If we don't want to go the helicopter route, we can talk about jet packs (in all types). Airships in various shapes and sizes. The X-24A, X-38, M2-F1/F2/F3 and HL10. None of which had wings, but did have lifting bodies...
…and the ship in question has none of those, nor does it need to since it's wholly decoupled from any kind of realism or physics-based simulation.

After all, that was the whole point all along: every last bit of design in SC tells us that this game does not care for those things. If it did, nothing would look the way it does, nor would it be designed by the people it's designed by.

Knock it off Tippis.

Stop falling for obvious derail-bait like this.

Why are we even *discussing* the ships in the game? Has there been some major update that affects any of these ships that CIG have just released?

Is it something *worthy* of four pages of someone showing off ships in the hangar module... which serves virtually no purpose because you can't invite your buddies to go visit it in-game... and then the unnecessary back and forth about how "realistically" the designs of the ships would work regarding their aerodynamics?

No, but that's probably why: since the project isn't producing anything worth-while, and since ship designs were brought up to fill the gap, the discussion naturally lends itself to bringing up the contradictions between stated intent and actual result those designs illustrate.

No hate involved in this image, just alot of disappointment, false claims, promises and a huge amount of hot air the past years. My expectation are already low..but SC is still able to dig under it with every year and more years to come.

If only any of that had been deliberate they might have been able to sell a StarEngine license to a developer remaking Call of Cthulhu DCOTE.

Yeah, why are we being spammed with pictures of something that looks like half a helicopter? Or a JCB? Or a luggage rack? Anyone wanting to look at them can find them on the CIG forum. Along with the ridiculous price, and a load of details about features that will have changed six times before they get out of alpha. If they ever do.

I love this bit:
Selling technology they developed, including... their crowdsourcing system

Selling what? You need some sort of special technology to sell Star Citizen stuff online, because everyone else's bog-standard system doesn't work when the stuff in question doesn't exist yet? Or by 'system', do they mean generating endless hype and not delivering? Because the 'technology' for that has been around since the days of ancient Egypt (if you look carefully at the hieroglyphics in the Great Pyramid of Giza, there is a man selling the elixir of eternal life, payment 10 cartloads of wheat in advance. Any complaints about the non-efficacy of the elixir must be submitted by the original purchaser...)

"Please buy these shiny ships"

"It's a real actual game, honest guv, look at the fidelity"

Honestly it's just a lot of marketing propagander in my eyes, they are always trying to impress with how detailed the graphics are. Anything to keep the money flowing into an obviously broken non-product. Twitch streams of the exact same gameplay repeated over and over, endless advertising of shiny ships, constant attempts to promote graphical design over gameplay design, constantly poor predictions of what will be avalible or new during any year of dev. None of it impresses me anymore and hasn't for well over a year, hundreds of repeated screenshots of space craft that have no function other than to provide repeated screenshots to entice the giving (without conscience) of money to a company yet to produce anything reasembling an actual software product.

I used to enjoy taking the mickey out of CIG for being so horribly bad at anything that wasn't a sale, but it's just too easy. I'm at the point where if CIG suddenly ceased all operations and closed up shop(s), I would think "well, it's a shame but that's been coming for a while, don't wanna see ol yeller suffer for another season".

Is the "crowdfunding" system the thing that takes cash from thousands of PC gamers up-front, removing the need for deadlines, competent overarching design and accountability that would normally be required when working with a publisher or the need to put out a product that sales on it's own merits?

Yes that will be good for the rest of the industry too

Those ships are design to "look cool buy me" and only that. And I must say they do look cool, at least some of them. But to be realistic practical design - nah, at least I dont see it.
I think we've seen enough "ships" by now, six years in. That's just wasting client storage space and increasing the memory load.

What about Nyx? NPCs in the social module? Was it supposed to be "soon" in 2015?

Would they even be able to sell StarEngine? Surely it is still Crytek IP and perhaps CIG's license allows them to modify it for their own use. Would they have any rights at all to sell it on as their own product?

No, they can't resell it because it would violate the CryEngine license which is the baseline for it. That's why Amazon paid a fortune for CE3 and which gave them the rights to release for free without selling it to devs.

Werent they training all their NPC's to be prisoners or somesuch fighting over who gets to join the cafeteria queue? The marketing department got involved somehow, and due to some mistake overhearing Genuine Roberts on one of his business trips overseas "ciao" lines were passed on to the AI and art teams resulting in NPC's not knowing wether they are coming or going. The alien linguistics team considered it a blocker.

Nevermind that it took 2 guys a couple of days to change the logo to Amazon LY, so its no longer under the license CIG originally purchased.

Cargo and people need to get moved from ship to ship, ship to station etc. So that's what the Argo is for. Comes in three flavours. Personal Transport, Cargo and Rescue.

Its a simple, non-combat, ship.

Why are we getting spammed with ship promo sale literature again?

If you want to look like a normal user then don't do it, normal people don't do this - certainly not with the prosaic twist. We are not unaware of the ships in SC, we don't need them selling to us.

Because it's all they've got left of their dreams.
It's what makes the SC world go round. Ships or at least dreamy jpegs of ships.

Desperate times make desperate people.
Is there a forum somewhere that keeps pushing them over here trying to persuade the jaded few to reach deep into their pockets to save a dying game?

Buy an Idris, especially one with fidelitous lulzmoppers on board voiced by certain famous actors.

Aww, have a heart. We have to find our entertainment somewhere, and there is certainty stuff all in the game itself.
