Wow, those guys on /r/DS Reddit are really - truly - upset that we're here "saying bad stuff about Star Citizen". And they're even more salty because each time they show up here (and pretty much every game forum), and start doing their thing (insults, targeted attacks etc), they get banned.

Now apparently they're on a mission to "complain" to David, Frontier CS etc. So I emailed him and just gave him the heads up.

Those guys are hilarious. Oh the irony.

They care because we're not allowed to say bad stuff about Star Citizen.

We don't need to say anything. That should be patently obvious by now :D

Buy a Polaris!

Joking aside - what we do say is mostly to demonstrate our irritation and unhappiness with the current state of the project that we backed. Nobody here, I think, really wants to see SC/SQ42 disappear - a lot of us put lots of money into backing the project. It really has potential to be good.

What many of us are continually frustrated by, however, is the utter lack of meaningful development and real progress. That is not the developers fault. It's not even the project managers fault. It is simply the fault of leadership - and nobody needs to look very far for direct and compelling evidence of this.

Why should anybody care?

It's all about free-speech.

They are exercising their right to free-speech by saying Derek should under no circumstances be allowed the right to free-speech. Because free-speech is important or something, and it's definitely not because they all got banned for making personal attacks and now feel dis-empowered and picked on as he isn't banned.

I'm exercising my right to find it mildly amusing and be sarcastic about it on the internet.

It's a good thing Frontier allow the same freedom of discussion here as they do on the many topics concerning their own games. If they were forced to remove posts for being "too negative" about SC that would put a game right up there with creepy cults. That would be a very silly thing indeed, so it's good that things aren't that bad.

I've seen perfectly civil discussion here between die hard fans, cynical observers, Derek smart and the only developer involved with both ED and SC. It's not a hardship to tune out the opinions if they offend.

Trying to instigate censorship makes people look "bad" quite frankly.

That does look like him. What's he playing? Not SC, I'd wager.

Before Arena Commander, the hangar module had basic DK1 support. It needed quite a bit of messing around on the command line to get it to function. There was no "pew pew" though, but the videos teased the devs playing around like this.

Sadly that was the last native support for VR in the Alpha to date.

It can't be SC as he only plays that with a game-pad, I recon he's checking out ED for some more Frank Herbert sandworm style "inspiration" this can only be a good thing for the project.

The next ship sale will be the Anacond-de-lance.

I remember that — I had a friend visiting and trying out my Devkit 1 at the time.

He played Elite Dangerous for 30-40 minutes with no problems — He then tried going around my hangar in the Hangar Module, and in the time it took him to walk from the spawn point and along the side of my Constellation, he got so much nausea he had to immediately take off the Rift.

EDIT - I also had a video from before he visited. We were chilling on Skype while I was messing around with the Devkit 1 on the day support was added.
Video and video description in the spoiler tag;

Oculus Rift 'support' was just added to hangar module
Star Citzen is as of the recording of this video, still in pre-alpha - so this was bound to turn out buggy.

*ADDED 27. FEB 2014* - I should mention that the video is the result of taking off the Oculus Rift for a moment - If I start the game with it on, and never take it off, then it works pretty well. The game does not have a "reset view" button yet.
I also did not manage to get the stereoscopic 3d working in this video.

Ben Lenslock - Famous Developer and Actor - must not have flicked the VR switch for you.

You just need to wait until he does. It'll be ok :D

The early DK1 support had the L\R screens reversed so you had to go into the command line to swap them.

The position of the HOTAS is ridiculous, you need to have it out in front so it matches your virtual hands in the game

Ohhh, salty tears of SC rabid cultists because they can't shut down/talk down/character attack SC criticism? Also I guess FD forums have good search rank in Google :D

But for being serious these guys are usually one phone call/one email/one DDOS attack away from prison. Way they attack anyone critical to SC is astonishing. It has gone for years. When I raised point that planet demo v2 is just a tech demo and not gonna appear in SC Alpha 3.0 - at least there is no strong confirmation, and there's several articles quoting CIG representatives on opposite - my sanity was questioned, I was very carefully searched in internet...Etc. so on and so forth. For me who's has been on web since it's inception really it's meh, but for less regular Internet user it might appear as stalking.

I doubt they bothered to plug it into a PC, they just got members of the team to wear it and make pew-pew noises for one of their videos.

The DK1 had lots of annoying wires. I wouldn't bother having it running for some marketing video.

Drunks of Sol approve!!!!!

Maybe, if we get refreshed enough, we'll buy a Polaris :D

Oh, count on it. :)

I don't think he's playing that, not sure it's anything. If you look how he uses the joystick there's nothing flight like about it - it's more like point-click shooting in an on-rails game might be a generic VR demo

Clearly, you've never seen me docking...
