Modes The Solo vs Open vs Groups Thread - Part the Second [Now With Added Platforms].

There's 400,000,000,000 star systems. Even in the core systems, there are do many that finding other players can be tough. Why does it matter if some people choose not to play with others? I play in open and am on every day but in my area I've only seen two other commanders aside from my friends who I told "come to XXX XXXX, there's lots of targets and it's surrounded by federation systems so we can blast the authority ships and still be good with the empire."

I fail to see how someone else chooses to play matters to you. It really shouldn't.

FD have said they want to 'Encourage' PvP. That means they are trying to give people a reason to engage. But, it is wrongheaded to infer that they require people to PvP. It doesn't even mean they think everyone should go in for PvP. One could argue that by having Group and Solo modes FD are encouraging players to not PvP. All they are doing is leaving the choice up to individual players. I can't see a problem with that.

You should have posted in the Open/Group/Solo thread, rather than open another thread that will just get merged anyway.

Pls say if you agree or not.

I do not, necessarily. We are all told to "play the game how you want to" and this afternoon DBOBE has been quoted as reiterating:

There are no changes planned to separate solo and online saves, and players will continue to inhabit the same shared galaxy whether they’re in solo or multiplayer—again, continuing with Braben’s contention that there’s no ‘right’ way to play.

Merged.

Already happened and if you look at the last few pages of this thread you'll see myself, Steve and a few others have been debating exactly this point. Though nobody suggested we decouple Open and Private.

I'm willing to wager that most people playing this game have sufficient enough connection. Those that don't are likely a minority. In the Empire, the majority rules, and the minority is crushed, and eradicated.

Long live the Emperor, praise be unto him and his quest to remove solo play.

This is why the Empire smells.

lol, the only reason people play solo is to be safer and have less risk.
No, it is because some of us wanted a solo game, was sold a solo game which we bought because we were told we could play in solo, but instead we got some weird and increasing broken hybrid. Don't blame us because FD sold us one thing and delivered something else. Screw PVP.

I don't think it's that broken. I'm in favour of small tweaks to balance things out a bit. I think the No. 1 cause of disharmony is the simple knowledge that the other mode exists. If people stopped caring about how other people played they'd be fine.

When I look for PvP, I always find it. And those buggers undermining me in solo... well I have my buggers undermining THEM in solo. Swings and roundabouts.

(wonky instancing aside)

However, you can't put that aside so any talk of "people you have no chance of seeing" is rendered moot with regards to play modes. There are no plans to increase the instancing above 32 players (and even that is rare in practice).

This is the problem with the merge - the thread inherits a new intake who haven't been finely tuning their opinion on this topic in the forge of repeated argument for nearly 15000 posts.

I almost feel sorry for them...

Dig deep, we can do this. ;)

Just out of interest, anyone know if xbox (please don't ban me for swearing) will have the same open/private setup?

It was confined by Michael.

There's no subscription for the Xbox version, you can play solo with a silver Xbox Live account. For open and group play you need a Gold Live account.

MIchael
Silver is a free account - as with other multiplayer titles on Xbox One you need to have a Gold Live account to play multiplayer. This does not affect the PC version.

Michael
You can play Solo mode with a Silver Live account - which is free.

Michael

And to make matters worse they will all be separate from the PC/Mac players but share the same universe.

Robert, I think it may be time for that ultra-mega-thread.

PC/Mac Open vs. PC/Mac Group vs. PC/Mac Solo vs. XBox Open vs. XBox Group vs. XBox Solo

We need to get warmed up before the Playstation release....

Does the silver account still have access to basically change the galaxy and BGS though? If so, then what in the hell is this game trying to be?

The Gold-Silver thing is fine, but this game, kiiiiinnnnddaaa isn't a game you can do that to though.

This thread really has no point to be fair, its all ignored anyway by the devs. If they actually listened to us the game would be awfull because lets be frank, we dont build games, they will. If you are not pleased, SC is probably gonna go in Beta in 2016

It gives us a place to vent.

On that last point, Producer Ben Dowie reiterated that Xbox One and PC players won’t be playing head-to-head—although they’ll be playing in the same simulated universe, they’ll never encounter each other in space, likely because Microsoft’s Xbox patch cycle adds complexity to Frontier’s game update procedure.
