The Star Citizen Thread V10

That really is an excuse of buyers. More and more outsiders seem to say: "I am kinda interested, but what point is there in earning in-game, when I'll be competing with people who have everything". And in a way they are right, why would you do that, especially on day one, in a system as small as SC has? Star Citizen is needlessly limiting their player base further and further, catering to whales to the point that it detracts potential customers.
good point.... see i am a pure PvE player and as such competition with other players means nothing to me.... indeed my biggest fear of the game is that they removed the PvP slider, this concerns me far more than any P2W mechanics....

but i am kind of hoping there will be some way of minimising PvP encounters. ... be it private servers or some sort of router magic... but if i cant do that then i am likely stuffed what ever the case. after the 1st 6 months of playing ED in open i moved to a PG due to some experiences with "emergent content creators".... had this not been possible i would have stopped playing then.

SC could have that and even more so with much fewer locations in the game hence why I am hoping that - maybe not day 1 - sooner rather than later CIG will implement some sort of pure PvE mode.

BTW can you clarify what do you mean by buyers? if you mean an excuse that people with all the shinies say to defend them having all the good stuff with money then, you have me all wrong.... I am the opposite of that as for me having access to all the shinies without earning them in game would kill the game for me. I have a basic $65 package with SC and S42 and a 300i.

I had access to a loaded cobra mk3 with my elite pledge as well but i never used it. Sidewinder all the way for me (though i do like the little reduction of insurance)

BTW I remember when your avatar picture was that boy as a baby.....time is flying...life goes on......except when it comes to the SC we are still stucked in pre-alpha loop.....

aye time flies..... he is closer to 4 now than to 3. I still miss the days of being able to dedicate an entire day to gaming long ago tho it was!.

I'm sure we'll see mike's avatar evolve to a hairy guy with a beer in his hand long before we see SC come out of Alpha.

lol quite possibly... ;)

It's an excuse that originates at these buyers, though. The fact that you accepted it doesn't change that, though I understand it's not your fault.

If only revenue directly translated to timely development.

The issue is quite straightforward. If CIG have been unable to deliver a minimally stable and filled in of content product after 7/8 years and ~250 MMUSD (alpha or otherwise) why should we think more money is “encouraging”? More money obviously does not seem to be the key ingredient for success here.

The funny thing about that revenue chart is that it only makes me wonder that much more how much SC has actually cost over that period. It's a lot more, obviously, but exactly how much? It's not just that this colossal amount of money has not yielded any kind of reasonable delivery; it's not even that we should maybe doubt whether more money would help; it's that we already know that more money has already been spent, and it still hasn't helped in any way.

clears throat

Well, my good friend, that is where you are wrong. CIG had to start a multi-office studio from scratch, and they have had to lay the foundation for that first. While the progress may seem slow to someone who doesn't quite understand game development, they have actually done so incredibly fast since they started in 2015. Studios like Bethesda and Rockstar needed way longer to get even close to where CIG is now. And when you see all the pipelines and unique tech they have developed since, it is pretty much inevitable that CIG will be able to release Star Citizen in two years. Not just as pitched, but better. You can already see that in the roadmap, which is clear evidence for both CIG's transparancy and ability to deliver AAAA content.

You FUDster! Development only really started in 2017.

Missed "refactor" for a full bingo. Sad. :D Also I much prefer "tripple AAA" to "AAAA" because 9 > 4.

Lulz aside - whatever happened to their already designed and delivered and fully functional ‘Verse trading simulation from 2013 or so?
It's in the secret internal dev build, obviously, and is so advanced that they can't release it to backer because then CCP and Paradox would steal it to supplement their inept b-team attempts at economy sims.

I can assure you I understand the difference between velocity and acceleration. :)
That quote from your previous posts showed clearly the opposite.

And no, "Even going at a very small speed, but in an instant, is an infinite acceleration" makes no sense. Please, let's drop it.
It makes sense. dv/dt, with dt=0, please again, tell me the result. That "please drop it" was a poor attempt to have the last word without answering my previous posts..
The lack of 2nd order movement is quite obvious when playing the game in any smaller ship. Instant thrust availability is also an issue...

In a related manner I had the very same circular argument with SC cultists.
I read something about how they following blindly everything CRoberts say, even if self contradictory, is a known principle (it's got a German name which i promptly forgot) where they will distort reality so that their cult leader is always right. Reminds me of trying to speak to flat earthers...
Maybe the SC physics grid is based on flat earth theories ? That would explain a lot.

Joke apart, what's depressing is we know they have nothing as CR would be totally incapable of holding himself from spilling the beans.

You're thinking of (and conflating) cognitive dissonance and fremdschämen — the former being the self-contradictory thinking and the latter being the result in the onlooker. ;)

It's not even about Chris' quirks and eccentricities — it's contradictory to their entire existence and modus operandi: if they had something, it would take roughly dt=0 before they shouted and screened it from the rooftops and youtubes to bolster the backers' confidence and ensure that the money kept flowing. They don't so they very obviously haven't.

Pretty much what I m thinking since 2015. And the fact that most media articles are equally unimpressed with the projects progress only bolsters my opinion. I m sorry that I m not impressed by mediocre or even subpar anymore...this joke has cost too much to be funny or shrug off.

I love Aegis ships.
I love them too.

No more whale hunting for you Sovapid!

  • HRST weapons (Attrition and Dominance) have had their heat based damage bonus removed and been given a slight damage increase to compensate as a temporary work around to the unintended shield penetration.

I don't think that members of the gaming media were too impressed with demoing "Alpha 3.0" in July 2017 and being effectively misled with its progress:

Star Citizen fans have been eagerly awaiting the arrival of Alpha 3.0, currently scheduled for a release in late August.

I'm also pretty stoked to say I got to play a build of 3.0 during a visit to Cloud Imperium Games' Los Angeles studio a couple of weeks ago, and got to check out some of its new features.

It later transpired that what they actually played was the Gamescom 2017 showfloor demo - the one that had servers needing to be hard reset every 20 minutes.
