Has anyone here seen the translation of the Swedish Level article? Some might find it interesting.

Warning, it's very long.

Interesting - some of the background stuff was new to me too.

Except that - with sensible metrics applied - the video game Kickstarter project already failed. Just because a few whales in denial still throw moar good money after bad doesn't make that an "if".

Well if you mean in the sense that they failed to deliver in 2014 then yes - you make a good point.

So you actually didn´t even try flying at all???I personally don´t like to judge things if I didn´t try them for myself....
Personly I don't like critic who judge a non released game. Reviewers likethe pro give a status report as is not a final conclusion also they dont review it each day. But half year in between or after large version change.
Wich could be several months.
Person,y I don like critic who test every day a come to conclusion there is no progress.
I check it out wennthere is progress that could be month or halve a year wich is normal for large producktion.

so it the 4th instalment but the first on that windows version for me.

And I did fly it with sticks.
But fighter gameplay is not my thing have a reclaimer and a connie redeemer
Connie is playable that is wat I as gamer are interrested in.

And yet you make sure to keep us inform how everything is going to be cool and awesome in the future?I don´t know but you may notice that most ppl. myself included giving our opinion on current game build and then some of us making an projection how final game may look like....also many of us saying some positive things about the game but prefer to focus on the burning issues that CIG keep dodging all this years.....And then we have all this affairs + some drama that CIG is keep building around themselfs, you can´t blame ppl. for curiosity in CIG´s"monkey"business,it will be totally immoral to not question company shady decisions especially when that CO. using backers money to build their game.....

Interesting article. We already knew about the Space Door and CR misappropriating backer money for luxurious non-game making items, but now the company is wrapped up in another legal battle.

http://gameranx.com/updates/id/73286/article/the-building-controversy-of-star-citizen/

That is just another thing that is wrong with CR, he is taking the millions to make a game and redirecting it to make his offices. Yeah, I get the mocap studio... to an extent... and good systems to code and test with, but space doors and top end office renovations before even having half a game 4 years later... Mismanagement all over it.

Check out the comments of that article.

Some of those names sure do look familiar... It's almost as if the same four guys troll the internet for mentions of Star Citizen just so they can leap to its defence. And they have the nerve to call Derek Smart obsessed.

I am not surprised at all....as I said "Shady-Traders"will do anything to protect their business...later on shills will follow.......just check as an example this one page and see how much money is in "GREY"ships sales just from this 1 trader https://www.reddit.com/r/Starcitizen_trades/comments/4nwm6r/storenoobys_mall_second_edition_original_concepts/

Personally I think you've got it right and that's the better way of getting details as the in-betweens can be quite ugly, but here we find ourselves in the very strange situation of having the game creators pushing the pre-alpha like it's already a significant amount of the product - to the point of using that as a claim to deny refunds.

So usually yes - you're quite right - here however they're actually asking for people to get involved like this

The 'unfair to criticise until it's finished' argument is also dubious in the context of a developer's website which is asking for hard cash - often large sums of it - now. They are spending significant funds and must expect scrutiny, just like any other business. If the project was being funded in the conventional manner, by a publisher, you can be darned sure than they would be expected to show that they were making good use of said funds - and not with fancy tech demos, but with hard evidence of progress towards a finished commercially-viable project. The lack of any real insight into such things makes critical analysis of what little information they release more important - and makes distinguishing between verifiable fact and hyperbole essential. If such scrutiny makes some 'citizens' uncomfortable, I can only suggest it is because they aren't as confident in the outcome as they would like to appear.

Damn straight, publishers/investors would be nigh rioting at this point.
The thing is, given the position of SC now I highly doubt financial institutions would back it at all. Due to their initial financing approach, they've exhausted the market interest. A released title at this point is not going to attract more revenue, it will simply be an act to satisfy their end of the sales contract.

I haven't looked into it or do I have any interest in same but I can't fathom why this grey market is tolerated by SC unless they are getting their cut out of it. I would have thought that any ship purchased would have been locked to your account otherwise it becomes a free for all for the trading of vapourware.

