I've said this before and i'l say it again. Open is the primary way ED should be played it was always envisaged as an MMO, but playing in solo is also a perfectly acceptable alternative for those who shy from open play.
What is not acceptable is the ability to constantly swap between the two modes that is what is causing , and will continue to cause such strife IMO mode swapping is just as bad as combat logging.
Salute Commanders,
Snakebite, some things we agree on, some we disagree, and I have to disagree with your opinion in this area.
I say this: Solo is the way Elite should be played, as it always has been a solo game, but playing in OPEN is an acceptable afterthought for those who crave PvP. What is not acceptable is the ability to murder unarmed ships with no consequences, and that is what is causing, and will continue to cause such strife. Equalizing programmed, intended game play to an unintended exploit is selfish and and disingenuous.
So far, not one person has ANY evidence that people hang out in solo to give them any advantage over PvP players. There is all sorts of witch hunting going on in these forums, from cheats to exploits to mode switching. FD will, I have faith, address any real problems as they can in the future. All we have now is a lot of doomsday sayers.
Myself? I have played solo since early beta. I am now up to a T6, keeping every ship I get and outfit. Just recently I joined Mobius for some decent social interaction. I am still learning combat, exploration, mining, and will trade forever as that is my favorite. PvP? 10 year EvE player here. Had enough of BLOBS.. That is ALL PvP evolves into.. The biggest BLOB wins the galaxy. Well I want my peace, and piece of the galaxy. I don't need to twitch play. If/when that happens, I am out. If/when OPEN offers me something enticing enough to come there, then I will try it.
These are my opinions with all respect sir.
Edit: mistyping...
