The one moment I really did like was the little rover buggy thing - I can see that being genuinely useful and fun - and I would like to see Elite have something comparable when FPS is introduced. Maybe not buggies - but certainly something like a walker or argocat.
David Braben did actually mention buggies in the IGN stream earlier today...
I believe they're going to go the Mass Effect route and have randomly created maps with a mission in it (derelict ship, empty station).
The most exciting prospect was the planetary exploration. I believe they're going to go the Mass Effect route and have randomly created maps with a mission in it (derelict ship, empty station).
It will be great if they do their vision of exploration right and make a focused experience I'll be happy to have two games that do exploration differently.
The racing part looked like a fun mini-game although it's not really something I'm interested in.
Multi-crew looked pretty good if a bit rough but that's to be expected.
All in all I think the presentation was pretty good despite the hiccups. The Mass Effect vibe was what I liked the most.
How will Frontier respond to that stuff? Star Citizen is in earlier development and still getting so much attention with conventions for fans and with frequent cinematic trailers.
Such as: Star Citizen - Your New Hangar!, Star Citizen - Murray Cup Trailer, RSI Constellation Fly-Around Roberts Space Industries Constellation Commercial.
Frontier doesn't release enough cinematic trailers to promote Elite Dangerous. There should be an Elite convention for fans.

SC trailers are like those pictures of mcdonalds food.
Frontier responds with actual gameplay instead of making trailers that show a gameplay experience that you'll never actually manage to experience in game.
That's kind of true. I can imagine some space-game n00b being told by his friend about this completely awesome game d00d and seeing all that cinematic glory.
Salivating, he watches more and more cinematics - drools at the sight of the ship models, craves yet one more trailer - then decides "what the hell!" and whaps out his credit card to plonk for a racer. A really nice one!
He downloads, he installs, he salivates some more, he logs on, and BEHOLD!
"Pew pew pew brrrr brrrr pew pew! You have left the gameplay area."
Still visibly shaken, he gingerly gets up and goes to McDonalds. A Big Mac will make it all go away.
