Alone in his never-finished, already decaying pleasure palace, aloof, seldom visited, never photographed, an emperor of new strength continued to direct his failing empire, varyingly attempted to sway as he once did the destinies of a nation that had ceased to listen to him, ceased to trust him
we just figured out star citizen :D

I have argued/put that case before, and you're right! I really miss the radio chatter in Freelancer even if it's sometimes repetitive, because it's done so well. Humorous, fleshing out the mythology, really good voice performances...

I was wondering the other day why E: D wasn't just using those assets - are they legally tied up with DA or Microsoft? If not, they could be just dropped in with hardly effort & really expand the immersion. I have noticed more voices lately, particularly a Texan-ish female voice and a tight-lipped Scotsman. I really enjoy them.

Top Favorites from Freelancer:

"This fool's actually trying to take me on!"

"Any more damage and I'll be sucking space."

"What's that... coolant leak!!!!"

All quests and participating npc's, only pirates for now, are already fully voice acted in the Crusader Universe.

(Also, I too wonder if this is the "Boo Radley" trying to sneak back on here under a different name...)

Potentially off-topic, but I remember seeing the Boo Radleys many years ago. Maybe (some of) their album names are relevant here, as a coded message from Ms. Boo's marketing campaign for Star Citizen.

Ichabod and I - Everything's Alright Forever - Giant Steps - Wake Up! - C'mon Kids - Kingsize

(Chris and I) - (Kickstarter funded) - (2.4 release) - (We've got new ships) - (Refactoring) - (Buy MOAR Ships!)

Something a bit more recent please... Like, from a couple of days ago. Not old vids that are over 6 months out of date.

Gee, it's almost like there is virtually NOTHING to really see or do in Star Citizen's PU, apart from running around/through/up corridors, grabbing a gun and space suit, hoping the ships are available to fly when you order them (or when you do, find them floating off in space above the landing pad), getting in your ship. Hope you don't clip through your ship in transit. Hope you don't die when you exit your ship when you arrive at some cookie cutter outpost/relay station/ship wreck. Hope you see another player around and hope they don't insta-kill you with an invisible gun and not even facing your way... etc etc.

yeah i heard some arbitrary stuff from enemy pilots but that wasn´t even wing commander level.
the freelancer radio chatter wasn´t epic in any shape or form but i always felt like i was on a highway with truckers who are just chatting about things.
you know like...truckers on a real highway do. they don´t need to discuss the laws of quantum physics. just entering a lane and hearing" we´re headed to the colorado system
delivering machinery" and stuff made me feel like i was just joining a universe that would be going on perfectly without me. that´s immersion imho

Like I said it's my theory alone, with no proof whatsoever, the initial game scope is no longer the current scope, that's why you see discrepancy's in the stretch goals between what we have now and what was talked before.

Even if we choose to say CIG has been in development for 5 years while ignoring the fact that they had no up and running studios and staff prior to 2014 you still have them doing 2 games at the same time, so to make it fair you cut the dev years in half and you have 2,5 years of development time for each portion of the game ;)

If they had, as a fact, no up and running studios and staff prior to 2014, where did the Hangar Module released August 29, 2013 come from?

"better late than rushed?" Mate, other games have had entire development completed in the time it took Star Citizen to get to this point. Other games like NMS went from concept to gold status in LESS than the time it took Star to get from concept to what Lando still calls "pre-pre-pre-alpha", which is barely a vertical slice.

That platitude is such a pathetic false dichotomy

but like SC we still don´t know if NMS will actually be fun to play. that´s a point that seems to be lost in all of the SC discussions. everybody is just talking about engines and stuff. the engine doesn´t even matter. the point many people don´t even consider is: will it be fun to play'?

TBH i think NMS release was postponed cause they had a working game but just didn´t know how to make it fun to play. and i´m very sad to say they still don´t know

This is true, but, with respect, it's a different point, imo at least. If NMS is not fun to play, will it be because it was rushed? I have the strong impression it wasn't rushed. Keep in mind also that "pressure to release" does not equate to "rushing".

As a counterexample, consider Daikatana, which was delayed many times. That wasn't "rushed" in the same way Star Citizen isn't being "rushed", and as a bonus it was led by a star game designer... but that again is a separate point.

My point is this false dichotomy of "it's either late or rushed" as an excuse for missing deadlines is unacceptable, and is used as an ad hoc response to anyone pointing out that Chris Roberts was never able to keep his word.

So I have an odd question. With the whole premise of SC and SQ42 being fidelity and immersion, wouldn't having cut scenes with all that motion capture destroy that? Are they planning on giving metal gear solid 4 a run for it's money? I only ask since I see Mark Hamill is still working on Star Citizen...

All that fideliteh is in SQ42, not SC

the difference between SC and NMS is that NMS never promised anything besides seamless landings and exploration on PG planets. from what i´ve seen they achieved it. but i think they postponed it cause they didn´t see the fun in playing this game. like i said before NMS looked just like pressing W for 10 hours on a minecraft server. i hope they got their shiat together and made the game worthwhile. you might call me a hater but i don´t think NMS will be what people (including myself) hoped it would be. it´s kinda like SC. i like to see how you got that shiat working and i dearly hope you can make something good out of it.if you can´t show me why your game is FUN to play or even might be at some point i can´t care less. i hope for NMS and SC to be fun to play but neither of them has shown any evidence. i said defore i don´t want to be the dsmart of NMS but i just feel that it´s going to be boring AS     . still keeping my hopes up

i don´t know why this ain´t the main point of all SC discussions. show me something that I WANT TO PLAY over some other game that´s already there. alpha bugs, ship sales. i want them to show me something that´s so much fun i´d happily wait a year or 2 for. i bought rebel galaxy for a tenner and it was fun. just give me a reason to keep looking forward to SC
E: SC developement has been about everything but gameplay. every game that goes on early access on steam is judged on if it´s fun to play or not(minus the white/black knights)
SC never had to prove if it´s fun or not. tbh i hate almost everything about E:D cause it just feels like a dead universe. the power stuff and whatever didn´t make it better for me.
still i always once or twice a month plug in my x52 and my ps3eye for headtracking and enjoy the hell out of dogfighting in an asteroid field cause it´s         FUN TO PLAY :)
NMS and SC still have to deliver something thast comes close. let´s wait and see

I believe the majority of footage they are capturing is not for traditional cut scenes. There will be some (such as the Bishop speech) but most of the footage is for in game. Instead of being locked into a forced cut scene the footage will be played out in game and you will still be able to move around the environment unhindered. The idea is that this will prevent the loss of immersion.

So we really should discuss the latest AtV - it has a ton of unseen footage in it and it looks great.

GrimHex station - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tpalZlE4FC8&t=15m11s (looks like it is about the same size as ArcCorp)
Bengal Carrier - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tpalZlE4FC8&t=26m08s (the hanger alone can fit an Idris - this thing is massive)

I'm really surprised how far along they are with the Bengal Carrier.

Seen plenty of footage, plenty of footage that is many months old and still not part of the playable pre-pre-alpha. The AtV stuff is just shaking shiny stuff in front of a baby's face, it's a distraction.

It's big enough to fit an Idris!!!!

You can't quite fly it in - but it's pretty close! Let's call it the Bengal Slightly-Too-Small-Shopping-Bag instead.

They still have to work out how to make it fit in memory, and make it render, and make it fly - and then work how to make it work in-game.

In game? You mean this?

You couldn't tell with those graphics.

And as to the Bengal Carrier...It's been 5 years. It was the first thing needed, and they only have how much of it done?
