I'm going to archer this rant, because it's pretty spot on…

Seriously, look at this [swears] roadmap... Q2 2019...

15 tasks completed ?

For 500 people working during 3 months ?

Organic shader ? What the completley [swears] is this [swears] ? A task for a shader ? You know there are thousands of shaders in your typical game ? They made a TASK out of a SHADER ? What the...

"AI Spline Paths v2" ? That's just an iteration on a sub-component of a sub-component. It's not even the final version, mind you. Just v2. How many versions will there be ? 3 ? 4 ? 10 ? 50 ? Nobody knows. But yeah, backers are happy. It is progress !

"Player Free Look". Yep, this is high-complexity engineering requiring millions-of-dollars here guys. And how is this "free look" any different than the currently existing free look ?

"Curelife Medical Pen". Imagine the meetings, the hours with teams of dozens, that this insurmontable task must have required.

Sorry for meltdown.

I m not familar with the financial documents rules, are averages expected, total numbers for each month or can CIG basically list a briefly bloated number that was the case for a few short days out of the year?

Keep in mind that CIG's "financials" are not real financial reports. Companies generally have rules around reporting this sort of data. For example, banks often use "Full-Time Equivalent Employees" (FTEs) as a measure - but CIG is under no obligation to follow such standards.

Mind you, I don't think the numbers are too far off, but they've definitely been processed to minimize negatives and promote positives. Below are some issues that suggest a great deal of caution is warranted when looking at CIG's numbers:
  • No discussion of what exactly falls under "CIG." We know they have a bunch of shell companies and subsidiaries. You normally should report everything on a "consolidated" basis so all subsidiaries are covered.
  • The report includes the following statement: "Our auditors have reviewed these numbers and verified the approach we have taken, tracing the numbers herein to our tax returns and financial statements (the latter also being publicly filed in the UK)." This means nothing. Either the data is officially audited or it's not. Companies can release unaudited data, but you have to be audited at some point.
  • No mention of debt, debt servicing, tax impact. We know they had that Coutts loan and are scamming the UK government.
  • No mention of executive salary and compensation (including stock sales).

Obviously there are several (more or less shady) options to shine the crowdfunding tracker only on a good light:
  • Only track the additions, never the refunds
  • Count gifts granted to streamers
  • Count internal gifts as such too
  • Count ship upgrade, melting as full price funding
  • etc...

"Just lie" works well.

Looks like we're in for some fun when CR tries to pull a mutilated rabbit out of a hat later this year to raise more money. I notice he and Sandi have basically vaporized since the Forbes article. Has the CIG marketing maven even tweeted since?

Of course, CR could just be biding his time, waiting for just the right moment to burst out of Erin yelling "Surprise! I was here all along! And you thought I wouldn't make Pillar Talk. You should know better!"

Thus the true, sickening... almost Cronenberg-ian nature of "Staggered Development" is revealed.

I actually laughed out loud. :p

Someone on the SA thread posted a link to a video titled "Star Citizen: The Musical"

Note the upload date. So wholesome! Too bad all this innocent creativity (of sorts) was dedicated to Chris Roberts.

Thanks man, appreciate the insight

So once again they must be in crunch mode to make something fancy yet fake and/or another burden on their tech debt (if ever they're not in constant crush mode patches after citcons, after updates since years ). I feel for the poor people hard at work on this thing like slaves on a galley boat.

Nope, no crunch at CIG at all, period, move along citizens...

Some more rumors from TheAgent over at the SA thread:

I'm not even going to "hello" this because its p sketch, but someone has been very, very, very, VERY adamant that parts of the latest citcon demos are done with a different engine other than lumberyard/cryengine

this person was right in the past about a few things (I know the criminal gameplay thing was one, I think the animation/AI problems were others) and I don't think they work there anymore but this is so ing hilarious to me that I can barely believe it

Some more rumors from TheAgent over at the SA thread:

Does it even matter what engine those demos are done in? Because i'm pretty certain most of them are just prefabbed demos using their assets and not actually part of the running game anyway. I mean, remember the Kraken advert? Selling a fleet carreir ship when they don't have fleet carriers in game. Or sandwurmie! When the game engine had nothing like what was shown.

I found this along some unusual paths looking for sandwurmies and lulzed

Requirements

  • A minimum of 10 years’ experience creating unparalleled artwork for games and film
  • At least 5 years’ experience as a lead artist or art director
  • A genuine passion for space simulation and sci-fi
  • Proven track record of taking the initiative to solve complex problems with excellent follow through
  • Ability to collaborate in a fast-paced environment and work effectively with studios across the globe
  • Expertise in creating a unique and cohesive art style that can be shared and consistently maintained across the project
  • Experience with both 2D and 3D art pipelines
  • Ability to create and optimize art pipelines and workflows, particularly in conjunction with technical artists
  • Clear communication skills, both verbally and in writing
  • Multiple shipped AAA titles
Pluses:

  • Expertise with Lumberyard or similar (UE4/Unity)
  • Experience developing high-fidelity CG artwork for the film industry
  • Experience directing cinematics, mocap, and CG artwork for commercials
  • Strong knowledge of UI and UX
  • Avid and passionate gamer

Ahh - demands of a studio having shipped absolutely no games at all, let alone AAA ones, looking for film industry and commercial professionals - it fills the lulzbucket.

Sure it does. Lets assume that CIG is going to pitch an engine switch at some point in the future. Such a drastic move might very likely diminish whale confidence and spending behavior. But if CIG is able to provide visual examples of what to expect the reliable backers will probably be more patient seeing asRoberts made such great advances already again mistaking a marketing video with the real thing.

The remaining core of private people carrying this endeavour are already masters at mind-gymnastics. With a little "help" ("dude, did you see that video???") they certainly managed to grant SC a hard reset at which point Star Citizens development really only started in 2020 or 2021.

Even now the best things about Star Citizen which invoke atmosphere and feelings and make your skin crawl are the advertisement, hype and marketing videos....add a few fan-made videos to the mix. The actual game doesnt really hold a candle to those videos. Even the 2012 kickstarter vid shows more content and feature then the prototype in its 8th year of development has.

Marketing videos carried the project this far....I m sure it can go even longer, it just needs to look "better"

And the requirement (without irony):

Multiple shipped AAA titles

Translation: we need somebody who knows how to do it because we don't have a Scooby :p
