The Star Citizen Thread v5

A profoundly uninteresting bug. They called the wrong method, so it didn't do what they wanted it to do. Does this really merit a 13-minute video?

Hey, if you're going for filler content, there's no reason to waste it on something that actually warrants all that time — that would just defeat the purpose of serving as filler, after all.

What would Amazon even stand to gain from it? Other than padding out the list of Lumberyard "partners".

LumberYard needs a boost because it’s not widely adopted. But using it to sell AWS is a tough call because contrary to popular belief the AWS costs can be prohibitive – especially for multiplayer games. And when those games stop making enough money to pay for AWS, well, it’s sunset time. So in the case of Star Citizen, I just don’t see how AMZ buying or publishing this game makes sense. It’s a massive financial and PR liability. And if that were to happen, the end result is that those acting like they are in a cult will just end up blaming AMZ for ruining Chris’s ‘vision‘ if they shipped anything less than what he has promised – even as all indications are that he can’t deliver on said promises anyway. With $145m (if you believe it) to date in liability, what exactly would AMZ be buying for them to even recoup that; let alone make any money? All that money is basically pre-orders with very little room for further monetization. Not even if it came to consoles. It makes no sense for them to do it; which is why I find it hard to believe this rumor. But if AMZ is going to do this as a way of marketing LumberYard + AWS for games, it’s one heck of an expensive spend – aside from it being completely nonsensical.

over at Reddit, there seems to be a deal of healthy scepticism about this alleged Amazon publishing deal. https://www.reddit.com/r/starcitizen/comments/5zmyge/i_think_amazon_may_be_taking_over/

Though one redditor seems to have a rather odd idea about CIGs present financial status:

Er, no, they haven't got '$145 mil in the bank'. They've been spending it as they go along...

Maybe it's because they can only figure out how to "smash" the simple bugs.

Maybe we're misunderstanding their use of smashing/smashers, where they actually mean 'great', as in easy to fix?

Or, do they perhaps mean...

Amazon call them "customers"

Customers are people who pay for a service. I'm betting CIG is shelling out quite a bit here...

I guess the fantastical TV show of "we are making a game" has become too hard to mantain or they are simply running out of material to shower the backer with so they need to "stretch" their episodes a little in order to cover the next few months. "Nice" especially when coming from an official representative of a company has all kinds of meanings but it hardly means nice as the average citizen (ups sorry for the pun) understands the word.

I rather noticed how everything he said as a description sounds more like a vague "idea" rather then a nailed down game feature. How can they NOT KNOW exactly AT THIS POINT how a core mechanic will work? I cant help but think that reality really has caught up with the money train now and even the making up of fantasy plans (aka: how to drain our cows of all their milk) falls behind current development.

Same to be honest. The videos were way too heavy on meaningless fluff words and manchilds wetting their pants with excitement rather then hard data. Going through the transcript enabled me to read past all the useless drivel and get the core points often enough realizing there are hardly any and 90% of the time of that episode was filler material rather then content.....makes you think. I ll admit that watching CR or any of his underlings is hiding their failings much better then reading up on the stuff they actually say. It only drives the point home harder about how unwoefully unprepared they come to these shootings and gives me the impression of a wiggling worm whos caught by direct sunlight. I d really LOVE to see CR on air with some "serious" reporters drilling him with questions. Hes already falling apart on the pre-prepared stuff with all the kids-glove questions.

Dude....you have no idea :D When I first stumbled across this thread it was version 4 and rather then jumping in and going from there I decided I had to read up on all the stuff that has been written.....courtesy to all the time sacrificed and well written posts I witnessed....which took me MONTHS of real time in which I neglected a lot of activities. Some of my free days have been entirely spent reading this forum only to catch up. The good thing about it and also glaringly obvious when observed from a distance is that the SC thread only really "explodes" with activity and jumps several pages an hour only when another white knight or troll comes to the party not bringing anything new to the table or regurgitating the exact same crap as the white knight before him 2 weeks back. Those are entertaining times tho because I usually learn a lot about proper posting etiquette at those times. It also makes me realize how there is hardly ANYTHING from CiG in between these episodes that is debatable (face it, if we dont have people defending SC with fantastical claims and make-up stories this thread gets a little "slow").

