I don't know man. I hear that a lot but I don't think ED needs any favors. At the same time too large a crowd isn't necessarily a good thing. From my experience as an SC backer it means the mainstream crowd and people demanding things like 3PV and less challenging gameplay. Big time doubled edge sword if your a core gamer.
I was thinking more along the lines that every game needs some success of sales to maintain it´s future support (and future expansions). Devs doesn´t work for free ;) And to add - i fully believe that ED will be financial success. Not GTA level millions, but success.

And to add to that - i have also said that i´m very happy with the level of new backers and funding. Not bad, and i´m sure Frontier can´t complain. Looking good.

That is some funny stuff... it is a hornets nest over there.

Well they are understandably concerned ... whenever you put some money into something and there's a question about if you're going to get what you paid for, it's natural to get sensitive about it especially when people from a competing game start commenting on it.

I am not closely invested in SC but from the few things I've read there is an air of slight panic and chaos, maybe like a train going a little too fast on its tracks and there's a big turn coming up. Can it make that turn or will it derail? I could be way off, just an opinion from afar.

I hope it doesn't turn into a huge disaster because it would be a shame for the people who invested time and money into it, it would hurt the crowd funding concept in a very public way, and it would reflect negatively on the space-sim genre. Plus, it would be one less cool game to play!

Advocacy, plain and simple. Once you have spent a lot of money on something, you will fight tooth and nail with anyone that has told you that you that you have made a mistake, or what you have bought is rubbish.

Unfortunately some of the posters can't see the situation for what it is, a mere setback in development, and instead see it as some kind of attack on their current interest. Some will even resort to spreading disinformation because they just cannot accept that something has gone wrong with their current interest. Their 'ego' will not accept this under any circumstances.

The mindset remains the same no matter what this interest is, be it a game, car, movies or whatever.

Personally I don't understand this "us and them" bullcrap....

It's simple. The concept that ED is not SC is not EVE is not X is too complicated for a large number of people to comprehend. Enter a range of arguments (derived from clumsy logical fallacies) stage left.

Yes, I appreciate that, people need to eat and pay bills and they'll want to sell more down the line. I'm simply saying take one look at EDs output and you should be confident they'll be very successful even without the existence of SC, let alone having to tuck into SCs slipstream. Added to which be careful what you wish for if it means the mainstream ever showing up and becoming the majority.

Theres now an interesting debate going on within the general discussion thread on the Star Command RSI site under the thread 'just read this over at ED',
hope you all enjoy now ya'll...
:)

I'm sure you meant well, but is it really wise to poke a hornet's nest that's already angrily buzzing.

I really don't understand the ED vs SC think (I've back both). Don't these people realise they are allowed to like more than one game at a time. It's like the console wars...

Backed both

Yeah ive backed both like lots of other people. The interview between Chris and David said it all when they both discussed their different ideas and plans.
Not exactly two peas in a pod, but it all ends up in one big gorgeous meal right ?

I agree, I backed both and am looking forward to playing both. I like both! But read some of those comments and just wow... Nasty. Was going to put a comment up again (I had posted a few times there under Pndragon26 ) but not even worth it. They just seem annoyed at the thread posted and having the DFM delayed. Can't help but go back and read more though...

Well, people like to be part of something that is "special"... no matter what it is, really. ;)

It's more a case of "My thing" vs "Your thing". I like my thing, and can't understand why you like your thing. Therefore I will attack your thing whenever I have the opportunity. If it looks like there is something wrong with my thing I will deny that this is the case, even though secretly I may know it to be true but I will never accept this openly. Therefore your thing is evil, rubbish and should never be discussed at all, unless it is to badmouth it.

There are some who bought ED, lets call them Imperial and some who bought SC, they would be the Federation and then there are some who bought both, the Alliance :)

Two different games with similarities!

Yes, but it doesn't mean people should be at each others throats... 'tis silly.

The sad thing is it's kinda putting me off playing the PU completely. I don't have the patience to deal with people like that any more.

How about we don't turn this thread into a 'core gamers' vs the mainstream squabble.

The line is too blurred because everyone defines them differently. And it only contributes to dividing the community even further. There's already enough people trying their hardest to drive a wedge between ED backers and SC backers when it doesn't have to be that way.

A few remarks.

There were a few remarks made about ED posting on the SC site, i just thought that the quote had some good valid points which were relevant to the way that SC seems to be going.
Like i said over at SC HQ, maybe its just the way that the Brits and Yanks do things differently.
Personally, i Love my Avenger, but am looking soo much forward to tommorow too.
Win win hopefully...
