"But Roberts reassured: "I'm not worried, because even if no money came in, we would have sufficient funds to complete Squadron 42nd The revenue from this could in turn be used for the completion of Star Citizen.""

So not enough funding anymore for SC as is.

This is ridiculous if true, and subject to the offered translation being accurate. SQ42 future revenues are obviously NOT guaranteed, but that is by the by.

For the life of me I can not understand how reasonable backers can not just realize the implications of this statement and say enough is enough, based on the whole history of statements from CR assuring the whole project was already funded. Now it is just SQ42 that is?

How is this not news already in other game press media?

The project was confirmed as fully funded, as per Kickstarter and as per Stretch Goals. It is perhaps time for CR to get on with it. If he overspent or overreached and still needs further funds then he should announce it explicitely, plain and clear, with actual transparency, for the whole community to realize it, be aware and be able to take properly informed decisions without the influence of communications subterfuge and spin. Amazing.

So far I was mostly in the "SC is not a scam, just some very incompetent people" but this is really evolving more and more into actual scam and misleading advertising.

It *always* turns into scam territory when incompetent people still think they got this and can continue to lie/push fake release dates. That's how they reconfirm for themselves they will be able to finish it.

Not all scams are deliberate you know.

Oh my, I might have been used to it for a while now, but it's still painfully hilarious to see how everything seems improvised on the fly without any forethought...

"yes, you'll have day & night cycle.", months later "hey, maybe we'll need planet rotation and probably orbits?"
"ships have doors", months later "hey, maybe we'll need locks?"
"you'll play with thousands players", months later "hey, maybe we'll need more landing pads? Maybe we'll need landing procedure? Maybe we'll need a way to park them to avoid spawning from nowhere, prevent theft, prevent landing pad saturation? Maybe we'll need AI flight control?" And guess what: I'm pretty sure they don't know how cargo containers will get from warehouses to landing pads...

You can boil the method down to stretch goals frenzy time: everything looks barely brainstormed as it's sold, let alone confronting each feature against the others to test feasibility and interdependent consequences, let alone plan costs and time.

Flick of a switch...

Let me just repeat that last line:

Having the game at the end is just a cherry on top.

Yes, comic sans, because that comment totally deserves it.

Well, he has a point.

The whole misadventure of CIG/RSI and all the other holding companies, the game that could be everything to everyone, the "open" development that keeps backers in the dark (despite subscribers paying for the open communication specifically), "refactoring", the apparent lack of any design and development methodology, the failure to pin down a feature list, the evident squandering of backers' money on mo-cap reshoots because they keep changing the script, the marketing machine that has run out of control and continues to aggressively sell (.jpg) dreams that the company must know it can't deliver....

The whole horrible mess is so entertaining to watch, that the game that may or may not eventually be released won't be half as much fun as the process of getting there. I spend a lot of time watching Star Citizen videos and reading forums like this just because it is so entertaining. It's the journey that matters....

When they make a film of The Making of Star Citizen (I think there's a stretch goal for that?), perhaps they could get Ricky Gervais to play the hapless chairman.

The worst part is that there will be probably a large segment of hard core fans that are fully aware this is the case and understand the gravity of the statement, but that just prefer to help in the obfuscation and support the ilusion in the hope that the funding continues or that SQ42 can indeed finance SC one day.

I wonder what (if any…) market analysis has been done to even remotely support the notion that SQ42 could finance the release of SC. I wonder what (if any…) financing and cost analysis has been done to figure out the individual costs of SQ42 and SC, and concluding that $140M is enough to cover all of the former, and maybe some of the latter, and then calculating how much more is needed for full SC. I wonder what (if any…) thought had gone into the assumption that $65M would be sufficient to complete both.

I wonder how much money Lando will make from his tell-all book when everyone gets locked up.

Some pure commentary gold right here from SC reddit.

Put those lulzbuckets on standby, you're going to need them.

I noticed in the run up to the 'Con they weren't pushing the BDSSE aspect as much as they were the "aren't we a great bunch of friends?" aspect. I had a feeling then it was all going south.
And that's kind of all they are now, a like-minded collection of neckbeards dreaming about the things they things they cannot have. Like a Space-sim, or getting out of the basement, or kissing a girl.
(And yes, I'm generalising. Appologies to the Citizens who have done at least one of those things)

But, the whales are made to feel all sorts of Band-of-Brothers special about it.
And thus does the money flow.

I don't think SC is any sort of scam, I think they genuinely believe they can do what they are setting out to do...
I also think they are morons.
