The Star Citizen Thread v5

Main problem is not with telling your friends about it and letting them clearly know the current state of the game, but with the new recruitment drive for rewards it will encourage people to effectively lie about the game to get those benefits. Then when people join and see the true state of the game, they are going to be horrified and run to the media to let people know what a pile of doo doo it is (in its current state).

As someone else said in that thread, you only get one chance to make a first impression.

Not the first time CIG have given false impressions though. Remember this?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pFSnSuV9jz8

2 million players to meet! Yeah, right.... it made it look there was a fully playable game in there.

And people wonder why we are skeptical.

Wow I had forgotten about that trailer. I really liked the bit where they said Just Got BIGGER

Perhaps Shia LeBouf could do an awesome Just Got BIGGER motivational video for a modest fee?

The recent and desperate recruitment drive can't be taken as anything else than a sign that it's on it's last legs. There can be no other interpretation for a project that so loudly trumpeted it's success in fundraising. I doubt there's any more suckers around to sustain this trainwreck for much longer. Won't be long now.

Can someone please point me to a detailed list showing the differences between what CR stated was in for 3.0 back at Gamescom 2016, and what we have in the latest schedule? If there is such a thing.

I don't know about any side by side comparision, but you can check here https://www.pcinvasion.com/star-citizen-citizencon-2016-report for the original plans (I think) and here https://www.redacted.tv/star-citizen-alpha-3-0-features-target-dates/ from the current Schedule.

From what I can tell the main difference is that instead of releasing the whole system with planets, they are just releasing few moons. Network update also might be delayed.

Will silencing Derek unclog the various pipelines and ensure 3.0 is on time and feature complete ?.
One thing I have learnt over the last couple of years is that Derek is to blame for everything that is wrong with Star Citizen. Everything...including cubical 3 in the male toilets on the 2nd floor at the Foundry 42 office running out of toilet roll.
One thing I don't quite understand is why SC fans always compare what SC will be in the future to what ED is now, while ED fans compare ED now to SC now.
If people are doing comparisons in features, functionality and GFX for something that will be released in 5 years then surely we should be comparing like for like with what ED will have in 5+ years.
I see 0 evidence for what features SC will have if it every gets released. 0. CR talking pub talk when he should keep his mouth clamped shut doesn't count as evidence.

The funding seems to be a bit lackluster at the moment: https://robertsspaceindustries.com/funding-goals

On the other hand, almost half a million apparently on the 22nd.... and really have to wonder where all this money is coming from. 100,000 yesterday, and that's a low.

Where are all these people coming from with money to spend like this? I need to know and go live there!

I reckon it is largely just the same old people buying into things like the Banu stuff that has been heavily promoted recently and coincidentally has a ship sale to go along side it...

Only now? That thought has been on my mind ever since they materialized the reliant which was promoted as 2nd tier starter ship for like $50-70, what kind of bull that was, a starter ship that cost as much as a normal AAA game? That - now an utterly useless ship with deceptive specs and ultimately terrible to play with- ship is more expensive than witcher 3 at release on my steam store, lmao.

I find the whole melting for store credit thing a bit iffy, it means people who wouldn't dream of paying hundreds or even thousands for a ship can wake up one morning and realize they've done exactly that via incremental "investments".

Yes, their marketing is 10 out 10
Game...well maybe about 2 out 10...

Well not yet, however soon even Jenner will join us
Oh don't worry I'm always a grey jedi/poster, I "hate" extremist in general. That's why I said that. And I don't like either attacking one game to defend other, SC should be able to defend himself.
Just pointing to the schedule for people to understand, not trying to convince anybody to play it.
Well there's not much to play for now, isn't it?
ED is as much in alpha as other games, it's just not the official, public state annouced ^^ It' barebones, getting "major" gameplay updates every year.
Nope, sorry, ED is a released game, With its good and bad things, it has a base from which to build and has its game systems working (some better or worse, but working).

