The unavoidable poll: PvP vs PvE!

What is more important for you: PvE or PvP?

  • PvE

    Votes: 609 83.3%
  • PvP

    Votes: 122 16.7%

  • Total voters
    731
  • Poll closed .
This forum user-base is predominantly PvE, with discussions revolving around that and generally lesser-PvP minded. Without even looking at the results - i'm going to assume that's already being reflected on this poll.

...but why not both as an option? [wink]

I think a PvP on/off toggle would work best. This way, the playerbase wouldn't have to be split.

You mean like this?

A valiant attempt that works in other MMOs but would instantly destroy the player-pirate aspect of the game (whether you agree with it or not, it is a valid profession).

Isn't this already the case with Private Groups & Solo mode? With a toggle, "Open" would have more players, making the universe feel more alive (even if it's just additional PvE players).

Haha, sorry if it's really causing so much trouble. I was genuinely thinking this might turn out a little different and more civil if I asked this question without giving my own opinion.

Well, it's like polling the general public about their religious beliefs or political standpoints, they either have no idea what they're talking about, or they rip each other to shreds.

Humans are designed for conflict, what can I say.

I don't know if I should feel happy that you are supporting my assertion or sad that there aren't much PvPers on the forum.

The ambivalence intensifies!

To be honest, the forums here are quite a melding pot. According to some moderators, it's hell on earth when things break out. ;)

A lot of the PvP population here either: doesn't post and lurks, posts and gets glomped by a bunch of PvE based posts, posts threads that are knowingly going to get a rise out of people, or is just PvE vs PvP / PvP vs PvE jabbing.

A little fuel never hurt a small fire. ;)

We are prepared....

Depends on where you look in the forum. I think that forum is absolutely pro-PVP because i just ignore everything about PVE.

Very keen observation, I am certain you have the foresight of Tocqueville who sees the same tendency in a community that will lead to despotism and majority tyranny and prevent it from happening.

Kill that server with your F5 keys today!

Ahem ahem, little fuel... emphasis on the "little."

Well, that's a fair point.

I suppose the aim should be to get as many people in to open as possible (to make the universe feel alive, as you rightly say) - but also to allow people's personal choices and playstyles to co-exist alongside everyone elses'.

That is that difficult part :)

Is the answer to "prove" that one play style was in some way more important than another play style?

Why can't we all play together, think of the poor little Sidewinders ;)

From my point of view it's not a question about which is more important, it's about actually listening to other peoples views and not just belittling them because you don't agree with them. Play the game the way you want but have a little bit of respect for folk that want to play in a different way.

I think you're missing the point of co-operative play so I'll give you a clue it's with other players not against AI. It's an entirely different mind set and one you can not, or will not, understand.

Meh, I try to listen to reasonable PvE people and reasonable PvP people and ignore no one since I would hate an echo-chamber. But more power to you, you're probably using the forum better than most.

Oh dear it's casual Tuesday with employee/volunteer supplied gasoline to burn down the forum!

If that mentality can somehow be proliferate instantaneously, we'll achieve world peace. Kant can finally rest in peace in his grave instead of tossing around like crazy.

I know there are PvPers who legitimately engage each other and people outside their gated community without looking for an easy win. Mostly what you hear about is the seal-clubbing crews vandalizing T-9s for     s and giggles. Scum rises to the top after all.

By the way I hope you know I was just 'poking the bear' in the spirit of the thread. It's too often that one side of the PvP/PvE divide simply doesn't respect the other.
