The Star Citizen Thread V2.0

Well I really wouldn't know the finer details (which is why I said "what we appear to have") as the joystick control still feels so awful I can't get into it.

Still I'm sure we can all agree SC will (almost certainly) have more polygons so yay!

It wasn't my quote ;) Trash did something when replying which messed up the quoting so it now says I posted what he posted - LOL

I know what he was saying though, and he is right that the ship will bank when turning(yawing) at higher speeds - just not the same way as my experience where roll & yaw were happening at the same time, even when at rest, and that was down to control config (which I tried to set up manually, but borked it because they've changed the way control schemes inherit from each other)

I was getting the 'exact' same effect as you get in X-Wing/Tie-Fighter and StarLancer but much much faster.
As a note, in those older games, the rate of turn is directly proportional to your throttle (i.e. higher throttle - faster turn), in AC, it's just very fast turn no matter what. I found it uncontrollable with my Warthog.

I know - spotted the messed up quoting - I was replying to him...

Cool - everything is rosy in the garden :D

Just waiting for news now on the next patch so I can properly bind controls, and perhaps extract some fun out of the game.

I know I can change response curves for the stick axes using the Thrustmaster TARGET software, so I can live without that aspect being in-game on the next release.

Yeah but they will have at least the basic ground FPS part, right?

Yeah, you'll get to walk around the docking area, enter a bar, weapons store, etc. but nothing more.
Planetary exploration is a bit bigger undertaking for CIG, maybe they'll consider it at $100M.

Just wanted to pop by and say thanks to everyone for how this thread is going. Much more civil and friendly.

My headache is nearly gone and I've almost stopped twitching. :D

See, We don't just come in here to moan. :D

A guy on the SC forums thinks that Blizzard's Titan was cancelled because of Star Citizen.

I still have an awkward fearful grin on my face.

why not? star citizen is nearly the complete opposite of a typical millenium era blizzard game thats: comic look, gamey bunny gummi, colourful for kids, mmo repetitive grind, no mechanical skill, you get it..

star citizen shows that theres still a market for the opposite thing, and maybe blizzard also sometimes likes some other games - so they said, hey why are we doing the 9th iteration of comic grind? maybe lets think outside the box?

maybe star citizen just gave them the little extra to rethink ... i doubt though its the real reason ^^

its the market change.. now we have millions of 11 year olds playing free games and esporting and a handful older guys playing sims and stuff, and the middle aged teens and twens with FPS Games and hype games..

I doubt they come up with a space sim game, but - well lets see what their next project is up to. I just hope its not some other MMO grindfest

Quite a presumptuous statement, and just don't narrow your vision of Blizzard through the WoW prism only please... And all of this is quite off-topic.

AFAIK:
- it has been rumoured for quite a while that the game wasn't working (gameplay).
- the title had been in development for around *7* years, and yet it had never reached a stage that Blizzard felt comfortable showing to outsiders.
- Activision just launched a ~$500m space shooter franchise in Destiny... does Activision really want to release a AAA F2P competitor to their own franchise?

Titan was cancelled for reasons internal to Blizzard/Activision. Hopefully any 'good ideas' from the project live on in their next endeavour.

I just used the qote button :S
Hmm I am re-playing I-war 2 atm and find it much better than AC although it has similar fast turn rates when watching the total time.

The difference is in I-War the pivoting takes longer to accelerate, while in AC it pretty much jumps to max speed instantly.

The result in I-War is a much "weightier" feeling I enjoy far more than AC.

Btw I am not to fond of the automatic banking, would have prefered to have that be done manually and be more efficient than than pure yaw aswell as pure pitch :(

No worries, forum software can play up from time to time - it happens.

As for I-War, yes, there is a definite feeling of inertia, and though the maximium turn rates are fast, it takes a bit of time to reach them, and slow down again.

I think the automatic banking in AC is a bit of a left-over from Freelancer (which did something similar), and is more for 'looks' rather than anything else - i.e. it looks cooler, and goes some way to give the impression that some roll is involved in turning, even though your actual turn is a plain yaw across the x axis.
From a flight model point of view, I seem to remember someone saying that the bank was required so that more thrusters can take part in the yawing maneuver, making it faster and causing less drift. This seems to make some sense from a physics point of view - but is it fun?

So remember when SC was going to have planet exploration, and how CIG sold a ship with a ground car? Well it turns out that ground exploration will not happen in Version 1 of launch.

Sorry this is going to be a little OT. But just wow, so turns out that we didn't just back SC we backed a funding system from CR.

Making you the next crowdfunding star citizen

The community and virtuous funding cycle Roberts has created for the game wouldn't be possible without the proprietary fundraising service Roberts' team built. Now, given the service's success, he's planning to offer a platform to other entrepreneurs who want to bypass traditional crowdfunding sites that can gather and collect contributions, integrate a community and—if it's an evolving software product—act as the place to get the most recent downloads. In essence, a hub for the entirety of the project, from campaign to shipped product.

"We're actually in the process of setting up a separate entity to deal with [licensing our platform]," Roberts said. It's vertically integrated—built around a single campaign, though not necessarily gaming—whereas most crowdfunding platforms are designed to handle many different types of projects, but only in the fundraising aspect.

Something for the German speakers

http://www.star-citizen-news-radio.de/2014/09/mera-luna-und-stardust-hoeren-auf-cu-in-the-verse/

And the discussion thread.

Sad day for the German SC fans. As the SCNR did a lot of work translating SC news/media into German for the fans.

Wow, that brought out the community toxicity at its best. Hope CIG releases some FPS stuff soon to soothe the spirits and make the proper use of the Cryengine.
