Unless it's horse![]()
FINALLY we have a use for all these dead equines littering up the place!
Unless it's horse![]()
Never. I play games to have fun. I don't care if I am the best Barbie Horse Adventures player in the universe I'm not going to play it because I don't find it fun. Not since I found out you can't be Ken in it anyway.
I can't play Chaos Reborn to save my life, but I love it, so I play it a lot.
I am in a Cobra Mk3 with class A modules because that's what I have the most fun in.
I have another Cobra at Founders world, as well as two Diamondback scouts (one at Founders, the other at my home base), an anaconda, a FDL, a python, a clipper, a courier, a diamondback scout, two vipers, and a seriously pimped out sidewinder.
But I'm not playing "the best", I'm playing "what is the most fun at the moment?".
I bet he couldn't. I bet I couldn't either. But (and feel free to put me right here Mouse) we simply do not care. The ability to move your joystick a few inches around while making pretty lights flicker on a screen in front of you is not a very valuable skill. Killing "CMDR Teh_Breadtruck!1!!" in a fake space battle isn't the kind of thing you'd brag about to friends to impress them, or something you'd tell your parents to make them proud of you.
You missed the bit at the bottom of the post that reads "edited".
The original implied those not playing open didn't have the skills to play the game in general - which was insulting.
It has since been changed to what you quoted to try and be a bit more clear.
so if i am not improving my combat skills then i am an idiot and playing the game wrongly.
not a question, a statement.
if i am enjoying the game without ...
<snip>
You forgot "if I am not jamming SCBs and shield boosters into my craft and then running when my shields fall, I am not playing PvP the right way."
I particularly enjoy when the PvP crowd talk about running away from an encounter after their shields fall. It is "the smart way." It is also then a battle, not between CMDRs, but between ship loadouts. Where is the skill in that?
I don't need that skill, i have netflix![]()
And if i thought pvp should be a required skill of the game, I'd be soooo burned right now. This is the best post yet to turn around on you and tell you that I don't need the skills of PvP; I have the modes.

I might be completely wrong about this, but to be fair to Mr Cobalt he doesn't seem to argue that PvP is needed for its own sake. His principle problem seems to be with the lack of pirating opportunities, coupled with very very poor support for piracy with regard to NPCs.

If by "supported" you mean "able to be practiced on those who do not wish to participate" then no, it is not supported.
PvP is possible in the game, however it cannot be forced upon those who do not wish to participate in it (well, not too often, anyway).
No Robert. There is NO support for PvP. Theonly thing supported is Role Playing killing people. There is no in game reason to kill anyone past that.
If you think there is some reason, past Role Play, for killing another PC...rather than an NPC....please...explain to us...
That's pretty accurate. I don't have a problem with mode switching, in theory. However, in practice, as it currently is, it's not great. There's absolutely no reason for non-combat professions to play in open. Imo open needs to be more rewarding for non combat roles, in some way. Whether it's financially, or with better non-shooting interaction.I might be completely wrong about this, but to be fair to Mr Cobalt he doesn't seem to argue that PvP is needed for its own sake. I said "possible" not "supported".
Why does there need to be a distinction between targeting NPCs and players?
Any kind of "bonus" for attacking players is an incentive to PvP - why would PvP need an incentive?
If this was a PvP supported game...it would reward PvP on an equivalent footing to PvE. It doesn't, therefore, the game is not a PvP game. The only thing that is rewarded is PvE collection of trophies.

Except for PP undermining, PvP is rewarded the same as it's PvE equivalent. Idk about CZ fighting, Does anyone know if combat zone kills against players are rewarded? I think they are but i'm not positive. If this was a PvP supported game...it would reward PvP on an equivalent footing to PvE. It doesn't, therefore, the game is not a PvP game. So you don't play games to get better??

Pvp does not necessarily mean killing people. It is about direct player to player competition.
Yes it is supported. All open is PvP enabled - this didn't need to be the case.
Why would Frontier say things like the following if the game did not support pvp?
"We're giving players a reason to engage in PVP against supporters of other factions"
