2 guys alone can't pull off those videos all by themself. I am quite sure that a lot of developers were involved.

Of course they are. I remember reading a jump point about the making one of the videos (I think it was for the Connie), these things take a lot of planning, participation and manpower/hours to come out.

Been playing titanfall again and wonder if there will be titans in SC? :D

Now to all seriousness will there be any kind of android or ai in game that is not just a voice and that it has a use for us the player? I mean other than been an npc

Sorry that i do not take a statement coming from CIG as a completely trustworthy source. I mean my point is that CIG is putting far too much energy into those ads instead of concentrating on delivering a playable game since they are very much interested in selling more ships. So if my thought is right they will of course not reveal the real developement time of those ads and claim that those ads are merely a by-product of the game to assure the backers that the game is at the verge of getting delivered. But we all know from the past that CIG is very much focused on delivering a positive image from their company therefore they like to
- blame the players if they don't like the flight model (or ignore it completely)
- be silent about very important team memebers leaving the team
- be completely wrong about their time estimations on releases of alphas, betas, ...

Therefore i do not trust CIG so much. I could see 2 people doing it only if they are supported by all the other developers.
As we have seen in the past CIG's main presentations are based on those ads/commercials since they have very limited playable demos. Therefore i am sure they put a lot of effort in those ads. Not admitting it would simply fit in that image i personally have from CIG.

But hey, i am open to get positively surprised by them in the future. Not very impressed at the moment.

As far as titans go, CIG has mentioned that there will be 9 different levels of suits, with the highest one being essentially a mech suit, but not quite titan sized (the example given is that of the power loader from aliens). (source)

The "of course they are" part of the comment went to the "there are a lot of developers participating" part. As I said, making those videos is a very involved process, as we have seen in one of the Jump Point magazines.

the gladius is a very beautiful ship (finally a nice one)

Gladius-img-star-citizen.jpg

what i don't understand is:

why bigger ships (like the redeem) have landing gears with tyres and this one doesn't ?
it should be the exact contrary ! o_O

Ok, thanks for the clarification.

hey chaps - disclaimer: i'm not trying to provoke an ED v SC style debate here as it's futile and frankly childish. I'm aware of the basic differences each of projects has and that the scope for each game is different in many ways.

I'm just trying to figure out how/why SC's game model is so expensive? I love the look of some of the ships, the engine is brilliant and i'd be quite excited to try it out before it's 'proper' release in a few years, but if i'm correct in saying - each individual ship is £100+ (some being way, way more) and there's no way of flying them right now?

I'm just trying to understand why people have bought into this? As far as I can see, the game is separated into a few small modules, and you can't actually fly the ships you've paid for anyway. Does anyone not think this is slightly barking? There's no flying (beyond Arena Commander which seems like an arcadey side distraction released only to prove to backers that they have a flight model of some description), no trading, no gameplay in a unified game world that I can see yet. It seems like investing money into the development process (which as a back of ED I can totally get behind), on the promise of a game appearing sometime in the near future. Star Citizen is a brand new franchise, albeit spiritiually grounded in the wing commander/freelancer etc lore, but still - the level of fanaticism present in not just buying the things that don't exist yet, but defending the things that don't exist yet seem absolutely mad. Like star wars/trek kinda crazy.

I just watched a youtube video of a guy walking around these virtual spaceships in a hanger, talking about what they might do in the future - then worked out that he must've spent over 5000 usd to purchase access to walking around these ships in a hanger, I'm trying to get my head around why people want to do this for a videogame?

Maybe someone on this thread can enlighten me? I'd post this on a SC board but i'd never be able to extinguish the flames! Again, i'm just trying to understand the model behind it because the official trailers/explanation videos with chris roberts seem very hopeful/slick, but low on actual facts. The idea of the game is brilliant, and if i'm honest something that i've always dreamed about in a game - the ability to go and do anything in space. From what i've seen, ED seems to be fulfilling part of that promise, or at least the majority of it - at a much cheaper cost.

To be honest your entire post is basically built on a number of flawed assumptions, which even a minimum of research would have made clear quite easily.

Each individual ship is NOT £100+, the cheapest package (package being a ship plus the game), is $30, if you wan't alpha access you will have to pay an extra $5, for a total of $35. Presumably access to the remaining 3 modules (FPS, planetside and PU) will also cost $5 each, bringing the total to $50. That is of course assuming you didn't pledge when there was still alpha slots available, since then alpha would be free.

Like star wars/trek kinda crazy.

Saying that pledging money to CIG is "like investing money into the development process on the promise of a game appearing sometime in the near future" is really stating the obvious, since that is the exact premise behind every single kickstarter/crowdfunded project in existence.

I just watched a youtube video of a guy walking around these virtual spaceships in a hanger, talking about what they might do in the future - then worked out that he must've spent over 5000 usd to purchase access to walking around these ships in a hanger, I'm trying to get my head around why people want to do this for a videogame?

You could ask the same thing of multiple other things, e.g. why do people buy Ferraris when a volvo will get them from A to B just as well, why do people by expensive clothes when cheap ones will keep them warm just as well. The simple answer is, because they derive pleasure from doing so. Now I'll gladly admit that I don't understand how anyone could derive pleasure from spending thousands of dollars on virtual goods, but the simple fact is that they do (or they wouldn't keep spending money, one would presume).

Maybe someone on this thread can enlighten me? I'd post this on a SC board but i'd never be able to extinguish the flames! Although this isn't really relevant for your post as a whole, I though I should probably point out that ED is actually more expensive versus a base version of SC.

It is also highly misleading. Frontier are not selling power. CIG are. Aside from the kickstarter rewards, and the small perks for the Mercenary Edition, everybody in Elite starts from the bottom (or very near it). Nobody has the option to buy a tooled up Anaconda, the way you can buy an Idris in SC. So yes, you can buy an Aurora package (and buy the various modules like Arena Commander) but you'll be starting at a way worse position than in Elite with your sidewinder.

This point is simply false... CIG patched AC to a state where the flight and combat model is fun... Sure, a lot of the complex systems are not released/implemented yet, but the gameplay is fine... Even if you prefer a WW2 + 6DOF flight model and don't play AC at all (or own it), you should accept this little fact.

Well, the Redeemer is a fan designed ship and most other ships don't have tires (300i, Avenger, Redeemer are the only ships with tires).

I don't find it fun.
I still think there's way too much turreting to make it feel challenging.

I'm waiting until they finally decide how they want to make their flight model and then I'll decide if I'll play it or not.
No point in getting frustrated about things they might change.

I think AC will get more challenging when they finally release AC 1.0 with the radar/signature/heat system and a lot of components/items added... You would finally have a reason to do micromanagement. A "hardcore"/"Last Ship Flying" (one-life) mode would be cool, too.
