The Unexplorable Witch Head Nebula (And Area Beyond)

In answer to the question, my conda's jump range at the moment is rather.... lacking. 17.5ly. I hadn't known about the Great Wall of COL, so I didn't think there would be an issue if I came out here.
I managed to get around the whole nebula chain shortly after they came in with around 22 LY range. I only had to use range boosts once - when getting out from below Barnard's Loop into Col 69 to carry on heading outwards there's a gap that's a little bit bigger than that if you look for it. The way in, it was mostly just a matter of going down far enough that Col 70 didn't interfere.

We certainly had some ships on the Crab Nebula Expedition with ranges in the 17.5 LY sort of area, and they had to take a very long way round - they could still get into Barnard's Loop, but getting past it required about a 1000 LY detour back towards the bubble and then out round the east side of it. We didn't go to Witch Head, though.

The easiest jump I can find goes from SYNUEFE DH-T D4-10 directly over a very slim gap of COL 70 into WITCH HEAD SECTOR HR-W D1-12
The distance is around 21.6 light years, so within the reach of just about any ship.

I chose my words carefully. ;) I gather the OP doesn't have jumponium stocks or an SRV to hand either...

That distance was just from me dropping down next to Witch Head and jumping across at what looked like the shortest point - we could perhaps run a search of "systems within SYNUEFE" versus "systems within WITCH HEAD" and see what the shortest distance between them is.

Hey buddy don’t know if this will help you or not but I was just able to get into the WHN sector with my dolphin. I only have a jump range of 25.74 LY. I went to SYNUEFE KU-K C 10-2 then jumped to WITCH HEAD HR-W D1-12. It got me in and I may work for you in punching through that wall. Best of luck and keep flying.

Necromancy!

Old thread - but yeah you can go directly to Witches Head, from Sol, if you aim for WITCH HEAD HR-W D1-D2. You can do it even with sub-20ly range. Depending on where you are, the map plotter might not pick the route up, so just look for the nearest SYNUEFE system and jump over from there. It's like a little corridor through COL-70.

Or if for some mad reason you want to go the long way around in your fully armed Vette with only 20ly range :) , you can go: T TAURI, OOCHORRS ZH-Y B47-0, HD37687, SHENVE . Quite scenic and you can extend to have a closer look at some of the cool nebulae out there - Barnards Loop, Running Man, Horsehead and so on.

Guy I'm pretty sure that OP would have gotten there by now, even if he left in the starter sidewinder.
