The White-knight Paradox: The fear of consequences.

While Elite has a pretty steep learning curve, there are plenty of people willing to help others get over the hump so to speak. I personally have offer in game mentorship to those who ask for help.

Heh yeah that could happen, or there's an equal if not greater chance that they will be personally attacked. RNG man, can't get away from it.

That said, these forums are better than many others I've seen in gaming - there is a greater amount of intellectual and reasonable conversation than what you'd find in other games. Still, players can get burnt here.

As I've said. It depends on how you phrase it.

I plainly asked, "Can I get some help on how to get better at pirate gameplay?" Sure there were the expect "get gud" jokers but there were far fewer then in these "ELITE SUCKS BCUZ I CAN'T PIRATE!!!" posts.

Try it. You'd be surprised how fewer personal attacks there are when you don't come across as hostile in your OP. There are always going to be jokers but they're far easier to spot when you're not CAPSLOCK IS CRUZE CONTROL FOR COOL 'ing.

Also it's understood that you can tell how insane someone is by how many exclamation points they use.

Thinking in block caps isn't normal, unless you are in a comic book.

They did say that tho. It'd ruin the game to have third person. Quite a bit. I mean, thinking in caps seems an odd thing to say. Pretty sure it's just shouting? caps-lock is cruise control for the cool [citation needed]. But I am far from an expert in such matters.

Just a dude who sees people pointing out typographical inaccuracies in commentary. We've got a lot of that here. ;)

Sure. At times it doesn't matter though. You can be as polite as a handshake at an old-boys club and still be persecuted for syntax, or having any emotion at all, in relation to a game that might have consumed several hundred (or into the thousands) of hours.

But I digress. Try not to become the thing you judge. I struggle with that, at times, myself.

Meh. Some people love the game and are passionate about it, some people just like it a lot but have issues with it, and others hate the game yet still play it anyway. People are individuals with unique ideas and opinions. Who knew.

Yep, as the saying goes... it's all about opinions and buttholes.

We're actually quite lucky here that the mods and the fdev team relatively speaking allow the community to be quite open and free with discussions on here.

Try some of these discussions on the EVE forum, they'll last 20 seconds, before being locked to some forum rule #8642. Anything not compliance to propaganda is binned.

Sometimes at work (ok most times [cool]) I sit at my desk, and have the ED forum on screen 3, it's a great place to enjoy a coffee, and to be perfectly honest I really appreciate the sense of community. Regardless if someone is having a rant off, or some whistle blower is being all 'teachers pet' and giving away all the latest treasure chests to the nerf squad... The place is full of awesome folks that for the most part, add value to the game even if indirectly doing so without realising. Any feedback is feedback. Any rant is feedback. The moment people stop caring, and stop posting is the point at which people stop caring about ED, and that, that is fatal.

So, since things are vibrantly healthy, I'll make an Arabica toast!

Cheers all

Oh yes, there are a few candidates here that do that regularly by replying: "XY never happened to me, it is your fault [for some reason]."

When I wrote 'it doesn't happen to me' I usually post a video to prove it. I never say it is your fault, but I make a point, specially those posts so constructive like 'this is impossible', 'HGE never spawns', etc.

My post wasn't directed at you actually - interesting. ;) I had a topic about ramming NPCs (not only at star ports) in mind, where also a video as proof was shown on page 2 or so. Yet white knights kept attacking people, who complained about the AI.

Same goes for the Project Cars forums. You are being white-knighted by the mods and some users within minutes, even if there is only a hint of critique at the game or the devs.

I really, really hate the term white knight. Its too binary and compartmentalised. As has been stated nobody is 100% happy with the game, but to label somebody a white knight just because they quote something FD has stated is entirely undefendable.

I should be shocked, but this is the internet.

Nah, I didn't take it personal, was just commenting that some answers are at the same level as the questions ;)

AI pathing has an issue, and the ramming thing is just.. unbearable. There is no discussion here :D

Nope. Some people like the game. It has issues, like every game ever. But Dangerous Discussion is winge central. And whilst here and there, there are good points and legitimate concerns, a lot of it is just entitled garbage and personal opinion.

If you challenge that, the common response to that is to shout 'white knight'.

Watch.

White Night! White Night!!! :D

You just said that because you are a white rose.
