I'm playing the latest 3.4.1 offering after enjoying the PTU for the last week or so...doing some mining in my newly store credit aquired putt-putt-Prospector. (Melted the Freelancer Max because...orangeness... and likeness to council bin lorry)
Quite surprised at the detail behind the mining mechanic in SC...it's well thought out even as a tier 0 implementation of the craft. It's fun for me personally, reasonably demanding skill wise and a surprisingly lucrative endeavour to boot when you gain some experience of what to blast and what's not worth the effort.
Newly added to 3.4 is the ability to mine the asteroids fields around Yela and Delamar as well as planetary rocks on every planet and moon...which yield vastly different elements and involved techniques depending on the environment/temperature etc.
Looks like I'll be a miner in SC as well as E-D then... yeah, yeah, I know you have to fork out for a Prospector to partake in the rock blasting. (I can feel the comment coming) I had the unwanted Freelancer to melt which involved no further purchases of either ships or shares. Usual disclaimers apply
A little SC mining guide from DaGaimez...
And maybe one day, when it doesn't cost hundreds of dollars to use a mining ship, maybe more people will be able to enjoy this tier 0 activity![]()
We went from ships with modularity to ship variants, because it worked better to suck money from gullible. It probably won't happen unless ship sales dry up and nothing else (like land claims assets) works.
They don't need testers they already have plenty with Evocatis (and those are bringing money, profit!)
I'm desperately trying to avoid the political slanging matches and merely posting what I see and what I do...this being the SC discussion thread an' all.
And kudos to you for doing so. I’m sad we lost Number2.
I kinda liked him. Hopefully he'll be back.
Seems Crytek have been given a three week extended deadline

Christmas holiday extension, most likely.
Yes, a nice fellow, I hope he comes back.
Off topic: Came right back with the Missus from her usual annual christmas shopping spree, not even the chaotic development of SC/SQ42 can top that!
I'm in dire need of an alcoholic beverage now, jeez. Maybe she should start equity crowdfunding too. Jesus Christ!
Yes according to Daztek on SA Crytek asked court said yes.
I utterly failed to link the post from my phone.
Shoud crowd-sauce a pint, mate.![]()

From what you said there I think you can understand that there'd be a bit of discussion about that $150 barrier to a game mechanic. For me it's more confusion than anything else. It seems a little strange to keep a piece of gameplay away from most of the players. Is the intention to keep mining an exclusive activity?
If the mining ships are something that can be earned through in-game play, how much grinding do you think it should take to earn them? A month? A week? What is 150 dollars worth of grinding?
In Elite the speed of obtaining ships gets faster as time goes by. Will Star Citizen be less prone to this happening? How would you feel if a ship you paid $150 for was obtained with just an afternoon's play?
