The Type-8

Hi All :)
I've been 'away' for the last several days so I had a bit of catching up to do as regards the livestream and info. on the type 8 (watched it yesterday afternoon / evening).
Controversial question (I'm aware of but it's one of a few thoughts I have). Is the type 8 going to be released into the game with the same kind of introduction as the Python Mk2 in as much there will be an 'Early Access' version as well as a later released 'free' version I wonder?
I didn't pick up on any statements that might have been in the livestream regarding this, though I may have missed any indications of what release particulars there might have been.

Jack :)
I haven't seen any confirmation either way, but I'm personally assuming that the Python Mk.II release is the template that'll be followed for future ships until stated otherwise.

Hi :)

...Not much of the ship other than that cockpit seems to be based on the T-7 though.

I agree, though that's one ship I never bothered with obtaining in the game (T7), not quite sure why......Anyway, the type 8 appeals to me as regards it's design, I consider it personally as even more of a 'new' ship than the Python Mk2. graphic wise, so I'm inclined to feel I might get this one when it's released.
I haven't 'bought' a P2. at the moment as the style of game I'm playing at present is out exploring / mining / bio collection etc. so I can't see the need of a P2. I mean, that might change in the future depending on change of gameplay. 🤷‍♂️

It's hard to get a sense of scale, but given how big the T9/T10 cockpit is, this could easily be a Large ship.
It was explicitly stated on the livestream that T8 will be a medium ship. Most medium ships are around 70 to 80 meters long, Python is 87 meters and Clipper, that could fit onto the medium pad if it didn't have the "wings", is 106 meters. You can have 70 meters long main hull and 35 meters of prongs in front of it, the ship would fit on a medium pad, and still have as much cargo space in the boxy main hull than you can fit into a T7. Consider that T7 has to fit all the machinery into the 80-meter box, T8 has most non-cargo stuff (engines, hardpoints) on outriggers.

Hi :)

Do we know of any hints (from Frontier generally) what specifications the T8 has in the way of internal modules, core, hardpoints, optional slots etc.?:)
I am supposing though it's still all a 'work in progress' currently.

Ah, I think it probably will be this kind of release as well. ;)
The second question / speculation is, what ARX price will it be for the early release of the T8, and what upgraded modules (and unique paintjobs) will come with the 'Stellar' version! :D...:devilish:...

Not in the slightest🙂 But speculation is 4 hardpoints of unknown sizes, 6 utility slots, cargo capacity comparable to Python MKI/T7. But that's just conjectures and "educated quesses".

No.

Yes, that phrase was used a lot.

Utility vehicle Yellow or delivery truck Brown, or maybe one of the Chris Foss inspired schemes.

Thanks for the info about it being definitely Medium. Given its irregular shape, Frontier could give it a useful niche by ensuring that it has more (but smaller) modules than most Medium ships: hopefully at least as many as the Python? That would give plenty of scope for outfitting.

I will use it as my new search and rescue or mining vessel. This will be great.

So now we have a new fighter and an upcoming transport vessel… what will be the new explorer vessel? 😄

Erm... but will it be the Type-8 a new transport vessel? Let's not forget the new ships are supposed to be variants of old ships / lineages, but with new destinations / scopes

I mean, Python Mk2 is not a new multirole, it's a combat vessel (different than the source material)
Maybe Type-8 will also be different from the source material, and so maybe it will not be a transport vessel but a.... errn... an exploration vessel?

Or that nondescript grey-beige that quarry vehicles all wind up as:

Surprisingly, I'm looking forward to this ship even more than the Python MK2 (which I love). It looks cool and they've already confirmed that it can land on a medium pad. Now it just needs to be able to carry more cargo than a Python and we may have a fun new freighter to use.

I don't think it should have an SLF bay. We already have the Keelback and Krait MKII for that. However, if it does have that too, I won't complain.

Regardless, I really like how it looks!

I'm cussing FD quite vehemently, the T8 is not the flying brick I expected, but instead a quirky and very tempting design.
If the following 2 ships are as "non-vanilla" as the previous 2, I can see most of my fleet being remaindered in favour of the "new 4"! I'll keep the 6 Couriers, 2 Vultures and 3 Viper IV, of course...

The sad puppy part of me wants 3 & 4 to be the Cobra V (Or Asp Ex Mk II) and a large warship... All SCO capable, naturally!

It's a dilemma. Unless the T8 beats the Python on some important measure (cargo capacity, number/size of hardpoints, internal slots...) there will never be any reason for anyone to buy one. It was a close thing, but the Krait II just made it.
No dilemma here, my P1 is kitted out for mining, just in case, but never makes it out of the FC otherwise.
The T8 is the difference between a delivery van and a lowrider classic...

Actually the Krait didn't, which is why it spends most of the time in the back of the hangar.
It needs to be closer to the Python than the Krait in terms of tonnage to be viable.