Which is also the biggest joke really because "these" people come here to make us "shut-up" and only help in creating more drama (and in my case.....strengthen my belief that SC is a failure). Would they simply ignore this thread (or would have ignored DS in the past) it would be a fun lil thread on the sideline without any impact on public attention. By constantly mentioning this thread among others as well as DS in frequent comment sections and reddit threads tho they actively HELP to mantain these presences and make them larger then they are. Its how I learned about Mr.Smart in the first place and also this thread :D

Okay....I cant help myself but think this is TOO EXTREME to believe. Wouldnt we get an official statement (at least from Amazon) if this was true? I have to say yeah it HAS BEEN becoming really silent around the project regarding official statements by CR lately (remember his statement that only HIS word is to be taken as fact, everybody else *cough* Ben L *cough* doesnt know what hes talking aboout) but this is a completely different league. I m rather sitting on the "made-up" fence regarding this post. The good thing is that I dont have to make up my mind right on the spot. I can afford to sit back and watch how things unfold and see if any of this holds any truth.

Which is the strange thing really. CiG has proven already with past actions that they are not beyond stealing ideas from others and shamelessly copying stuff from great franchises and AT THE SAME TIME they are obviously creating stuff from scratch which could ve been looked up in 5 minutes. It doesnt matter if they are a MMO or not (debatable but I m sure one of the SC defenders will jump in soon with a "lolz, its NOT an MMO you moron") they are trying to create a universe based on economy models being used in every large MMO or P2W game out there yet they go through the exact same tripping traps those other companies went through. Why repeating obvious flaws and errors if you could learn from others past actions? I mean it fits with theoir previous track record of creating stuff for the first time when others have done it numerous times before them but hey.....

Oh that was you *chuckles* I noticed the post but didnt look at the name. It was an extreme but (under CiGs description of fidelity) valid example of how the stuff they come up with can backfire easily with people actively looking for a dent in the armor.

This is a rather nice example how CR gets overrun by his own ideas because he simply talks without thinking things through or just proofing that whatever he states is at best a wild idea which has never been discussed or created by people who know what they are doing. Stuff is simply too complex and has so many ways to *U** *P their game and whenever you point out these flaws and risks you are either hated on, dumped DS style or made shut up by directed hate replies.

Oh WOW [woah] It really could be. The next few weeks should tell us more but this definately has my attention now.

Haha yes exactly, too many overly complicated gameplay for the sake of fidelity that are more likely to create boredom and unexpected bugs, glitches, exploits or outright system wide crashes...

And even bigger question, how would they even make the AI to deal with all those mind*? Stuffs like killing npc with crates, blocking jumpoint with something (eventually someone will park a capital ship on a jumpoint entrance)... Etc?

And even bigger concern that I also repeatedly posted there, they don't even have working scanner, no working navigation system, no map system, no docking system, etc...

It's mindblowing when you realize how much of a clusterfook that project actually is.

Heck, here is another real eye opener to all of us...

They always said that the gameplay mechanics in squadron 42 would be the same as in the pu, with that in mind, let's see what we really have in pu today.

1. We have a recently changed flight model that is considered terrible for many, including a vanishing cruise mode that has been there since long ago

2. We have a terrible fps gameplay in star marine

Now seriously, do you expect squadron 42 is going to sell to the general gaming audience with such terrible gameplay? I mean, cod infinite warfare feel like the better game, and we are going to get me andromeda soon, audience will compare them and bash squadron 42 to oblivion.

So a rework is inevitable, and what does that reveal to us regarding the actual completion of squadron 42? A change to flight model and shooter gameplay may require entire rebalancing of the missions and the AI, as well as the cinematics...

Even without gameplay rework, the change already happened with the current state and may as well require that single player campaign rebalance!

Or... *drum rolls*

They actually haven't done anything gameplay related on the squadron 42!!!

What a shocking marvelous revelation that would be???

Lmao, it's looking more and more that DS maybe right, despite his scummy behavior.

To be fair, it's really newbs that hate the flight model, because the new one made dogfighting far more skill-dependent. Cruise mode was a mistake from the beginning, and I'm glad that it's gone... it was horrible. Overall, the new flight model is a very nice improvement. I think we can put it in the "good" col. for Sir Roberts.

Who the heck is 'Sir Roberts'?

There is no Sir Roberts, its weird, please stop saying it. Anyway: yes, the new FM sucks less than the old one. The old one was horrible. The new one is slightly less horrible. Its not about skills, awareness or any of that. Its cool if you like flying spaceships with your mouse though.

Its Star Citizen. When someone somewhere somehow at some time does something, they copy it. DB gets a title? You call CR 'sir'. Its called a cult for a reason.
