The unavoidable poll: PvP vs PvE!

What is more important for you: PvE or PvP?

Ultimately, such a study would be of little value. It'd just be an ego contest and the only thing up for grabs being self-validation. People can imagine that there are hundreds of thousands of invisible PvPers secretly seal-clubbing it up in open, but the simple logistics of the game world dictate that PvP is a rare occurrence outside of a few systems where PvPers congregate either to thump each other's chests or gang up on helpless PvE players and traders. It's so incredibly pointless that I can't imagine there are more people who consider PvP the 'meat' of the game for them as opposed to PvE.

Ah, is that's why PvP League exists...

I never knew they congregate to seal club, that's news to me.

I am sure the better nature and positive side of the various posters will come to the fore, and we'll have a perfectly reasoned and calm debate.

Please transplant some optimism, I am in severe shortage.

In game like ED, my primary choice is PvE. I don't see much reasons, nor do I have strong motivation, to get involved in PvP activities more than I do (which is quite rare).

If they introduce clans and clan wars, as well as base building etc, I will certainly reconsider my stance.

I am just hoping that if I say it enough it will come true. Miracles may happen.

As an aside, those of you who enjoy PvP the PvP league run by OogieBoogie and friends is brilliant. PvP isn't my bag, but they are great to watch, well organised and a good challenge for all who take part.

I think we can all agree that this forum has more PvE players than PvP players.

I'm pretty certain that the majority of gamers play offline/solo/pve in almost all games. I would imagine Co-op is next, combative PvP in games comes dead last. (I'm not counting the nonsense handheld crap).

If you only knew....

And if I am to speculate, when you see certain names in a thread or start a thread, you have the same facepaw expression.

I firmly believe that human cleverness lies in one's ability to avoid responsibility at all cost :D

Sure, but the relevance to Elite?

"I'm certain a lot of OPWvW games have the majority of their players exposed to combative PvP."

I'm glad to see you accepted PvPers congregate for chest-thumping purposes. Acceptance is the first step on the road to recovery.

This debate IS going places after all!

(and flying around in wings of four tooled-up PvP rail-de-lances and interdicting lone Pythons, Anacondas, etc. is seal clubbing and the majority of PvP that the organized PvP groups bring to PvE players. I don't know how this is debatable)

That's true. Even in highly competitive games focused on conflicts among players, such as EVE, majority of players stay in high sec systems and rarely get involved in PvP - let alone 0.0 corp wars.

This forum user-base is predominantly PvE, with discussions revolving around that and generally lesser-PvP minded. Without even looking at the results - i'm going to assume that's already being reflected on this poll.

...but why not both as an option? [wink]

If you only knew....

Haha, sorry if it's really causing so much trouble. I was genuinely thinking this might turn out a little different and more civil if I asked this question without giving my own opinion. Granted, I did write "it's clobbering time" in the OP, but that was mainly because I finally wanted to use this phrase somewhere :D

Please, dear mods, feel free to close the thread whenever you want to. It's not worth causing you guys any more problems.

Well the majority of activities in the game are PVE so naturally there will be more of a PVE focus. Obviously out of the major professions in the game (Trade/Combat/Exploration) it's only combat that has any PVP content at all.+ It's virtually impossible to get combat elite fighting just cmdrs. Even die hard PVP combat pilots gain most of their credits and rank by PVE activities.

Obviously which you prefer is entirely subjective, for me it's PVE as combat isn't my focus.

I don't know if I should feel happy that you are supporting my assertion or sad that there aren't much PvPers on the forum.

The ambivalence intensifies!

Because that doesn't polarize viewpoints :D

Don't forget, credits are all that matter in ED, it's the holy scale of progression in a sandbox game, the only indicator of meaningful activity that will be recognized by the game and players!

Hi Brett, I tried to explain why I didn't include a "both" option a few posts above:

Well, I didn't ask for what players want to play, but for a priority among the listed playstyles - that's the reason I didn't include the "both" option, because that would be an answer to a different question.
