No, its actually a fact, they have a working game with loads of planets, galaxy map, trading, stations, mining, even if its incomplete (BETA) right now, and most of all, a fun flying mechanic. What I'm saying is, I have little reason to doubt they will deliever on their other promises.

SC promised me the BDSSE, and delievered an FPS module in space for now.

He means your opinion on AC I believe.

Is that right? I thought you could earn ships in the game with in-game money. I can understand limited edition variants that were only available to Kickstarter backers and that type of thing. But other than those special ones I had assumed that you could buy all other ships by earning them.

You can't earn ships until the game releases... so everything is locked behind a paywall for the next years.
Of course you can earn ships in game once it releases.

With regard to the whole "innovative" and "groundbreaking" thing, as it currently stands, there is nothing in SC that is innovative in any way, as everything in it has already been done before. (Damage model, newtonian flight, ship systems simulation, raw gameplay, etc. One exception could be the thruster simulation system, but its usefulness in a game is still somewhat dubious.) For the most part, it's just groups of Cryengine levels with different themes. Nothing that has been playable is remotely "mind-blowing" just yet.

What is being planned for SC (but not in currently) is somewhat innovative, but still, for the most part it's been done. Landing and walking on planets seamlessly has been in Evochron for a while, engine tuning/weapon overclocking was first seen in the X-Wing games, stealth is already brilliantly done in Elite (and was put into SC due to backers requesting it after seeing it in Elite), crafting has been in every MMO ever (and is usually implemented as a boring time-sink anyway), etc.

I know there's the argument coming, "Yeah, these things have been in other games, but SC will be the first to do it ALL!" But does that necessarily make it a better game? Does it add to the gameplay? In most cases, it doesn't. Spore was a game that did many things too, but in the end, after the initial impression wore off, the game really wasn't that engaging.

It's actually the games that try to keep things simple and focused that end up being amazing. The Quake games were hardly complex, but people play them to this day. FTL is fairly simple, but it's decidedly addicting. Even the juggernaut that is Minecraft has pretty basic gameplay concepts, and yet is one of the biggest time sinks out there.

Remember, SC is a game, so it doesn't matter how many "mind-blowing," "innovative" things are in it (if they are that) if the game itself isn't fun in the end.

I think what they mean by innovative is that all of these elements combined has never been done before. Everything you mentioned only does very few of what SC does, and not as well as SC promises. Of course all of it is nothing but promises atm, but all the technology we know today as "innovative" was already done before, but simply improved on and made better. If SC actually becomes what it says it will (big if here) then I dont see any reason to say that its not innovative.

It does that for you? Is it the Arena Commander, the Racing Module or just driving a buggy around in the hangar?

All of the above, but specifically doing training flights and scrims in AC with clan mates is a fun way to gain a deeper understanding of the game.

The latest comments about how FPS is at the core of SC makes me think about Planetside2 more than anything else. Tribes as well maybe.

Simulation of the crew inside ships and infantry combat is part of the overall space combat simulation. But infantry combat is not the most common denominator like in Battlefield or Planetside. That is, you won't have infantry floating around in Zero-G shooting ships with their over-powered rocket launchers. Instead, space combat between ships will be by far the decisive factor and boarding/infantry engagement subsidiary to it.

Nah, that's not true. They are going to introduce this with AC 1.1/1.x (Earning fake UEC playing AC to unlock other AC ships).

As far as I know you won't be able to buy ships with UEC, only weapons and other stuff.
I've never seen any mention of being able to unlock ships through gameplay in the AC.
I'd love to be proven wrong as this has been a long-lasting grudge I have against the horrid P2W that is the AC right now.

A lot of RtV episodes... Confirmed by Ben and Travis.

The FPS module is not yet released and you haven't seen it delivered to you yet. What is delivered is Arena Commander (DFM module) and the Hangar module. This makes it possible to play a small part of the game right now, while you await the full game to be released. The additional funding backers have put in will make the finished game be all the richer and so much more immersive. I think the moduled plan makes a lot of sense and I look forward to see it comes together.

Sounds too good to be true ;)
Care to link me one where they mention it?

Also what do they mention? Ships purchasable with UEC or unlocking?
Any timeframe on when?

You will not be able to unlock or purchase ships with UEC, what you will be able to do is purchase a token that you can use to unlock a ship for a short amount of time.

With fake UEC/AC credits that you can earn with playing AC... It's basically Ingame-Ingame-Credit... Microtranseption :p

FPS is a common term for First Person View. which is what Erin Roberts is talking about in his comment. You will be in First Person View for the Entire Game not in fps combat for the entire game
It takes a little common sense when reading these interviews.

Like I said, you can't unlock ships with fake UEC/AC credits. Nothing you linked contradicts that. Subscribers will get a token a month to test out ships (last word I read was for 24 hours), that same token can be purchased using the fake UEC. There will be no unlocking ships with fake UEC.

GET YOUR SC TOWELS NAOH!

Yeah, sure... no SC ingame ships, but (tokens for) AC ships.

Oh do you have information that is different? Please link it.

You will be able to earn AC tokens that you can use use to fly a ship for 24 hours. You will not be able to truly unlock ships to use in AC by using fake UEC. The tokens are not for AC ships, they are just to give you the ability to fly a single ship for 24 hours.