Though delivery date is not the only metric (despite being surpassed by 200 % now):

  • The entire Kickstarter funds: paid out by Kickstarter misused and gone.*
  • Non-digital backer perks: never delivered.
  • Original concept (Kickstarter project description): gone and will never be delivered.
  • Original developer talent: gone and engages in different endeavors (Descent Underground etc.)

*) They use new income for refunds and let even a different company pay those out, only after threatened legally of course.

That the guy who ripped off Kickstarter backers has established some sort of cult following combined with shady money laundering (the so-called "grey market") doesn't really change the fact, that we still look at an entirely failed Kickstarter crowdfunding project. Most of the facts mentioned above are final.

Wel my guess is Crowed funden market is a very impatient one. As they are not used to large and long production . The problem is the crowed and wrong dev. CR track record is that he goes triple A that his ball game. Also I am a triplA gamer I play exclusly the big titels or the big niche titels. I came in wenn it was 68 mil. So yes I am fully aware it a big production.

No crowed funded little stuff . And no retro gaming that not my thing.
The only crowedfunded games I did invest in are ED and SC. They are big enough for me.
What atrack me in space games are tbe bigger spacecraft. The reason I went for X- series.

SC is at status that it offer some multi crew stuf so this backer got awake.

I found out about SC truogh Elite forums. As I was seeking other games then Xseries and Universal Combat I found this forum and a few others .
So looking out of taking my connie out. If its fun I play it longer if not than become dormant again till the next big delivery. Or other news.

The comments are interesting, as you can see the same type of delusions as with Star Citizen:

All I can say is well done, E: D is a great game even in its current unfinished beta status; I certainly don't regret paying for the Premium beta access. The end of 2014 however is a very ambitious deadline considering that a lot of work is still required (mining, missions, more station types, more ships) but I really wouldn't mind if it slipped to next year.
The commentator imagined something huge and then ended up with a MVP. Great lesson to learn for Star Citizen backers.

The Gamescom Demo wasn't shown at Gamescom premises. It was a showcase in a private party for the backers, not for "Gamescom Judges" lol

Besides it received praises from the gaming media across the world:

So did another overhyped spacegame called NMS...and the entire gaming press jumping on the train with the rest of it. We all know how much worth gaming press is in regards to games with alot of hype.

The reason the ones who agree with you don't post often is the same here as it generally is for every forum with a less than applauding audience to SC, most are people who spend all day 'upvoting' positive posts and 'downvoting' negative ones, regardless of actual content because all they see is the good word being spread and they are totally blinkered to what actually constitutes good progression within a project. Basically, shills love shills.

This is not actually true (at least not entirely). I dont post that often and I have given Orlando rep for posting info I found interesting. I do disagree with most of what he says though. I have also given plenty of rep to those on the other side of the fence (youreself included I believe).

I'd love to see a glimpse into an alternative universe where the amount of money would be swapped between two companies. Who knows, perhaps both games would be better for it? By the way, do you have any sources for the ED figures?

Edit @kilvenny: thanks for the link

FDEV is a publicly traded company. Their figures are released every year in the annual report they have to file with the British Government. They also give quarterly updates as required as well.

Most of the facts mentioned above are final.

The Kickstarter campaign was because their main site went down from the ammount of people trying to pledge. They continued their crowdfunding campaing in the kickstarter site to leverage their business because traditional methods failed (publishers/banks/investors). CIG kickstarter campaign suceeded in launching the game development at the level they needed by first proving investors there was demand for the game and then surpassing its estimated value making them (investors) superfulous.

An honest showcase of game developping being, just like I said, troubled and full of hurdles.

I can't help noting that you didn't really address any of the (completely accurate) points he made. And while SC can certainly be a showcase of how troubles and hurdles arise from not having good management, it's not a very honest one.

What you probably should watch instead is this old thing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zVwg-9WL3dE&list=PLIhLvue17Sd7F6pU2ByRRb0igiI-WKk3D&index=2
