For some reason I don't believe SC can manage an event like this.

Unless, of course, you mean CitCon video of said event.
Indeed, i mean citcon event.

It also depends a bit on the "massive" part.

The server should have no issue handling 30 NPC's and a group of bombers. After all, all that is needed is a patch that gives port olisar piddly hitpoint and it can be a quick hit-and-run attack and then they are gone.

I believe it could be done by few devs logging in dev accounts and blowing it up. I don't trust NPCs can manage to do that, they'd get stuck in doorway on the way there.

Why? PO doesn't belong to Stanton system? I thought it was Levski...
Because why would they wipe something from an already shallow star system, apart from making a new "now you see the tutorial level, now you don't", or because Chris saw Fortnite's event?

Crusader is supposed to have a planet landing zone, kinda like Cloud City in Star Wars. I was under the impression that they were not gonna remove PO until that is finished.

Well, all that would be needed is a scripted event with X ships arriving out of quantum, locking torpedoes and firing on Olisar and then leaving, or dying in combat.

There is no need for them to go all the way with NPC's getting on ships.

It will be interesting how many players will fall to their death alone or with their ships.

It's a gas giant so it has no ground.

Yeah, sane devs would do that. But remember, this is Chris Roberts, so FIDELITY.

Also how would you do the event timing? In fixed time, making many players miss it? Would it happen every time you arrive to it, making it seem silly? It's a pretty cool idea for a SP game, but can't really see it working perfectly in MP, there will be some caveats always.

True, but since the PU is basically a microcosm of what they want to do, ie, bigger and more star system and the PU is basically a testing ground who cares if some players blow up and have to respawn in a new space station.

It's not like they loose any assets except those that are removed on a server reset within 3 month's anyway.

Or have the event BEFORE they introduce the 3.8 patch basically.

Hold on, that's new.

Does this mean CIG had to invite Mark back for more mo-cap?

Also, releasing in 2020? Hah, let's see about that.
tw@tter may be the most toxic social medium invented in the Digital Age. But it never fails to entertain. And did not fail to deliver on my day off today. Was sipping some warm milk while reading Hamil's original tw@tter post. All that combined trolling (FTR & DS) and predictable sheeple replies from the SC disciple faithful. Oh my poor olfactory senses. Milk came out my nose 😅

How is that NPC breathing without a helmet in that picture? Is it supposed to have an earth like atmosphere?
Oh it can indeed have an earth like atmosphere at the correct altitude, even gravity, but when you fall off the edge the chemical composition of the atmosphere can be rather different a few hundred kilometers down, and then you have the pressure to think of.

It all depends on the atmospheric composition and what different chemical layers it's composed of deeper down.

I wouldn't think so. Well, if it is a typical hydrogen / helium gas giant.
