One tiny tiny difference, FD didn't take a gazillion dollars from people, FD released a game (bare bone, but nevertheless released), and FD are using ED as a revenue platform by selling DLC and the customer can buy it or leave it as they please.

ED is an early access game and is in alpha right now - you just bug tested Engineers a while back.

How is this different from SC? One Company is stating they are in Alpha, the other is not.

And yet your first response is that it isn't anyone from RSI based on... what, exactly? A strong feeling? A little voice in your head? A tremendous bias?

Based on requiring evidence and facts with a view to finding out the truth rather than that letter which was posted. The default position is to ignore everything until there's sufficient evidence to say otherwise.

Not to post an "apparent" true letter without even bothering to check the very basics first.

I'll take my way over the other way thanks as it always gives betetr results.

One is broken, the other is not.
One is a con, the other is not.
One will never be released, the other is out.
One is pay2win, the other is not.

One is doomed, the other is not.

Derek Smart has verified that the letter is true.

Some folk should examine their relative evidence thresholds.

"3.0 will save the universe and contain everything" - SO TRUE! SELL ME AN IDRIS!

"This letter was sent by legal" - I think we should wait until forensics have checked it.

1st bold: Gross overstatement. Obviously SC MP code is worse. And there's a lot of other games that to a lot worse still.
Poin in case CQC MP works really well- that means that MP netcode works. The P2P infrastructure is less than stellar (pun!) because not every player has a fast internet connection. Or fast enough.
Poin in case- my MP experience has been really good.

2nd bold: They did work it- they keep on doing it and again without haveing to refacotr it completely. So- let's just say you are spreading just as much hate as you accuse others of doing.

ED netcode is abysmally bad and the excuse "there's other games that do it bad too" is really sad.

SC netcode isn't relevant because it's not a finished and released product like ED claims to be. How on earth did you think to use SC's unfinsihed alpha code as an arguement for propping up the embarrassment of network code FD are using?

How am I spreading hate by using evidence and facts to make responses rather than the massive hyperbole and out right lies being told around here, not to mention personal attacks?

Actually I do when it's not releveant and is an obvious attempt to troll.

I don't speak for everyone, but I've not once had issues with the networking in ED. More than that, I've seen the streams where they discuss their network models and intentions and it is sophisticated and a very workable solution to a very real problem: money.

I don't understand the "win" comment, what is their to win? People are discussing, sharing opinions. That there is a lot of criticism of SC is to be expected. CiG have surrounded themselves in drama, they have claimed to be the saviours of PC gaming, of fidelity and of space games. The product has a lot to live up to, so when it fails people are obviously going to call them out on it.

I feel like a lot of the contributors here take the criticisms too personally, as if they are the developers of the game.

I just trawled through 20 pages of the most poisonous posts I think I've read on these forums to date. That's what I mean about "can't win". There hasn't even been any debating - nothing but vitriol pretty much with the odd post here and there that was actually decent.

Sorry - what 'evidence and facts' ?

What?

Besides the fact that this thread isn't about ED's netcode you've yet to prove it's "abysmally bad".

SC has confirmed their doesn't work which is why they're trying to fix it.

They have a long way to go to get near the 50-100 Chris always talked about and even further to get near his latest fantasy estimate.

Try staying on topic.

I'd love to see Jex's own networking architecture and implementation - go on, show us how the experts do it, please :)

Extra points if you go the HTTPS route!

Yes you're right CIG is stating their "product" is in Alpha, FD is not. It's you who is stating that ED is in alpha/early access. This assertion (if you even believe it yourself) is merely your opinion.

I think the difference is that FD is confident enough that their product stands up on its own merits and is of merchantable quality where as CIG would be laughed out of any room if they tried to claim their lavishly funded efforts were an actual merchantable product as opposed to the in-progress mismanaged mess that it is, hence the alpha/early access fig leaf.

However that is merely my opinion.

Did you ever tried to play SC pre-Alfa 2.5 ?!
1) there is not lot of gamaplay
2) it crashes about once in every hour
3) lot of bugs
4) a lot of ships and game mechanics currently are just on paper compared to Elite

Maybe Elite does not fell for everybody as finished game but its not definitely in pre-Alfa I can give it Beta stage at worst scenario..

No the thread so far as I can make out is making up things about a game that's in an alpha state so why on earth would you think it would be working?

Check the posts on people disappearing or not being able to wing up or seeing/not seeing the same things as other people not mentioning the time the mission boards take to load, dropping into and out of SC. At every point where the game needs to access the netcode it fails and unless you've not read any of the thousands of posts on the forums here, I don't see how you can say there's no evidence.

There's a thread right now talking about it

We have a new Twister contender ladies and gentlemen! More evidence and fact based discussion to follow. Evidence: SC is better than ED, Facts: Because otherwise I'll scream and cry.

ED netcode maybe is not perfect, but its not that bad - people can wingup and play quite successfully, sure there are issues, but those are not that terrible
Also ED main focus is not MP part anyway, its not an MMO anyway that SC claims to be and is marketed as MMO.

Horizons was early access, and you don't need it to play the game, Elite Dangerous is the main game and its released. Huge difference right there. SC is not in any way or form released. And they are talking money for features that are ditched (coop and the modding manual comes to mind).

You are perhaps being a bit inconsistent.

To the point though. I know FD's it's not the perfect solution and one player with a dodgy connection can have an effect on everyone in the instance. However, I find MP in ED works very well. High FPS, smooth movement and this is with 20+ other commanders in my instance as well as dozens of AI. From what I have seen of SC you can't even get that many players in an instance, let alone at a decent FPS and no glitching, and that's without any AI. I just don't see how that makes CIG netcode better than FD netcode.

Is there anywhere that tracks releases and content in them? A while back cr said more pipelines will come online speeding stuff up. It would be good to see that increase.
