way it means I will no longer be able to play with my mates many of who bought on that promise. I take it you agree FD should be liable for refunds to those who want them after FD remove core functionality?

Am i the only one thinking that this discussion is getting old? I mean, really - no offense, but y'all should heed Roybe's advice and state your business in that Vox Populi thread an be done with it. You can fill another trillion of pages and it won't get FD to change anything if they don't feel right about it. Only thing you might want to do is asking yourself "If they do / don't do a thing, what does that mean for me?". I guess FD is pondering about the very same question, only the reason for that question is a different one.

if we do that maybe things go bad cause some would think that we dont have problem for core mechanics change....:)

I accept that development of the game is probably so far along now that any serious change to the underlying systems is unlikely. However I do think it is important for the players of online that their concerns are acknowledged and that if there is any disadvantage for those playing in open versus solo/group that too is acknowledged. Perhaps something as simple as increasing online rewards by a few percent might be enough to ease some players concerns and perhaps encourage other to risk playing in open.
