Modes The Solo vs Open vs Groups Thread [See new thread]

The evidence is in this very thread. Someone asked if they move them here to die and the mod said yes

No, I meant this; "...So it proves 1 of 2 things is happening. Moderator abuse, or if FDEV has told them to do it this way then it shows FDEV don't care about the opinions on the forums."

Funny thing is, none of this would be issue if there had been an offline mode.

This was an issue for some even when offline mode was still expected.

Some players want all players to play in open; some players don't mind the three modes but want players to be restricted to the mode they created the commander in; yet other players are quite content with the status quo - three game modes and the ability to group switch on a session by session basis.

Its just too all encompassing, because within the solo v open debate there are infact quite a large number of unique ideas/opinions worth discussing. one of my threads wasn't even about solo vs open and it somehow got moved in here....

The thread has just gone too big, there are worthwhile things being said but they get lost in the noise.

Well, as an old timer in this thread, I've seen many a merger here. I'll break them down for you and why they get put here;

1, Modes are bad - remove them.
2, Buff a mode.
3, Nerf a mode.
4, Restrict a mode.
5, Where's my offline mode.
6, Rename the modes.
7, Different background sim for each mode.
8, Different missions for each mode.

They all boil back to the same thing (hence why they get merged).

Open players want more, or wish for solo / group players to get less.

FD said no, so your threads come here to die.

Lol, the threads are already dead when they start, they just come here to stop the corpse abuse and to get a decent burial.

Sums it all up very nicely. A few are unable to get their heads around an unusual game concept so will continue to repeat the same old whines, this thread simply prevents them cluttering up the main forum with that repetitive noise.

In a game like this the size of the wallet should not decide benefits that should be based on risk vs reward. It should not matter whether 500 or 50 was paid to determine game balance

My point is that there is no reason to penalize solo players and no reason to increase rewards to open players because both are there to enjoy the game THE WAY THEY WANT TO.
You as an open player don't really deserve more because that is the mode YOU have decided to play in...nothing special there. If anyone IS deserving of greater rewards it is the backers who gave more of their hard earned money to see FD succeed. But since FD treats everyone equally solo players should and will earn just as much as you.....sorry that ruffles your feathers so much.....TOO BAD...Get over it.

Why do you as an open player and a pew pew type feel you are being somehow slighted because solo players are contributing in their own way. Get over it....what you are advocating would accomplish nothing more than drive solo players, not to open, but away from the game altogether. Great plan there! Less players overall, less money into FD's coffers via paid exspansions, paint jobs and other doohickies...

Yeah according to a mod they move them here so the threads have a chance to die.

You really are going to have to come up with something more substantial that "according to a mod".

Provide the quote or all the posts with this item will be treated as mis-information and deleted.

I would be happy if it were a seperate commander save each mode so you could not farm in solo then move to open. Also a separation so what a solo player does has no effect on the open universe and viceversa. That way for an example an open player doing a community goal could not lose the spot they earned playing against other human players and AI directly could not be bumped down by some1 just playing against AI, and in turn the open having no effect on the solo either

Delete it if you want.. I know what I read , it is in this thread and I am not going through the 300 pages to find it again

Previously, I postsed an answer to a couple of calls to close this thread:

Close. This. Thread.

Pointless. Waste. Of. Time.

This. So much this.

Not going to happen, I'm afraid

This is the merge target for every thread that pops up complaining about existing game features from players that have just discovered that they don't like the features.

Paraphrased:

It's where Open / Solo threads go to die... in other words ;)

Indeed.....

Not really my intent to infer that this thread is a post graveyard - my mistake and apologies for any misunderstanding.

To remind users of Yaffle's instructions from the first post in this thread:

There have been several threads on the topic of switching between solo/private groups/open. This thread is going to be the merge target for all other threads on the topic, no matter how 'unique' the thread creator may think their thread is. Creating a poll is not unique.

For someone who says he has read enough of the thread to quote 'some mod' you sure seem to have missed aaaaalllll of those many posts that explain in minute detail how it makes no difference at all whether you 'farm' in solo or in open.

Thank you Robert. If I did misunderstand your intent with that post then my apologies as well. It just feels like it is a way to push peoples legitimate concerns under the rug and when I read what you said there it really felt that way.

