The Star Citizen Thread V10

The question is, if the "MMO" survives the lawsuit. Currently there is two products under the name "Star Citizen", but only one contractual engine license.

And you gotta admit, this looks pretty good....

Never said SC didn't look good. It should look good considering its Cryengine. Good looks a good game do not make though.

Or was all that criticism levelled at ED by people for being a pretty screenshot generator invalid? ED looks good, many games look good, especially modern games, some of which blow SC away in the graphics department.

I'm playing the latest 3.4.1 offering after enjoying the PTU for the last week or so...doing some mining in my newly store credit aquired putt-putt-Prospector. (Melted the Freelancer Max because...orangeness... and likeness to council bin lorry)

Quite surprised at the detail behind the mining mechanic in SC...it's well thought out even as a tier 0 implementation of the craft. It's fun for me personally, reasonably demanding skill wise and a surprisingly lucrative endeavour to boot when you gain some experience of what to blast and what's not worth the effort.

Newly added to 3.4 is the ability to mine the asteroids fields around Yela and Delamar as well as planetary rocks on every planet and moon...which yield vastly different elements and involved techniques depending on the environment/temperature etc.

Looks like I'll be a miner in SC as well as E-D then... yeah, yeah, I know you have to fork out for a Prospector to partake in the rock blasting. (I can feel the comment coming) I had the unwanted Freelancer to melt which involved no further purchases of either ships or shares. Usual disclaimers apply :p

A little SC mining guide from DaGaimez...

And maybe one day, when it doesn't cost hundreds of dollars to use a mining ship, maybe more people will be able to enjoy this tier 0 activity :p

True, and I agree wholeheartedly. I'm lucky in the sense that I could jump into mining at no extra cost bar what I had already put into SC... but it's certainly not there for everyone to try. There's talk of mining equipment that can be fitted to existing ships someway along the line...we'll see if that actually materialises or not.

The prospector is the same cost as a Freelancer Max @ $150 so above the amount most folks would be willing to put in. If you're already in that amount, it's neither here nor there of course. The Prospector is currently available to buy in game like everything else and when/if the persistence gets nailed down, the credit making opportunities finalised, it may not be that big of a time investment to buy one through the game...that's the plan anyhoo, as far as I believe.

During the PTU testing with the 5 million creds available, buying a Prospector from the in game ship sellers hardly dented the balance. As of now, with the lack of persistence between patches and the ability to earn the credits just not being there...it's barely a possibility due to the hours and effort needed to earn that much.

In the meantime...it's what's there for better or worse and I found it fair to pass the experience along for what it is.

We went from ships with modularity to ship variants, because it worked better to suck money from gullible. It probably won't happen unless ship sales dry up and nothing else (like land claims assets) works.

They don't need testers they already have plenty with Evocatis (and those are bringing money, profit!)

That's why I added 'Usual disclaimers apply'...since 99.99% of us already know this due to reading it ad nauseam on this thread alone over the last 2 years [yesnod]

I'm desperately trying to avoid the political slanging matches and merely posting what I see and what I do...this being the SC discussion thread an' all. The rest is immaterial...however relevant it may be to some.

I kinda liked him. Hopefully he'll be back.

Yes, a nice fellow, I hope he comes back.

Off topic: Came right back with the Missus from her usual annual christmas shopping spree, not even the chaotic development of SC/SQ42 can top that!
I'm in dire need of an alcoholic beverage now, jeez. Maybe she should start equity crowdfunding too. Jesus Christ!

From what you said there I think you can understand that there'd be a bit of discussion about that $150 barrier to a game mechanic. For me it's more confusion than anything else. It seems a little strange to keep a piece of gameplay away from most of the players. Is the intention to keep mining an exclusive activity?

If the mining ships are something that can be earned through in-game play, how much grinding do you think it should take to earn them? A month? A week? What is 150 dollars worth of grinding?

In Elite the speed of obtaining ships gets faster as time goes by. Will Star Citizen be less prone to this happening? How would you feel if a ship you paid $150 for was obtained with just an afternoon's play?

It is what it is for the moment. My current understanding is that the ship prices are set at their in game final prices..as in they won't inflate any further. However, as I mentioned, there's no persistence between patches nor is there any realistic way to earn the required credits as the career mechanics or mission structure isn't fully in place to do so...tied to persistence as well no doubt. I certainly don't really care if someone buys ships from the store at the frankly nonsense prices or waits and buys one in game...there's certainly no pressure to do so and is purely down to each person individually.

One of the Calling all devs videos included a lengthy explaination by the chap/Dev who is responsible for the in game economy behind SC...what it is currently and what is intended in the longer term, certainly not to be confused by relating both as the same thing, as seems to be the currently fashionable strategy from the SC detractor's popular front...

I'd link the vid if I thought it would be of interest..but it seems that the Internet accountancy speculators popular front have taken over this thread and seem locked into lengthy discussions over spread sheet analysis and corporate finance rather than game discussion....

...All of which is marginally more exciting than the Popular front of Internet law speculators' commentary of recent times...but I'm sadly no accountant or lawyer...I just fly pixel space ships from the comfort of my Harry Potter cupboard under the stairs and make an attempt on occasion to post reasonably objective reviews on my attempts at doing so.
