Modes The Solo vs Open vs Groups Thread - Part the Second [Now With Added Platforms].

Hello Robert, please don't take offence.....but I am sure I am not the only one here who is uncomfortable with a supposed un-biased Mod getting involved in the most heated debate surrounding this game and so obviously coming out for one side of the argument......
.
Should you really be posting your very "pro solo" views here under the Moderator badge?

I'm pretty sure that Robert plays the game only in Open. He's not offering pro-Solo arguments, he's offering anti-change arguments if anything. He mostly offers non-bias facts. There are more out-spoken Mods than Robert for or against particular modes.

As pointed out already they aren't paid by Frontier, they do this for free, and all they are expected to do is maintain some sort of order on the forums. I only wish Frontier were as involved in this debate as Robert tbh.

I do say open play is PVP no matter what your doing because even when its not direct your still running that risk, pretty much any role is potentially the prey of another, you dont need to be hunting someone but rest assured someone out there is hunting for you and that is a fact of open play even if they never find you or like me just fail at it :p

This is why I will never come out of Solo or Group mode. I don't want any PvP, ever. Not interested in it in the slightest. You could increase traders profits (for Open) a hundred fold and I still wouldn't venture into Open. I am more than happy with how the modes are now and if they ever got rid of solo or groups, then I would quit the second it was implemented. I am sure I am not alone in that view.

DDSS, I see...

Forgot to answer this bit.

You seem to have conflated my support for the status quo, i.e. player choice with respect which mode to play in on a session-by-session basis, as a "pro solo" stance in isolation. I play almost exclusively in Open, only occasionally moving to Solo when the game lags so badly that it affects control input to the extent that keypresses are ignored, not just delayed.

I share DBOBE's view that "there is no 'right' way to play the game" and, like every other player, have been told to "play the game how you want to". Those seeking to remove or restrict player choice don't seem so concerned about the freedoms of other players.

Sometimes I could swear that certain people are making new accounts to rehash the same argument as a new person:p

MMO.... if you have a game that "CAN" have interaction between more than just a small group it is an MMO. That does NOT mean you have to implement everything or even most of what MMO's offer and it also does not mean you have to force your players to interact with everyone else.

I find it tremendously funny and infuriating at the same time in that the main complaint of those wanting "Open Only" and preaching "player Interaction" are doing so from the basis of wanting to SHOOT the other player.

Maybe in the spirit of "player interaction" that these people tout so much they should start playing traders so their buddies can shoot them, then after awhile maybe switch.

I am absolutely sure that happens. Didn't mods have a sockpuppet purge some time back? I seem to remember one guy thinking that multiboxing via tor would let him have as many accounts as he liked - but he got banned anyway.

It's also one reason a couple of my Elite playing friends don't have forum accounts - they mostly play from here (better PC's), and posting here would look like I have multiple accounts on one IP :(

so where does this game stop being an SP/co-op and become player driven IE an MMO? because thats what its listed as

Massive? 400 Billion Stars enough for you?
Multiplayer? Mobius has over 9000 members playing in the same Galaxy at various times
Online: Need an Internet connection to sign into the game.

The defence rests...

They have repeatedly stated that the current situation is not going to change, I'm really not sure what additional involvement is expected?

I think Edward dropping a gold name in here, just repeating what Sir David said would go a long way to getting the point over.
After all, anyone arguing with an employee of FD saying no - is not here to discuss anything, they are here just to complain for the sake of it (thus we know who to put on /ignore).

They have repeatedly stated that the current situation is not going to change, I'm really not sure what additional involvement is expected?

They asked for comments on the matter of Community Goals across the different play modes three months ago. No feedback has been made by Frontier on this issue. Why did they ask? That was opened after these statements that "nothing is planned to changed" or "nothing will change in the foreseeable future" (statements that are not as definitive or set in stone as some people seem to read them as, like most dev statements). And these statements have been made since.

Since raising a question over that issue they originally planned to include a very similar ladder in PP (that was even more competitive than CG). They only removed that after negative feedback (not about modes, but about the desire to play cooperatively rather than competitively, amongst the Powers). Why include it if they were actually paying any heed to the issue they raised as a concern? It was like the negativity was a surprise when we've been having this debate for two years+.

If they were to be more involved in these debates we would at least be more confident that they are actually paying attention to them. Some complaints are actually reasonable, even if they do get mixed in with some ridiculous ones, and are raised again, and again. They deserve some direct feedback surely? Even if it says the same thing. But saying "we have no plans to change it" in direct response to a regular request for change has a lot more weight than a generic detached statement.

They are in a position to offer an insight into their design decisions, we are all only guessing.

Community management/engagement/feedback.
