The Star Citizen Thread v5

Im interested in knowing about the scope star citizen. Has there been any talks about downsizing the scope of the game?
Lets just face it I think star citizens scope currently is bit too big, the game would be done in 20 years if it keeps its scope. Theres no money for 20 years of continued development and the engine is already showing its age (then theres the fact that code will keep getting messier each year). The question is what features would the CIG be willing to cut ?
No way I'm touching that with anyone's barge pole, out here on foreign turf :D

Your right it was bit too specific question that could get you into trouble sorry about that. Others are free to give their opinions on that. Hell if someone would dare to ask that question in RSI forums things might look more positive, at least for the future of the project.

next question do you miss brabens clear design goals? Chris kinda comes to me as a person who hasnt really thought things trough. Its pretty clear when you watch braben Chris interview. (btw its great watch i highly recommend it)
The only thing i felt chris being better at was understanding kickstarters monetization

I know you are not involved with networking. However, have you heard how networking is currently approached? Is it also left in it's current (broken, verbose) state until it can be replaced by a rewritten network implementation?

Chris Roberts spoke about an MVP (minimum viable product) which is basically the least acceptable level of quality you can legally get away with. MVP's don't win awards or break new ground they perform the required functions just enough to keep your money and absolutely nothing more.

Supermarket own brand budget sandwiches are MVP's.

As someone who has to hold his tongue even on restricted access social media due to the industry that his employer is in I can completely understand! :) I was banned from talking to clients at one point but that's another story...

Still, always good to get the scooby from folks in the know.

Really? I mean.. are you serious? Even IF that was true, do you really think that Ben would answer something like that? CR doesn't have a better understanding of monetization, Sandi do. Way better. Chris is better with stylish spaceships, overall lore and how to sell his ideas

Wife's do that by nature, you do know that right? RIGHT??

I have to admit: Derek Smart is very good at what he does (except in making games)
The guy put together a lot of crap in an really loudly manner and then he adds obviously deductions, half-truths, a pinch of name droppings and voi-la! Instant internet prophet, savior of the weak, guardian of truth

He was absolutely right about the new TOS.

10 for the Developers: Episode 14

TLDR
[0:54] Q: How do you go about creating a star system? Who is responsible for what steps?A: It starts with the the whole Lore team together deciding the kind of system, kind of planets, number of planets, cool science things, gameplay features, etc. Dave Haddock has the final say then Cherie writes up the spec and passes it to the astronomers who produce all the astronomical data and math (they may also suggest cool things like dead stellar cores). Chere checks the system is still to spec and then Lore works with designers and tech artists to get the data in game. Design and Chris Roberts have the final, final say.
[4:25] Q: Plans for a Hornet visual pass?
A: Yes along with the 300i, Aurora and Cutlass Black to include damage states and “whatnot”.
[6:51] Q: What kind of sizes are we looking at for star systems in Star Citizen overall?
A: Well we have to strike a balance between fiction and reality so having systems incredibly large isn’t possible because of technology limits, but we take inspiration from real systems. So on average we will have systems between 5 and 15AU, however they can be much larger than those at times within reason of course.
[9:11] Q: What concept ship are you most excited about seeing enter the pipeline in the future?
A: Forrest: RSI Polaris because it’s big, chunky, slick, well mechanically engineered. Bigger than a Connie, but smaller than an Idris.
[10:24] Q: Next ships expected hangar ready?
A: Reliant(2.4 released before this video came out) Caterpillar down the road and in the later year Herald.
[13:24] Q: Has the organizing been caught up? Most old stuff archived? Any gems you found that you questioned why it wasn’t in game yet?
A:

  • Cherie has caught up on most of the organisations
  • They are much, much, much better off now than when they started
  • Forrest may have been responsible for much of the mess in the artists' section
  • Cherie has archived over 2000 pages (preserved but excluded from search)
  • Current documentation is organised by team or asset depending on requirements
  • Cherie monitors and moderates which a) prevents Forrest from reviving archived pages and b) means Cherie is able to help people find what they are looking for
  • Cherie has found some cool things in the game documentation but can't talk about them
[19:25] Q: How is work on the Galactapedia progressing? Look/feel of the system being designed and can it be accessed in game or from the website?
A: Very close to releasing a bare bones very soon. The Starmap is the cornerstone of the Galactapedia and they’re starting by defining all in-lore terms in the Starmap. Can be accessed through the Starmap and a UI like the website. Turbulent has already made some mock ups(subject to change) for it.
[21:19] Q: Character creation pipeline, what will we be able to change on our future citizens? Any hood/mask designs instead of traditional helmets?
A: So while the tech for customisation is still very much in development, you will be able to reconstruct your face, customise it and your clothes. Height is something that’s a big technical hurdle for down the road as CryEngine animations weren't built to scale, but we will eventually tackle it. As far as Hood/mask designs for helmets I think you’ll be excited to see what we have planned for down the road.
[25:33] Q: Will there be a Loremaker’s Guide for every system? Any holes in the Galactapedia that required more lore? Have you written any lore?
A:

  • They do intend to cover every system in the same way as they are currently.
  • Cherie has written some of the descriptions in the Starmap including the moons in Terra and Caliban and some lore that is yet to be released.
  • There are systems that aren't fully developed and some systems yet to be created.
  • There is a black hole in Tamsa.
  • Cherie's favourite stars are red dwarves but she also likes nebulae, galaxies, black holes, cool diamond planets, that our solar system is so unusual, that so many exoplanets are being discovered and that there's so much left to discover.
[29:46] Q: Will there be a new skybox?
A: No, because we have procedural skies now. What we want to figure out if it’s possible to have the time of day correlate to the planet's position to the nearest star so one side is night and the other is day based off the actual star and not imaginary lighting, but that’s a long ways off.

He was absolutely right about the new TOS.

Are you surprised that they would change the TOS after all the Drama?
This is exactly what i was saying, "obvious deduce". Then he adds all that crap and and some people take that unique thing he is right about as proof that all others craps are right

No what I mean is he was right about when they would change it, he was right about how they would change it and he was right about why they would change it.

No game, no refunds. He's right.

Who cares? Honestly.

The fact is the terms of service is intentionally unlawful, essentially forcing people who wish to pursue refunds to jump through legal hoopla.
It's the level of shady you expect to see from some social pay 2 win inde- developer.

So yeah, I am very surprised.

Again, after all that drama, are you surprised?

Did you actually read new TOS?
Do you feel happy when someone steal your legal rights?
That TOS is absolute disrespect and slap in the face to the all ppl. that invest their money and time by backing this"Con-artist"for all this years...