But in SC we have some ships to fly... and 3 missions in loop.
But yeah, I know I'm speaking to a wall, lots of old stubborn players in the ED community !
You are the one attacking ED and trying to compare it to SC... and attacking other posters doesn't help you.
Just calling a minor argument-less group "stupid" and boom, an army is triggered, even people I wasn't even talking about :p
Use PMs then, everyone can answer whatever you wanna post in a forum. If you don't like to read other people block them or avoid forums in general.
When I spoke about Elite in SC, multiple times i've been told to take a look in the SC topic on this forum to see the difference between communities.
Not disappointed ! Thanks for the entertainment.
In fact this is the only thread and more or less used by the same people(20-25 users more or less)... and I recall multiple reddits post attacking ED without reason on the sc subreddit.

What amazing world eh...
EDIT: OH ! And even worse, FD is making you pay for every season of content that was supposed to be there from the start.
Don't worry, if some people stop buying ships we may never get SC.

If you wan't to defend SC great, I have no problem with that and I even support you to post here in a civil way, with facts and information. But if you just come to attack this community and leave the SC community in a worse place, avoid it.

There is enough extremists.

And BTW
This Week in Star CitizenApril 24th, 2017

[h=2]
GREETINGS CITIZENS[/h]
Last week was out of this world with the reveal of the Banu and their role in the universe. On top of learning more about the Banu, we revealed their newest spacecraft: the Banu Defender. In last week’s ATV, we shared the spec, design, and took a dive into the Banu lore with Lead Writer Dave Haddock and Senior Writer Will Weissbaum. Learn more about the Banu and their integral part of the Star Citizen universe here.

We’ve also introduced new reward levels to our existing referral program and kicked off a limited time contest to get everyone pumped for Star Citizen Alpha 3.0 and Gamescom. We’ve heard a lot of excellent feedback over the weekend that we are working on further updates; stay tuned!

So what’s going on this week?

Today’s Citizens of the Stars has Jared Huckaby talking with Tirent, co-founder of the Star Citizen Competitive League, a massive Star Marine tournament that was broadcast live on Twitch.tv with over 55 teams that signed up! Then, I sit down with Mark Abent, Senior Gameplay Engineer and host of “Bugsmashers!” for this week’s Quantum Questions. Will Brian Chambers be knocked down from being Quantum Champion? Only one way to find out!
Tuesday is a new Subscribers Town Hall featuring the Banu! Join Jared Huckaby, writers Dave Haddock and William Weissbaum, and ship designer Jonny Jacivious as they take questions from subscribers about the Banu and other alien races found within the Star Citizen universe. Also if you are a Subscriber, this is your last chance to get your question submitted or upvote the ones you want to be asked by visiting the Subscriber’s section on Spectrum here.

On Wednesday, our bi-weekly show “Bugsmashers!” is back! Bug hunter extraordinaire Mark Abent tackles a bug in Single Player Arena Commander, where a player floats indefinitely out of his ship and into the verse if left idle at the start of the match. These episodes give detailed insight into the development process and is a must watch for those interested in the technical aspects of the Star Citizen.

This Thursday on Around the Verse is the Foundry 42 Frankfurt Studio Update! Brian Chambers shows off all the cool tech the team is working on to bring Star Citizen to life. Also included is a feature about our QA teams from around the globe and the never-ending work they do to verify changes, and report new bugs to our development team.

Every new concept sale brings with it our dedicated Questions and Answers post, and last week’s launch of the Banu Defender is no different. There’s a thread open in Spectrum now where you can not only submit your questions for consideration, but upvote on the ones you want us to answer most. Questions will be picked later this week, and a single, super-sized post will go up this Thursday.

Rounding out the end of the week is Happy Hour: Museum. Resident historian Ben Lesnick dives deep into the lore and history of the games that pave the way to Star Citizen.

That’s all from me, see you in the ‘Verse!

Welcome to the thread. It is a little stirred up at the moment because of the debacle with the Hello-Kitty-Look-Alike and the referral competition. I'm sure things will settle back down to normal soon.

