Oh so it's a Sim, not a Simulation. Because Sim... means... Simulation? I'm sorry but who ever wrote those words lost me.

It's like this:

People that back Star Citizen in it's original campaign wanted a "Space Sim". A Space Sim is as follows:

Elite
Frontier: Elite 2
Wing Commander
Freespace
Freelancer
i-War
X-Wing

There is also another category of games called "Space Simulators". These are games such as Kerbal Space Program, or a NASA Shuttle Simulator.

They are not the same thing... :D

At the moment it doesn't work for me, it's the flight model - plain and simple.
I didn't like the apparent flight model in the videos I saw of it being shown at Pax East. Some question how you can determine what the flight model was like from just watching a video. My flippant response would have been "Because I have eyes!" It now seems these fears were realised and worse yet it now seems that CR is happy with this and that others don't get it.

Am I reading too much into this or is this the current situation as you guys who are more involved than I see it?

Yep, say what you do like about it, and say what you don't like about it, no need to go much further than that.

There is a deception here, which some have long suspected, and for many is being revealed right now in plain sight. Hence this is in no way a simple case of assessing an alpha based on bugs. Perhaps you don't feel this is the case. Fine, but considering some do, it should not surprise you that the commentary goes beyond 'i hope they fix bug A, or change characteristic B.'

Alternatively perhaps you mean being sold a whooper is no biggie in your book, but again, it should not surprise to discover to others it is.

No you are not reading too much. It is exactly what they did - it is simply disastrous now.

I had a few goes yesterday and honestly it just feels very odd compared to ED. The ship has no sense of weight - you don't get any sense of acceleration or momentum.

You just point and spin - it just feel like you're pointing at a target on a screen (which obviously you are) as opposed to actually following a craft in another craft - which as we know ED has absolutely nailed.

So you are intimating people here want it to be poor?. What utter utter nonsense!.

I paid £50 for SC, not a huge amount compared to many I know, but for me, I dont put £50 into something I WANT to fail.

If SC turns out to be the best space sim out there, I shall be delighted. I believe anyone who isnt a complete prat will feel similar, even if they have not backed it.

Exactly, i said the same thing

I didin' PLEDGE OR BACK SOMETHING because i wanted it to fail... jesus christ these people lol.

i wanted it too be good, but right now it's

here is only one way to sum up arcade commander.

And i'm referring to the casual, arcade mouse click, auto aim, console kid wannabe, action POS. This is not a PC game, in the spirit of what a pc game is, that we were promised a return to. so no, "it's alpha" doesn't cut it. It's the direction and style this points to, can't wait to see the pew pew Halo clone FPS module now.

Crock a crap.

Just installed AC last night and just played it a bit this morning
First reaction is its god awful on my X52 pro :S

Not bashing SC but it seems I made the right decision in pumping most of my cash into ED

I'm not even bothering to get into the controller thing in depth - but yes using X52 you end up just flailing around wildly!

Can someone explain me why roll is so nerfed in AC? Did they decide to invert ED's roll/yaw control scheme?

Yes, I'd also like to know the rationale behind it. I can understand having a strong yaw since a lot of people seem to actually want that, but why have such a weak roll? Maybe nobody in the dev team really used it, and it's more an overlook than a design decision?

Also, could anyone having access to the 300i and/or the hornet compare their flight model to the aurora? Maybe some of the jerkiness and weird thruster sensitivity is to blame on a lo-fi ship (or its mini-bus shape)?

This was what put me off right from day 1 of seeing a demo. (at least in 3rd person view) Maybe 1st person is better?

It's much better in 1st in my opinion - the problem with those demos they did was they hopped around too much from 1st to 3rd - as a demo it was very poorly executed - later they did some dedicated 1st only and 3rd only - but I think they did themselves a lot of damage with the POV hopping which looks even more ludicrous when watched rather than played.

I tried the hiding behind the asteroid thing and peeking over - which from the way I tried it at least seemed nerfed somewhat.

If I were CR I'd have posters up all around the office simply saying;

"It's the flight model, stupid!"

(no offence intended to Chris and the devs who have obviously worked their nuts off on this).

I understand the feeling of being hoodwinked into thinking AC was going to be something other than it is. I also understand that people need to voice that feeling.
I try to stay as positive as possible, and I am willing to give CIG a chance to make changes in the direction that I would personally like to see. If that does not happen, then I will eventually lose patience and probably rant a bit more :D

Fair enough.

The orange arrow abstracts the situational awareness that TrackIR users would have if CIG weren't above adding fundamental head tracking support from the onset.

The arrows are a good HUD feature regardless. It's what I would expect from a functional HUD.

They aren't above TrackIR support. There are a lot of things not finished yet. This coming from a TrackIR user myself.

The weird ratcheted movement of the in-game character hand on the controls adds even more to the feeling that this should have been delayed even further perhaps.

I'm sorry, but that is not a reason to delay an alpha. It's almost in the same category as bugs that are expected. It's just a polish issue, which expected to get better as the game goes on. And everyone agrees that there's a lot of work to be done. No one, including the developers, is saying otherwise.

I have the feeling though, that if trackir was implemented in AC, gameplay would change from - press t, move mouse, click both buttons

to - press t, click both mouse buttons.

You could go even further with voice attack and trackir,
Just look at your target and say "I win!"
