I'll give you three off the top of my head, there are many more around for sure.

Rimworld developer shares an open changelog for the game development, updated almost daily.

Rust developer shares everything they are working on.

Amplitude studios has design discussion forums that help shape all their games, issues get voted on and dev implement features that are most needed by direct feedback from players.

Open development isn't new.
The only difference is that CIG has attracted so much hype with SC that now even people that have slept under a rock the last 5 years know that open development actually exists.

Oh, and we forgot the most important one. Limit Theory. Technically the guy puts out more development vids and updates than even CIG, per capita. (Considering there's only one person working on the game.)

Guess I forgot to imply a High Quality High Fidelity High Scope kind of game....

Making a game of SC quality and releasing this kind of info is unprecedented, SC revealed more stuff than all of those examples combined, its not even a contest, just the design of a ship like the Idris alone is more complex/work than most of those one-dimensional games!

So, you love CIG's lack of imagination and copying of RL aircraft.
Thanks for helping me understand you better.

LoL I dont feel that CIG needs to reinvent the wheel every time they design a ship! They fit the lore and the purpose for each role. Military Ship? Nailed it!

Want some unconvencional ships stuff look no further than the alien ships.

So when are the backers going to get that "high quality"? Because so far CIG have yet to release any high quality work. Now PR buzzwords like what you just spit out in your post they do all the time, and constantly. You are right, no one hype's their game like CIG does, even have a weekly show about how amazing they are, if only CIG could produce quality work.

I knew you were gonna come with arbitrary goals to not have to admit to anything.
You always move the goalposts whenever you see fit.
Might as well say that SC doesn't really count because it's not a strategy game, hows that for arbitrary rules?

Just because they have millions of dollars to waste on polygons doesn't make their game so much more important.

Limit Theory, that Sylvester Ink mentioned, is a good example of how to show real progress in development. Josh Parnel may only produce videos each month, but you do get a sense that he's working hard on it. That can be seen from watching them from the first one. The development is quite impressive when you look at them. Even with the non-visual technical improvements he makes. That passion he has for it is clear to hear in his voice-overs for them. It's genuine, intelligent, and not overhyped.

On the flip side of that, companies can easily create alot of info over nothing. Transverse is a good example of that.

Guess you forgot that those are all buzzwords that don't mean anything.

Implying that any of the mentioned projects are less than high quality is downright insulting to the developers making those games. All the examples I mentioned are not only putting out quality work, but follow quality development practices.

The other two don't mean anything, but I'll tell you some things that DO mean something. Both PA and LT were written entirely from scratch (including the engines) during the same amount of time SC has been in development. And both of these engines are fairly revolutionary in their own right.

All the while, both development teams (especially Josh Parnell) have posted JUST AS MANY updates and reveals as CIG has, if not more.

They have also had much more community involvement. Me and several other Linux users personally traded emails with the development team discussing the best ways to implement PA for Linux users.

Don't be so quick to make assumptions about these things.

Until CIG releases a high quality flight model with engaging dogfights, as it was advertised in the beginnings, it will be regarded as a failed project to me. That's without mentioning consequences for tricking the original backers over.
All those polys mean nothing when you start flying and your enemies look like demented flies on the screen.

No, Russians nailed it. They copied it.

Sci-fi has a tradition of copying ship designs from other places. If you are going to copy something, the SU47 is a sweet choice!

That's half a million game packages...

...of which I have two. Others, as some have mentioned, have many more.

Yeah I mean, I would not be surprised if the actual number of people of those 500k was less than half that. For instance I have multiple game packages under different names :p

I'd also like to see more exotic, weird ships in Elite Dangerous. The Thargoids must have very odd alien ships.

The ship models in Elite will be updated in the future. So the graphical detail won't differ much in about 2 years.

Will Elite have first-person combat like this Star Citizen FPS Pax Australia Reveal? I guess it will be possible with the first person expansion for walking around stations, ships and on planets.

Elite will basically have all the features that SC will have but done through expansions. So far the biggest difference between the two is SC supports groups formally with tools and Elite does not, Elite is more about you and your ship vs the vast universe.

Bad SF has the afore mentioned tradition.

So do you think Elite was bad sci-fi then?, seeing as more than a few of the ships there were heavily inspired by the wedge design first pioneered (to my knowledge) by the Star Wars star destroyer, not to mentioned the Thargoid ship which had basically the most cliched of all space ship designs (basically a flying saucer).

Hey look, a straw man! Meanwhile...

I got my Oculus yesterday and boy, it is a game changer. If SC wants to be worth anything in a couple of years they need to start developing for it ASAP or their gazillion polygons will mean nothing and it will be ancient, 2D history when released. I saw the future and it's true 3D!

I need to get more wealth... Currently the thought of a rig capable of running a commercial Rift seens pretty distant...