It seems as though whenever the Star Citizen management does something stupid this thread gets very active... Have you noticed the length of this thread?

....EDIT: OH ! And even worse, FD is making you pay for every season of content that was supposed to be there from the start.

There were changes made during Elite's Kickstarter but it was made clear what would be available for that. This is normal for Kickstarter, and the option to pull out is always there before the end of the Kickstarter campaign.

Star Citizen has been running something like a Kickstarter campaign since 2012. That is quite extraordinary.

EDIT: OH ! And even worse, FD is making you pay for every season of content that was supposed to be there from the start.

I presume you are fully aware that features such as planet landing, atmosphere entry, first person (space legs) and quite a few others were stated from kickstarter and in several other occasions to be as part of subsequent paid expansions only and not included in the base game. So, no, they were never supposed to be there from the start.

With a few exceptions I think ED did a reasonable job in clearly acknowledging upfront the big ticket items that would be only available in subsequent seasons, whereas SC in principle has basically promised everything in one go and we see it now trickling cancellations or delays in a very non structured and non transparent manner that often gets the community divided and confused about what will be in or out of gold.

And what is hard to understand about that? Did you really expect a fully fleshed out space sim comparable to EVE, (a game that has also been receiving expansions over the last 14 years) but made in just 2 years? If so, the joke is probably on you ;)

The thread on the SC forums has died down significantly in that regard now but it used to be receiving regular merges from general chat were people were dissing Elite left, right and center. The fact that people can speak their minds here is a good thing, it might not be appreciated by some but to criticise the openness because those people are saying things you don't like to hear is akin to advocating for censorship.

EDIT: OH ! And even worse, FD is making you pay for every season of content that was supposed to be there from the start.

Why is paying for expansions suddenly a bad thing? All MMOs have paid-for expansions, this has been the M.O ever since I can remember. Lots of single player games have paid-for expansions, ie The Witcher 3's Hearts of Stone & Blood and Wine. Should they not charge for them? Are developers meant to produce all this additional content for free?

It's alright saying that CIG are producing all of Star Citizen for a one time fee but they are selling access to a huge amount of assets at ridiculous prices (in comparison to the box price) so that they can make that a possibility.
The only reason you are getting everything in Star Citizen for one payment is because other people have paid for it. Somebody has to pay even if it's not you.

To be fair, all the threads on the SC forums have calmed down in the last ~10 days. :D

Are you in an Org? Do you have a group of friends you meet up with in the PTU? Are you interested in SM, I saw in Rolan's latest news bulletin that CiG ran a big tournament recently. There must have been some challenges there in adjudicating with the network lag in an alpha environment. As long as folks had fun I suppose that is all that really matters :)

I also don't think this is a parochial thread. There is room for many good Space Games in our lives. It is not a zero sum game.

We all have 2 months to wait now, for 3.0 to land. For the skeptics, it will be 2 months of watching things being cut or delayed in the schedule; for the supporters it will be 2 months of watching a big step forwards come to fruition. All we can do is wait around and try and be respectful of differing opinions :)

Hi,

I have a Constellation Andromeda (and two basic alt-accounts for friends I got during the sales), but currently not actively playing - I can't stand the lag in the PTU, and after trying VR in Elite it is hard to go back to a 2D monitor.

I will probably be back once they fix the server lag.

To my mind scamming someone involves asking for money whilst making unrealistic/undeliverable promises. If you think that Chris Roberts promises are "too big to be true" whilst he's asking for funding I don't understand what you are objecting to, or is it just the "S" word. What term would you prefer we use ?.

I would add to your definition the condition of never actually trying to deliver such promises, hence I believe that facts have shown it doesn't apply here.

It's not a definition, Scam is a slang term with many different interpretations. You seem to regard Chris Roberts promises as no more reliable than I do, yet object to the "S" word being used.

Off topic but good scammers go to quite some lengths to give the appearance that they are trying to deliver, it's the basis of a lot of scams without it they wouldn't work. The appearance is the most important thing of for example a lead ring that's been painted with gold leaf.
