The Star Citizen Thread v9

This is where the usual "But the Prospector is available in the PTU right now, please dont comment if you dont know anything" post comes into play. Its given nonchalant and means that the Prospector is a flyable ship which can be obtained in the PTU aka its a released asset. You wont have access in the PTU tho if you didnt pay the cash. I mean its possible to get a loaner from any of the people who do own it but you have to beg or ask for one.....the Prospector, THE MAIN CONTENT of 3.2 is behind a paywall

Just for the record; you cant really borrow one in the PU. The actual mining gameplay loop doesnt work in that situation AFAIK.

You can borrow one and go mine. But you can't sell the stuff you mine. So you can continue shooting rocks, but the ship will fill up pretty quick and you have no way empty it.

So a question was asked re what ships are available in the PTU. A couple of people say just the ships you bought. Another says all ships, including "Everyone has access to the Prospector in the current PTU".

So which is it?

Maybe we need a poll, and use statistics to find the right answer? Perhaps everyone with access to the PTU sees different things?

It all seems so typically SC... obfuscation lumped upon misinformation lumped upon random game nonsense. But I thought at least this ED thread would cut to the truth a little faster. :)

Schrödinger's game. Not only is The Vision™ different to everyone, but so is what you get, and it's both a pre-alpha and finished product at the same time.

My cat just laughed at me and walked through a wall. Slightly disturbing, as it's been dead for 4 years.

LOL Crobblers, 6 years later and you're calling it early stage of development....

Well in fairness SC does indeed still seem to be in an early stage of development. Whether that's reasonable, four years after it was supposed to have been delivered, is another matter.

In other news, and a harbinger of what's to come in terms of 'emergent gameplay', Disgruntled Star Citizen players blockade a space station in protest over Arena Commander - "...a group of players were last night blockading the Cry Astro refuel/repair station, shooting at everyone who came near it...". As Yamiks and many others before him have mentioned, should this game go live it's going to be an out and out greifest.

Same as with all things CiG the questions arent in particular difficult or complex but it seems to be impossible to get a clear and explicit answer for anything /sigh

I hope filmmakers are taking notes on those spaghetti men. They are truly unnatural and terrifying.

I do not understand why CIG have taken this stance. They have received 189 million dollars, I am sure they can afford to refund a few thousand. It's also a well known fact that companies with good refund policies also benefit from more custom.

Or they simply don't have the money to refund anymore. Sometimes the obvious answer is correct.

The have received 189 million dollars overall, that doesn't mean they still have that sum, could easily be they're down to e.g 30 million or even less, nobody knows their financial strength for sure.

Why the stopped refunding is possibly:
  1. There were so much refund requests it would make them go broke overnight.
  2. They don't have the money anymore to refund anything.
  3. They've started the phase where they fill their retirement pots and also must keep devlopment running.
  4. Tbh, why should they even refund when people are so dam stupid and still give them that juicy rupees?
    Pick one of your choice.

I guess that unless you can show other sources, that will remain strictly *your* personal and non transferable rumour mill I am afraid.

But he did explain his sources in the very first sentence so what you were afraid off never happened to begin with. How could it ever be his rumour if the first thing he does is tell you the source of it?

But on a more serious approach to the dude who lost his small claims.
IMHO; this could be the one scam that will work and nobody is going to do time for it.
As long as CIG is even providing the smallest amount of updates to their "alpha", you can't get them for wire fraud (18 USC; §1343) and now with a small claims case which can be used as precedent there is no chance to get your money back anymore by a small case claim. You have to go thru arbitration.
With the actual TOS arbitration clause you also can't go the class action route anymore.
Win/Win for CIG, it seems.

Pah - who wants a refund at this point?

We want the games we paid for. Genuine Roberts owes us them. He isn't delivering games.

But - the lulz. Oh, the lulz - long may it continue :D

I only use the PU.

A secondary install to test a pre-alpha of a pre-alpha of a pre-alpha seems pretty redundant to me.

That is fair I guess.

But... can we convince you to install the current PTU just for science? :p I know it is pretty selfish of us to ask, after all we could also try and install the PTU ourselves  but think about the clarity this would bring when it comes to argue with someone who claims the PTU invalidates the need to buy ships at all! :D

The have received 189 million dollars overall...

Not even that is clear or to be assumed, especially when no third party has yet publicly audited the tracker figure.

Are you referring to the first sentence here?:

I see the unmentionable one has written a new tome, wherein he (finally) has a sentence about Chris looking for new investment or selling the project. This has been flapping around the rumourmill for a couple of months. Chris has been looking for investment to complete the project based on it having a value of ludicrous $$$.

Yes. The only thing you might want to complain about in that quote is that it's not really “finally” — the rumour has been around, and DS has discussed it on several occasions, for at least 2–3 years.
