Because having more money couldn't be a problem? I have no problem with them attempting to bring in more funds, I do however has some concerns for the people throwing money at them for ships and whatnot.

The money throwing is not important anymore, but CIG still encourages it and keeps on asking for more money, like with commercials. If star cititzen fails, I will laugh at the chaos and scandals that will follow.

$410,000 / $250 = 1822, just over 1/3rd of a percent of backers. Quite reasurring viewed in that perspective. There's so much emphasis everywhere about ship sales and money levels which to my mind imply a feeling of, if you don't get onboard now and buy, buy, buy then you'll be way behind the curve.

That is exactly the intention and an attempt to appear to be a form of pseudo word of mouth which it is not given there is no game to talk about. Hence it is actually a form of hype.

No word yet on double precision so I d assume that for V9 that is a... nope. Hope Im wrong though.

I hope so too.

Lets get a summary in.

Patch 0.9 in a couple weeks or so, containing:

  • Co-op Vanduul Swarm
  • Murray Cup Racing
  • Rebindable Keys
  • 350R and M50 playable
  • Increased ship speeds
  • 6DOF
  • Improved sound effects
  • Leaderboards
  • Play with friends via friendcodes
New hangars. Switching from tiers to in-lore variety and having everyone able to choose which hangar they want is a great move. We'll have:

  • Self Land, grungy (ex Discount Hangar)
  • AeroView, futuristic (ex Business Hangar)
  • Revel & York, luxury (ex Deluxe Hangar)
  • VFG Industrial, asteroid
+ Constellation variants
+ Multi-crew ship demo
+ FPS teaser

Not bad at all...C:

Quite an impressive list of features added in a short time. I guess they pulled their finger out

Speaking as non backer. Can I ask a question? In order to play the PU enjoyably and I stress enjoyably, do you think its going to be necessary to grab one of the bigger ships? I look at the base ship and it looks like a torpedo in comparison and with so many backers having the bigger ships from the get go, it looks to me like this game potentially to play and enjoy is actually going to be a money pit.

Well, you should be able to earn the credits to buy them in game in either cases, no?

Agreed, I know I can earn the credits eventually but its the game experience in doing so that concerns me. I guess in PU I find out.

It boils down to this question; just how onerous and long term will it be to earn enough credits? If its unreasonable so, then even if technically you can earn the credits, the game is for all intents and purposes p2w.

There are already many examples of games out like this.

actually it still is, due to the vertical slice development and the feature creep IMHO they need A LOT MORE money then initially planed.

its no coincidence CR altered his argumentation that 50million crowdfunded dollars equall about 200-250 million publisher funded dollars to 50 million dollars are 50 million dollars and as gta cost 300 million, SC needs that too.

I'm expecting they will make it as grindy as possible, so people will get bored and end up buying UEC for real money / buying ships to shortcut the grind.

would mean their whole game is boring ... (never understood people who pay cash to overcome the "grind" when all they will face afterwards is more of the same "grind" cause thats the game they play ...)

I guess it's a balancing act. I think you need to have a certain amount of "grind" so that you feel accomplished being able to earn your next tier of ship. I think there's a lot of satisfaction in that. I found that in E:D, trading up to the next new ship, although boring doing the same thing for ages, you feel like you got somewhere when you had to earn it.

I also don't understand buying everything at the start - you're gonna get bored pretty quick if you have everything already.

It boils down to time more than what might prove to be a very subjective definition of grind.

If for example it takes 10 hours a week for 1 year to earn enough money to buy a connie then it is p2w regardless for me at least.

It Must be quite the immersion breaker buying in game credits using real monies, I would hate play a game like that, especially a game that has its own economic structure which is based on earning a virtual living, all to be thrown away with a quick dollar/sterling 'top up'.

I take it you haven't played Planetside 2 ?

Granted it's not in space but it has a simple mechanic of multi-crew ships with hundreds of players on one huge seamless map. It works freaking awesomely.

Those multi-seat vehicles exist in many games, e.g. Battlefield, Planetside, Arma, etc.

But what makes multi-crew ships exciting in Star Citizen is the fact that all the interiors are fully modeled, crew members can run the ship and have to operate different stations from their perspective.

You mean:

"Use the force Luke! Trust your feelings! Alternative use your credit card to hurry up and buy a better targeting computer and get on with it"

Which is great for immersion but completely irrelevant for gameplay since you'll probably just sit on a turret or a cockpit.
Having FPS combat on a ship is a long time in the future but if they get it right it'll be great fun.
I've no idea how the engine will handle something like this though.

crew members can run the ship and have to operate different stations from their perspective.

They need to make this matter gameplay-wise and that's the hard part.
It's ok showing the medic sitting on a seat in the cinematic, but what's her role? What will she do? Why would she sit in that seat?
It needs complicated interactive gameplay and I doubt CIG will go in that direction.
It's very far away though so let's hope I'll be pleasantly surprised.
