The Star Citizen Thread v5

because I (naively) want unbiased "information" about the game, that's why I pop into the thread every so often, but it's like a bunch of 18 year olds in the pub for the first time getting rat       and spouting nonsense.

Believe it or not I want the meaningful criticism, but it's just getting a bit silly, and as I said (despite getting a warning from mods for some reason) a pointless thread.

Sorry LM - I don't think there is anywhere you'll get an unbiased opinion of SC. On the RSI site it's all rainbows and stuff (but it's getting better recently) and here it's the opposite. I guess we vent a bit of frustration here. Reddit is slightly better than RSI forums, but not a lot. Best idea is to try the free fly (open 'till the end of the month I think) and decide.

If you have difficulty finding 'unbiased information' about SC, I have to suggest that the problem is with the 'citizens', who systematically stifle any criticism of the game wherever they can. If they weren't so obsessed with censoring anything that didn't agree with their over-hyped fantasies, there would be little need for this thread to exist.

Tbh, the silliness is directly proportional to the state of the project, and the criticism reflects that.
CIG has made a silly silly thing, and any critique will therefore forcibly have to veer off into the realm of the absurd to cope.

The thread moves quickly and meaningful advances in SC are very slow. The Flight Model is supposedly being tuned in a patch that only the Avocados have access to.

The Fabled 3.0 patch which was vaunted to have Networking 2.0, is not released and has no firm release beyond Q1 2017.

The next main patch 2.6 which was described as being focused on the re-introduction of Star Marine is not even with the Avocados yet, so is getting less likely by the week to be released before year end.

So, if you know the state of the game from 2.5, there is nothing new to critique. Citcon showed no tangible Sq42 content, only a demo video to showcase some assets and principles of using a CryEngine map to pretend they had a complete PG planet with full freedom of movement.
The game continues to produce some very interesting graphical assets, but very little in the way of defined progress outside of demos; which appear to be designed to present concept as "just over the brow of the hill" content.

There is no unbiased information about the *future* updates of SC project. There's only what CIG has told everyone - those bits can be found on news sites around internet - and some speculations from Derek and others. As for current state it is easy to pick up free to fly demo at this point and try it out yourself.

Forums are by definition a bit pointless. I enjoy reading both positive and negative posts about SC here. I find all this a bit silly, there's small part of me that hopes maybe, just maybe something comes and surprise us in the end.

There is no such thing of "unbiased" information. If you really believe on that, you are the one playing the "less than 18" here.

By the way... you shouldn't dismiss the opinion of people with less than 18. Specially when you are making or willing to promote... you know... a game.

Believe it or not, there's a reason why things are as they are.
No one here was immediately critical of the game when they first announced it.
Some of us actually supported it, but in the meantime, things went sideways.

Just take a look at this, unfinished list, that Stigbob did, and think for yourself: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?p=4675071&viewfull=1#post4675071

It's not directly Star Citizen news but is kind of cool and I support their job so (and there's not much else to talk about)

Voice Attack really transformed Elite for me (largely because I like to play in VR, which makes it hard to find all the keys). I tend to alternate between the Norman Lovett and Brian Blessed HCS voice packs, but they're not free sadly.

Does this thread serve any purpose other than ridiculing the game, Chris Roberts and those backing the game?

Well, posts congratulating them on their innovative content and coding prowess are thin on the ground, but there is a reason for that... I think it's safe to say everyone here is a fan of the genre, and there are a few SC backers: Watching CIG lie on their backs with legs in the air like an overturned turtle isn't particularly fun to watch because it's one less game for us to play, but what else can we do?

Star Citizen is like the England football squad: It doesn't matter how enthused you are by the possibilities, or how much you wave the flag, sooner or later you're going to end up making jokes and wondering exactly what you got for those millions of pounds.

Well put. It's attracting too much unwarranted cynicism considering everything's going so swimmingly.

As terrible as this is, is it really fair to bring it up in a discussion about Star Citizen? I mean sure, you might say "look at the kind of people Star Citizen attracts" but that's a bit unfair - there's a bad egg in every fanbase isn't there?

It's got nothing to do with being "fair". It's a pattern. That's why the mention wasn't exclusive to that one person.

Shouldn't his name be unknown until there's a conviction?

No. He's not a minor. And you did see his name in the news report, right? Also, it's in the public court record. And since he wasn't yet convicted, that's why I used "alleged" because everyone deserves the notion that is "Innocent until proven guilty".
