I wasn't sure if this was in X-Wing, as well, but in TIE Figther I really like the ability to boost my weapons capacity at a sacrifice to my current shield strength and vice versa. Adds that extra little decision that could mean winning or losing.

There was also that one mission where one of the secret objectives was to catch a totally-not-the-Millennium-Falcon-honestly YT1300 fleeing at surprisingly high speed while filled with “rebel officers” — unless you managed your engine and ion cannon power perfectly, you had no chance in hell of ever catching up and disabling the ship before it was gone.

This sort of stuff really grinds my gears. If true, that makes them no better than human traffickers importing people into slave labour and holding their passports until they pay their "debt" off. It's funny how businesses will talk big about economics and no free lunches but then turn around and ask employees to work for no pay.

Well we are all modern corporate slaves.....as soon as we merge our name&face with the number&picture of company ID we become slaves my friend...it´s just depend how our masters going to treat us....

By the way, that triangular display of shield/engine/weapon power reminds me of the second Independence War, so there's another game that borrowed ideas from Chris Roberts.

I like it when a release of what CIG has promised (or scheduled as a release) can be called a nice Christmas 'Surprise' :D

I think they have worn us down so much, that when they deliver something on time it is viewed as something so awesome that it is seen as a miracle. This is amazing marketing - when they miss targets it's all "yeah... CIG aren't good at deadlines...", But if they hit them it's "OMG!!!1! Best game developer EVA!!! "

CIG have managed to lower our expectations so much over the years that we will be thankful for whatever scraps they manage to throw us... :D

I just want to try out the new flight model - if it comes before Christmas then that'd be nice, at least then I will know if I am going to bother with the thing any more......

Your understanding of the word 'slave' and 'employee' is lacking. When you are ever confused about the difference: one of them gets paid and can leave voluntarily, the other is unpaid and cannot leave.

Seriously, comparing having a job with being a slave is ignorant and not funny.

To be fair, corporate slavery has always meant stuck in the rat race, slave to the machine/establishment etc. I don't think there was any intention to imply that psuedo-slavery was at all equivalent to forced slavery.

He responded to someone explicitly equating breaking licensing fees with human trafficking and slave labour. :p

A.K.A. not slavery ;)

Well...We are led to believe that we live in a free economy, and have the right to choose both our profession and employer. If you examine how our economy works, you will find that corporations in a capitalistic society are not very different from the slave owners of the earlier generations....but I know it´s easier and more satisfying feeling to believe that we are actually free.....so...we should get back to the topics before we get "whipped"by the mods...:D

You might wanna consider the possibility that you're confusing "having social obligations as a part of being successful in a society of multiple millions of people" with "having no free will or ability to make decisions for yourself".

The freedom you're hinting at only exists when you head out into some uninhabited place to create your own little one-man-society.

Or when you play the BDSSE when it finally comes out and allows you to do everything you could ever imagine and more... :D
Awwwyes, thinly veiled attempt at keeping on topic

That's like calling hamburgers 'modern day rat poison'. Words have a meaning, and an employee is not a slave. You can walk out your cubicle any minute and go in any direction you please. That's a luxury slaves couldn't (and can't, slavery still very much exists!) ever dream of.

"But then how can I afford a HOTAS and broadband internet to play my space game in the 16 hours a day I am not in the office?'

That's a question only someone who is the exact opposite of a slave would say. Slavery is not having freedom. Calling yourself a slave because you have a job is being too scared to use your freedom, and too entitled to call it what it is.

Exactly. Refusing to grow up and take some responsibility doesn't equal freedom, just like having a job doesn't equal slavery.

No, it does not. There have never been more slaves on this planet than today. And I mean real slaves, not the for them unatainnable luxury you call slavery.