The biggest problem with the whole open vs solo mode is INSTANCING. When you can't see more the 5 to 8 CMDRS at a time, what does it really matter if someone is farming in solo? Or group for that matter. You have to also take in account the instancing causes fights not to be balanced. so say a group of 8 players from the same community like Crimson state ( terrorist) want to play together at a combat zone in Lugh, that takes up most of the CMDR instance right there. Then coms along a solo player that wants to take part in the community goal and gets dropped in the same instance. Now with the current hollow radar indication, the Crimson State wings ( terrorist) can just pounce on that one player.

If there is to be community goals are only in open then open needs a serious overhaul. You should not be able to tell on your radar what ships are CMDRs and which are not. That is a Co op tool imo and a grievers tool in open.

It does make a difference when a persons actions in game affect the universe in all modes

You know what? You can have your wish.... when they switch from this P2P mess to a server-client setup.

Right now? It's not worth logging in because some of these poor folks are on substandard machines that can't handle more than 2 or three players connected.

I'll stick to solo, get the same rewards because I paid for the same game you did. My money spent is worth no less or more due to my preference of game mode.

go into lugh and you will see a whole hell of alot more than 8 CMDRS and in open you face cmdrs and NPCs where in solo you face only NPCs. NPCs are so much easier to beat in solo when you don't have the direct competition of other human players to get the kills. In a CG awards are based on the kills and what award you get is based on your direct contributions. Therefore someone in solo has an unfair advantage over those in open on the amount they can contribute and thereby the ranking of the rewards they receive, and at the same time bumping open players down in the rankings because they can't contribute as much.

There have been people that said in this thread "well you can go solo as well" but why should we have to go solo to be competitive and earn rewards that we should have the same fir shot at in open?

Not saying your money is worth less. I said in an earlier post that maybe this was titled wrong and it should not exclude, but maybe seperated so you can play the game your way, and I can play mine and there is no influence on results from each others actions.

I can understand why solo is played. Hell I have a good PC but crappy internet due to there only being 2 choices for high speed internet (not including satellite with its insane cost and bandwidth restrictions) and 1 of them is dsl through verizon without fios being available which limits me to the slowest internet I have had in a very long time.

I'm a dedicated Solo player. I have nothing against Open Play, but tons against griefers. To date, no game has adequately addressed that problem in the immediate moment. Something you are forgetting, is that not all actions affect all modes. The DATA, the trading and kill counts are shared between all games as a permanent function. But there's no real system to deal with someone IDing and fragging everyone who jumps into a system's nav beacon, before they can bolt to a station and buy off their wanted levels. It's nice to see all those SysSec ships when I'm bounty hunting or in a warzone, but they're nowhere to be found when an attacker's jumped away and is supercrusing their way to safety and I'm trying to decide if I want a Sidewinder to replace my old ship.

I don't mind the option of player playing open. And when I feel comfortable, when -I- decide I'm ready to step into that hornet's nest, I'll be glad the option's there. But the day Solo play goes away, is the day I want a refund for ED. The stories I have in ED, are the best ones I've had in a game for a while. Not because of the breadth or depth, but because they're MINE. When I foolishly sold the shield on my Type 6 for more cargo racks, after getting used to a Standard Docking Computer, and accidentally drilled it nose first into the side of a station along with two million credits in gold, I was depressed at first. But then I started giggling my rear off. There was no griefer, no in game problem, nothing that contributed to that situation, other than my own overconfidence and slack pilot skills. I found it funny as hell, and still love telling the story. But that's MY story in ED. It's not one I have to share with someone who bought the game at release, or is an obsessive grinder that wants to thwack me with a Python or an Anaconda just because they can.

I play in open at Lugh, you see more CMDRS at the station ( maybe ) but not in the combat zones. You also have a wing of class A fit FDLs and Clippers against players in Vipers, Fair fight? Even when you see the hollow indicator?

I think you are confusing the CG to be PVP based, and here is the problem. Players in solo and group are there for the PVE CG , unless there is a PVP goal I am unaware of. Alot of CMDRs in solo wings are there just to kill CMDRS at a PVE event, not for the kills toward the CG.

This is why ( which I am thankful) ED has options to play solo, group, or open. Choice is one of the best things about Elite.

Are you also going to start a thread about players having more time to play during the day then others to work toward the CG? That seems like the next complaint in line with your thinking.
